We have 2 or 3 people killed on our roads each week here on average. We have 60%-82% of motorists breaking speed limits depending on which year of the RSA Speed Survey you look at. We are 2nd worst in Europe for checking social media while driving in the Aviva pan-European survey.

    We're pretty crap really.

And that's not even mentioning the maliciousness of the slow drivers who try to stop others that want to go quicker than them. :D

I used to drive a lot in Ireland, mostly in the Munster area.
    Back in Germany now.
What I find a lot in Ireland is people blocking the "fasht" lane on motorways and dual carriageways, incorrect lane usage on roundabouts, deliberately using the wrong lane to cut in front of traffic, people blocking multiple lanes when they don't know which one to use and dumping the car any old where cause they'll only be a minute.
But what does stand out are some of the most belligerent and passive aggressive slow drivers. Usually wait for you to come at 100 km/h only to pull out 10 metres ahead of you, drive at 60 km/h, one wheel on the center line and when you do overtake them, they'll follow you several km beeping and flashing because you somehow questioned their manliness by overtaking them.

    (Ok, exaggerated a bit :))

Try your big grin on the families of the eight (iirc) people killed on the road after the past week or so - see how funny they find it.

My grin is at the slow drivers but keep up the drama queen work.

The one I find weird is this:

You're driving along in cruise control on a motorway at 120km/h.
Car overtakes you and pulls in on front of you and drops to about 110 or even less.
You overtake again and put clear distance between and them and lock into cruise at 120.
    The car does it again!

    This repeats several times.

Most people are actually very calm rational drivers until they see another car in front of them and everything changes.
It's the same as the people who drive will below the speed limit but accelerate when you go to overtake them.

often the case. Often I'm quite happily doing the limit on CC when the guy in front slows or evens brakes for no apparent reason and then a couple of seconds later they're off, over the limit and leaving me behind, only to rinse and repeat....

Bad driving on motorways (including improper lane usage) is a whole other topic.

I have sympathy for the lady subject of this thread but the only options for anyone who has to drive slowly - for whatever reason - are a sign to warn other motorists and as much courtesy as possible to let people pass.

As far as things stand driving excessively slow is just as bad as driving too fast, its hazardous and others do not want to be caught behind then because they dont know what they're going to do and its extra stress having to anticipate them. Even worse when they hog the road and dont move to allow people to pass them out.

Which is why I pointed out the two options in the post before yours.

were it a JCB on the move an orange beacon would be necessary, maybe this Lady should get one as an indication to other drivers that there is a good reason for slow driving . Not exactly fitting the circumstances perhaps but maybe a "patient transfer" sign would help.

Some people are incapable of fairly consistent speeds. Take off the CC, slow down , reset the CC to that lower speed or you put the boot down, overtake at a "much" higher speed briefly and leave them behind you.

Also some people do not like been overtaken as you will also get people who will speed up when you try to pass them. I am not even talking very slow. Like the example in the message you quoted.

Do you need someone to explain the connection between fast driving and death rates?

Yes please because it's not the big factor you're going to claim it is...

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I saw one statistic that it's (inappropriate speed) a factor in 33%

But I assume you have another figure you are waiting to reveal...

I've had it happen to me on a few occasions.
Car traveling at 60 in a 100 zone. I've waited for a good opportunity to overtake, suddenly the car moves out to block me and after I managed to get by, suddenly they were well able to travel at 100, whilst beeping and flashing and following me for a few km and waving their arms around.

    Slow drivers suck!

Doesn't matter what the reason is, in vast majority of cases they are just complete and utter idiots (unless it's that 1% of some medical issues). And they annoy a lot of people around them with this. If you're not sure where you're going because you don't know the place, pull over and let others go.

Sometimes it's a combination of not knowing the place and being shi**y drivers, these combinations are lethal. Citroen Cactus with a rental sticker in a city, makes my blood boil just when I see them. You can't drive and you have no idea where you're going. Do everyone a favour and drive at 7am on Saturday please, not in the afternoon rush hour.

I'm doing 100 and see a car in the distance pulling in front of me. Ok, so I brake and I expect her to speed up to a 100. No, stupid woman decides to go 70 for some weird reason. I overtake her and see the convoy she created and the car behind her sticking out waiting for her to speed up.

    Too many dopes out there.

After you over took going a third faster did you slow down to watch or something?

Up to that point you were doing 100. So the queue behind was probably behind you waiting for you to speed up to 120. How else was it behind her after you overtook. Unless you stayed watching her for a few minutes.

What wrecks my head is when I approach a car crawling along at 50 in an 80, and I overtake them, they start flashing and beeping like I'm some kind of mad man.

Even farmers, who can't help but drive in slow motion due to their machinery, will pull in and let cars go by.

I dunno how many times I've seen an articulated truck get tailgated by some asshole that sits right behind them, then when the truck driver is actually considerate enough to pull into the hard shoulder, the moron that was up their ass pulls back and maintains their speed... Like what the fcuk are you doing?!

    I despise slow drivers. :o
