Brunch in Salt went for the 'Starving' which was nice but wish I'd gone with the old reliable 'Kiwi Brunch' which I order every time and went against for some variety. Went to Kinsale with a buddy then for the CL final & ended up popping down to the Black Pig after a few pints for a Charcuterie board, cheese board & some oysters between us which was really nice, great vibe in there really enjoyed it

have heard great reports about The Black Pig - mad to try it

I called in to Winthrop Arcade for lunch today too. €11 for sandwich and a latte. It was nice but I thought it was a bit on the steep side. It would be more of a Friday treat than a regular thing. The lads in there were very friendly.

Is the same menu in the new Joe Bros as the Gilabbey St one? Meaning to try it for a while now.

Anyone know what brand of coffee they serve?

    Badger and Dodo.

I had a snack/breakfast and a coffee in the Gilabbey St venue and was very happy.

Am I the only one who is getting totally peed off with restaurants fake advertising? I am well used the the "Thai Fishcakes" bull, there are no potatoes in a real Thai Fishcake, a bit of coriander and sweet chilli do not make an Irish potato farl with 10% whitefish into a Tod Mun Pla, so stop lying and have a bit of pride in what you can do.
I got caught badly tonight, stupidly believing that "Tempura Fillets of Haddock" was actually going to be lovely light and dry Tempura and not the grease oozing ****e that I got, Jackie Lennox would have done 10 time better for a third of the cost and my indigestion tablets would be covered in my change.
We have some great food in this country and there are some fabulous imports, but please, restaurateurs, stop bull****ting us.

Might be alone on this, but I actually couldn't give a fucck as long as it's good quality and tastes good. Purism is a lie and so incredibly tedious when it comes to food. Like of course it's not going to be exactly the same here as in Thailand?

With you on the greasy stuff though. Ugh.

But surely having generally recognised terms for dishes just makes sense to avoid confusion?

If restaurants can just free-form at will, where does it stop?
Oh, you expected a t bone steak to be beef? Ours is pork, sorry.

First ever trip to Jacobs on the Mall on Saturday. Had a 100e voucher.

Not sure what I was expecting, but thought it might be white linen and silver service but it was far more casual than that. It was actually packed and the room is very bright and the atmosphere a lot more casual.

We ate up on the mezzanine level which was a bit quieter and less hectic. Overall, I thought the food was good even if the menu was fairly standard stuff - my wife had surf and turf and it was very good.

Happy enough with the food but it was very expensive for what we got and not sure the price was reflected in the hectic atmosphere in the place - the waiter we had was very good but they were run off their feet.

Found was great the one and only time I was there but I could barely enjoy the service was so bad. 1 hour and 15 mins between starter and main and not even a sorry.

Went to bar pigalle, on barracks Street yesterday evening, really, really good..
We had 4 starters and a portion of chips between 2, came in at 45 euro including a pint and a glass of wine...
Fried courgette flowers stuffed with with ricotta and lemon.
    Monkfish tempura, with saffron Mayo
Smoked duck pancakes with pineapple kimchi
And mussels (slightly less done than I like but In a lovely cream sauce..)
    Service was very good too..
(I feel like I've been on a roll eating out lately..)

Had to go to Cork to pick up a Bike (Smyths) for the Sons birthday, so decided that we can have a quick (n cheap) meal in Crazy Kebab and drive home. Wifey wasn't happy to go to the 'chipper' so ended up at Bunsen. Really good service I must say - pre-empted us twice on something that we wanted.. Burgers were very good as well, tho I think that they can be a tad bigger in size. The only thing was - was asked if we wanted rare/medium/well done, I went for the medium to see how it would be, it was ok, looked a bit pink and I was nervous, but I seem to have digested it well enough. I thought that burger joints should mostly be serving well done burgers because its mince meat and needs to be cooked through... also had the Bunsen lager - not outstanding, but good enough

I'm fairly certain that they are required to serve all burgers well done, they shouldn't even be offering any other options.

Yea - that's what surprised me... but I am an idiot too, I did ask for the medium :D

From the beginning when they opened in Dublin they explained that they mince their own meat freshly in a cold room to prevent any issues. I know Son of a Bun used to offer a choice of temperature before the closure order and that they can’t since then, but I’m sure Bunsen is subject to the same inspections and they haven’t been told to stop.

Thank you - that explains, will go for the medium again then and not feel like an idiot

Never a bad idea to question things when it comes to food safety though!

    Bumping this for you.
I'm only a city dweller, but I'm sure someone here will help you out!

    Any food preferences?
There are bound to be loads of offerings in that area.

Middleton has Sage and... What is the name of the restaurant in the English Market? Same name. Supposed to be good.

Narrowed to sage and farmgate. Are they both as good as each other . What about price wise ?

The defining factor is the internal temperature, not the appearance.
I've no doubt that they regularly check the temperature to ensure that it complies.
Note that they don't offer rare or medium rare burgers.

I love Bunsen because they don't overcook all their burgers by default.

I take zero pleasure in this but I never liked the place. Hopefully it was a managed exit and they can move on without a load of debt.
