I think Maynard probably has the least decisional parity in terms of the music Tool put out, going by the lead up to this album.

Listened a few tracks from last years album and wasn't impressed tbh. Own a few albums of Tool and A Perfect Circle, really like their heavier stuff.

Logically you'd think that, but who really knows, it's all shrouded in secrecy.

Only band I can think of to rival Tool in the secrecy stakes is Guns N' Roses.

One of our group has had to pull out of the gig in Prague so we have a spare ticket. If anyone is interested send me a PM.

Do I listen to live version of new songs or wait ~4 months?

    Decisions, decisions.

This is something that is bugging me about the upcoming gig. I generally don't enjoy listening to new music for the first time at a gig.

Wait... the live versions I heard online don’t sound bad but at the same time... they didn’t sound like something that they would spend over a decade writing!

    Looks legit this time.

    Thirteen years. Not bad going.

I'm not a big fan of seeing a band in the run up to a major release where the set is primarily made up of songs I've never heard before. However, I do love when I see a band perform a new song that makes a big impression and I end up associating that performance with the song forever more. It doesn't happen too often but when it does it's glorious.

I won't be seeing Tool on this tour so unfortunately it's bootlegs or nothing for me. Think I'll abstain.

Maynard confirmed the August 30th date for the Tool album via Twitter and a Thor meme of all things.

I felt the same but I also learned a long time ago not to judge a band's new material via a live vid from a camera in the audience. Gonna save the judgement until it's out.

Also it's always important to note they haven't been writing for a decade. A lot of that time was spent mired in legal proceedings that stunted the band for a while. I believe there was also health issues in the band too over that time.

Just back from Prague. Start to finish amazing. Started with Enema followed by The Pot. They played two new tracks. We got 46 & 2, Jambi, 4 degrees, Vicarious, Stinkfist a really good mix of songs.
The O2 is a great venue. The sound i thought was great although i did hear some people complain that it was too loud.
Tempted to go back next Tuesday to see Slipknot.

My initial thoughts on the setlists for this tour are not that impressive, but guess I'm being overly picky. Missing a few of their best songs imo.

Cant wait to see them in Amsterdam in under 2 weeks

If I could criticise them in any way it would be over their choice of set-lists. They tend to stick rigidly to the same set-list throughout a tour, not just now, but all the time. They very rarely vary it or change it up. I suppose they have a lot of things to sync up like visuals etc, etc - so everything has to run like clockwork, not leaving a lot of space for spontaneity. You'd love to see them start throwing a few deeper cuts here and there, but it's not their way of doing things.

But there's always exceptions - I went to see play at Ozzfest back in '02, when Ozzy infamously pulled out and as a result their slot became a kinda unofficial headline slot. We actually got a few extra tunes compared to the other Ozzfest setlists from the same period. They threw in Flood and Opiate on top of their usual played. Ah, that was a great day.
