Hard to take cavanagh seriously, a great player in his day, but doesn't come across as a deep thinker, adds nothing to the debate. His calls for these fouls was crazy stuff.
    Standard of analysis is poor.

Cavanagh did not do well there I agree.

Agreed. He is woeful. Mind you, he only has one full year as a pundit under his belt, so maybe we should cut him some slack, as he has to learn (like they all do) what he can get away with saying live on air, that won't get him lynched when he goes home.

But in fairness to Cavanagh didn't he critise Micky Harte/Tyrone last year?

In general, I find the the bigger the name, the worse the punditry. Dull, predictible and bland. Sheflin, Cooper, Cavanagh.. none of them are anything to write home about, compared to some of their own team mates who may not have been as big a superstar in their playing days, but are more able and willing to give insighful, and honest analysis when they have retired.

I assume Tomas O'Se and Ciaran Whelan are exceptions to your rule?
Or does Whelan count as a big name? :D

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Roscommon providing the definition of getting "stuck into them" so far. Hennelly will be having nightmares about that second goal.

Roscommon have the wind in the second enjoyable game

No bottle in that Mayo team.

Great stuff from Roscommon, would love to have seen it.

Useless forwards mayos undoing for the umpteenth time. Never convert more than 50% of their chances

Great stuff from Roscommon with 14 men at the end that took real guts. Another trek through the qualifiers for mayo in 2019, they have the quality to come through it and I expect to see them in the Super 8’s

Mayo to be booted to tier 2?

Its just funny to see Mayo gone again.

Just for the simple fact that in all the previews only Dublin, Mayo, Kerry and Tyrone get a mention and IMO Galway are better than Mayo and we haven't a hope of beating Dublin.
All the talk was Mayo were the biggest contenders and it was baseless... their best players are all approaching retirement and their slip at underage is starting to affect their seniors.

Galway and Roscommon yet again... it wont be the occasion Galway and Mayo would have been but since theres so many Mayo people in Galway its embarrassing to play them here as we're basically outnumbered.

All the other matches today show how much of a joke the championship is now.
Cant even sell out a double header in Portlaois and in all the games where a clear divide existed, they ended up being Turkey shoots.

Thank God they restructured the hurling as that will be the pivotal factor in the football following suit.

There's already another thread on this, but funny how people ignore the relatively close encounters between D4 teams and those from a higher level in recent weeks, but perk up again when the two All Ireland finalists from last year flex their muscles today.

And if we were to listen to Joe Brolly, that result in Castlebar wouldnt have happened today. Since even Roscommon, as a Division One team, weren't worthy of a seat at the top table after their defeat by Tyrone last year

David Brady the Muppet saying if they didn't beat roscommon by 12 to 15pts they were wasting their time. He is right in a way but you can't say that the day before a match as an ex player. Connaught is always a dogfight.

They might get their all Ireland then (well, an all Ireland B)

    Did he actually say that?

Common knowledge he's a clown of the highest order but that's a serious shout even from him.

Donaghy hard to listen to on Sky. But an upgrade on Gooch on RTE. Decisions decisions.

In fairness to Donaghy he called this one earlier in the week.

Realistically a three tier split isnt needed.
While the top D1 teams would be clipping the bottom few D2 teams consistently theres just too much a gap going two divisions down or up in any combination(D1 vs D3, D2 vs D4) for the most part.

Maybe they could look at splitting them into two divisions or 8 x 8.
Top 3 in the top tier and two teams from the bottom two go into the last 8 on a seeded basis.
That way at least the tier two arent shut out completely, the games are competitive for the most part and the tier two teams coming into it have a bit of form behind them.

On Matt Cooper last night. You could hear Senan Connell sniggering in the background as soon as it left his mouth.

There's not that much between the bottom of division 1 and division 3 teams. The big gap is with the top teams. They're far ahead of everyone. Why that is needs to be looked at. The other counties shouldn't get punished for it.

The best an fairest way to do it is divide the league into 3 divisions. If you're in the top two you play in the all Ireland. Division 3 have a separate championship. That means even if you are division 3 at the start of the year you still have the chance to play in the all Ireland by getting promoted first. It's great preparation too.

Mayo will always have the league I suppose. Grown men crying in the stands. A league title and award for cringiest moment of the year, a solid innings in 2019

Too much mouthing in the media. Maughan was at it as well. Practically wrote Anthony Cunningham's team talk for him.

As a Dub supporter I am not too surprised with the Rossies beating Mayo.
Mayo were awful against Dublin in the league and thier scoring was atrocious
In the Hyde park Dublin were lucky get out of there with the win, terrible conditions..
Yer man Cox was great that day as well.
I remember saying to a Rossie supporter if they play like that they could win Connacht.

Anyway fair play to the Rossies.

Too many mayo and Kerry pundits in the media in general. Completely disproportionate

I won't speak too much about it since there's a separate thread, but I'd like to see the Jim McGuinness idea put in place where everyone gets one shot in their province, then two tiers kicks in depending on league position. Because realistically, Dublin are way out ahead on their own, there's about 5-6 teams the next level down who aren't immune to shocks (Tyrone could have lost to Meath last year), and then there's not a huge difference between the teams in D2, D3, and the top of D4.

Getting back to today, its amazing how the same pattern of a game has knocked out Mayo four years in a row. They get frustrated very easily, always make a defensive mistake or two, and when forced to shoot from difficult positions, are just not accurate enough

After the Galway Mayo game in the league, David Brady came on and said David Cunnane had an excellent game for Galway, kept Lee Keegan under wraps. Cunnane wasn't even in the panel, he was listed in the programme as no.26 but Shane Walsh wore it. Galways most distinctive and known player marking Mayo's best player, and Walsh got motm, and Brady thought it was the guy from the programme. And newstalk have kept using him after it

Love to see Mayo draw Louth or Wicklow now just to see the GAA **** themselves about how much money they'll lose.

They should restructure the Connacht championship at this stage, it's getting boring having the big 2 play each other in the final every year 😉

Newstalk will never drop him as he's always great for a controversial quote. He always has something ridiculous to say like the time he lost his car after coming out of coppers.
