I was outside before half past five..... Clear shining sky and the encircling mountains etched in darkest grey against the rose tinted horizons.. Lambent glory, and utter calm.

Birdsong, and a distant cuckoo charming the air..skylark soaring high in ecstasy

A plane going over, and its contrail was rose pink...made me smile. Seeing life through a rosy glow indeed and although we know it may not last the ephemeral adds poignancy...

At the back a calm, serene ocean, almost bringing tears with the sheer beauty of it... power in abeyance.

Soon it will become more ordinary but soon after five am is a whole different scenario. Magical time... day newborn and pure

And on the lane, heavy frost on grass and wild flowers and a chill that ices the toes. A study in contrasts and the risen sun dazzling on a level with eyes

    6am
    Mount Dillon -3

Its station record for May (records back to 2007 for May) is -2.2c on 11th and 12th May 2010 though keep in mind it has a short history, so it looks like this was broken this morning.

-2.5c at Mullingar this morning. Its record is -2.6c on 4th May 1979 so a close call here though an impressive low nevertheless.

Few gardens might have been set back with those frosts

Yeah, early morning was as blue as it could get in Dublin 13 though plus a superb sunset here in the Wicklow Mountains.

Beautiful day in Kerry and Clare today. Got up to 14.9C at my site near Tralee, brilliant sunshine with very little cloud all day and very calm although the N'ly breeze would pipe up now and again and there was a fair chill in it , deceiving as you would easily get burnt . The Wild Atlantic Way didn't live up to it's name today thankfully :)

    Cliffs of Moher today.

UPDATE on the historic Arctic front moving across Europe this weekend, May 3-6th

My potato crop got burned due frost over the weekend. Had to put protection on last night to prevent any further damage.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

Cool and cloudy out here. Quiet and very peaceful. Cloud is not solid and not oppressive. West mayo offshore

Similar here Graces. You always put it so eloquently. Hopefully it will shine out a bit. Am delighted with this weather and it's not all that chilly in Tralee.

So quiet you could hear a pin drop; even the birds are quiet. And am sitting here with the door wide open. Bliss!

The last 3 springs have been noticeably cool. Are we in for another good summer?

It's funny, in winter I completely dismiss any snowfall or cold conditions showing in FI, but when it shows a bit of sun I stock up on suncreams and BBQ supply's.

Tried to sit out the back garden there with a cuppa. Quickly retreated in. Cold breeze there and no sun.

looks very cool over the next 3 days according to Met Eireann, with temperatures struggling to make it into double figures. Fire lit already. Aside from the 5 warm days over Easter, we've had the fire on every night since end of October, normally we would stopped lighting fires by now, but this May has been very chilly so far.
