The same reasons they pander to old people and largely ignore young people. They have to pander to voters.

Yer man had a pop at travellers to get votes and he wasn't arrested. He wasn't silenced. He won some voters and lost others.

He was allowed to say it and people were allowed to agree or disagree with him. I dont see the problem you're describing

The media threated Perer Casey badly.
Even when he appeared on The Late Late Show Ryan had a bunch of travellers in the audience to tear into him.
Would Ryan have allowed a bunch of settled people in the audience to give out to a traveller. I doubt it.

Can you think of any examples of PC gone mad in Ireland?

I mentioned George Hook. I already listed reaction to John Boyne. Gay rights have nothing to do with being PC.

I'll post what my favorite Marxists thinks on political correctness and I think he is 100% right.

    https://scrapsfromtheloft.com/2019/03/04/slavoj-zizek-political-correctness-form-of-totalitarianism/
Edit: This is wonderful example from link above of what I'm talking about
The only thing I know is that when I was in Missoula, Montana, I got engaged in a very friendly conversation with some Native Americans. They hate the term and they gave me a wonderful reason. They told me Native American and you are a cultural American so what, we are part of nature. They told me we much preferred to be called Indians. At least our name is a monument to white men’s stupidity who thought they are in India when they come here. And they had such a wonderful insight into how all this new age bull****, you know, we white people technologically exploit nature while natives relate to nature in a dialogic way like before they dig into earth they ask the mountain for permission if they are mining blah, blah. They don’t mean that – research shows that Native Americans, Indians, killed much more buffalos and burned much more forests than white people. You know why this was the correct point. Like the message was the most racist thing is to patronizingly elevate us in that, you know, primitive, organic, living together with mother nature. No, their fundamental right is to be evil also. If we can be evil, why shouldn’t they be evil and so on. So again even with racism, one has to be very precise not to fight racism in a way which ultimately reproduces if not directly racism itself at least the conditions for racism.

No political correctness gone mad is when people are accused of being bigots because they are not enthusiastic if Traveller family moves next door. Usually by people who live in nice middle class areas and oppose to any new development which would bring the value of the house down. It's very easy to decide how people should feel when you don't need to worry about issues like that.

"accused of being bigots because they are not enthusiastic if Traveller family moves next door".

A "Travellers are moving in next door."
    B "OK"
A "you weren't enthusiastic, you're a bigot". Said absolutely nobody, ever.

Either that doesn't happen or happens so seldom that it's hardly a big problem.

Isn't it interesting that you made up or exaggerated an example? Do you think PC gone mad is a big problem in your life?

Lol. They had him on one of the most popular shows in the country and that's somehow evidence that he was silenced or treated badly?

Is the problem that people disagreed with Casey?

1 so what is someone gets on their high horse? Why is that so frightening that it would put them off even discussing it?

Statement 1. Crime rates tend to increase when travellers move into an area -see these stats.

Statement 2. Travellers are scumbags and criminals.

The first statement is fine (assuming it's demonstrably true). The second statement isn't fine.

Is that political correctness gone mad?

Sorry I missed your post there.
Well from what I have seen anybody who talks about travellers in a negative light or who have concerns seems to get get shouted down or told they are racist.

Are you seriously suggesting you can't hear criticism of travellers in the real world?

You're in after hours and you can't find criticism of travellers? I don't think you're looking very hard.

I think it is a big problem for a society and it will bring into power more of the likes of Trump, LePenn, Orban, Vox and so on.

Political correctness is a powerful force at the moment as it is capable of directing and getting policy enacted by govt , it will remain correct until it is proved wrong and this may happen due to recession , war or a general realisation by the voting public that it is damaging their freedoms or livelihood , however as it is a powerful
l force among the young it may prove to be a resilient political philosophy.

Well of course its very prevalent amongst the young, we have never had more third level graduates and most third level institutions are Liberal madrassas

1,000 people surveyed at a rural area - WOW

Truly this means we need to ban homosexuals and be allowed to abuse black taxi drivers. This is the only way to save ireland

If it's a big problem then why did you make up a fanciful example instead of using a real one?

Maybe more people are just enjoying the message Trump etc. are telling them? Is it ok to call some of the things Trump and LePenn say, bigoted?

Just look how the media threated Peter Casey.

Shouted down? You just said he was INVITED on the LL show to air his opinions. That's roughly the opposite to being silenced.

Is you're problem that people disagreed with him?

Yes. that's part of debate, it is not ok to say 'you can't say that' or silence people because you don't agree with them. I want the right where people can offend me and where I can offend others. (that's different to abuse btw).

I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy in the taxi video is a constant rereg here

Ah yes. So you want to be able to say racial slurs without consequences.

    Thats really all it is.

You need to re-read Orwell. He warned about the right in Homage to Catalonia. He then lived through the effects of right-wing totalitarianism in WWII before writing Animal Farm & 1984, again warning about the right and including the left having witnessed Stalin's excesses.

He never dropped his focus on the fascists. And we'd do good not to also. Focusing on undergraduate students attacking with words while neo-Nazis attack with fists may be misguided.

One group (" alt right" etc) is relatively tiny with zero mainstream media support, the other( secular progressives - SJW, s) is considerably bigger with enormous mainstream media backing

What would be different if the country was less politically correct?

Apart from things like not having gay marriage and having more abusive and offensive language in day to day life.

I hear people say they cant say xyz for fear of being seen as politically incorrect. What do these people really miss because of political correctness? Do they want to go out and shout at gay people or immigrants? Call black people n1ggers and tell poor people they're scum because they accept social welfare?

I see all this as nonsense that people use to slow down progress because they don't like change even when the change is obviously better.

I don't want to roll back gay marriage and I'm in favour of euthanasia

I do however want the gloves to come off re_ travellers and feral delinquents who the media excuse due to claims of poverty and a broader alleged issue of " inequality"

Would also like to see the lie of " gender wage gap" nailed with confidence, add to that the lie that those in direct provision are prisoners, they are free to leave and head for Dublin Airport anytime they wish, those are a few examples off the top of my head

All of the above involve the Woke parroting lies, political correctness is largely about telling lies about certain subjects, groups of people and events

It's a philosophy built around false and re-engineered naratives

Everyone should let the bigots alone and sure pinching a girl on the arse was just a bit of fun. It's terrible we all have to take other people into consideration when we say and do things!

If inviting him to air his views on one of the most watched shows n the country is shouting him down, then I don't know what to tell you.

They had him on to air his view to the nation and they had on other people who disagree with him. Sounds about right to me.

Like you said, he did well out of it so he was hardly silenced. He was given a massive national platform but you don't seem happy with that because they also had people who disagreed with him.

WOW they thought ireland was changing too fast!

    Who couldve known that result???

Now you got people using this faulty study as a means of justifying racism.

Its a pathetic thread full of low IQ reactionaries
