Apart from advantages in getting sex/relationships, do you think there are practical benefits in getting a job interview, getting free meals etc..

One of my female friends said she got a free taxi ride in Canada and told the driver beforehand that she didn't have money. "pussy pass" as they call it. If that were a man, would it have happened. probably not.

They're really all that matters. Better looking people will always be treated better by people in general and will be pushed upwards easier in the workplace.

Ah yeah, they do a bit. Everyone likes looking at purdy people.

It’s very clear from politics that looks and success go hand in hand. The likes of Merkel, Trump, Enda Kenny are exceedingly beautiful and it has helped them rise to the top.

I remember someone telling me once that politics was show business for ugly people. Made me laugh some.

Appearance is vitally important in business. Smart clothes, smart shoes, smart haircut, clean shaven, and a firm handshake with clear eye contact are all essential.

Even a 3 in Dublin can move up to a 6, even a 7 if the hair is right, with a nice suit.

Looking like a scruff in bootcut jeans, converse all stars, some sort of band or “novelty” tshirt, and a pubey beard won’t get you very far.

You can be an ugly b**tard and have a great life but usually vast amounts of money is necessary for this .

Looks matter, smarts matter, money matters, charm matters, humour matters. These are all skills/resources to be exploited. It works just as well for men as women.

In terms of sex, sex with women humour is more important really than looks. Sex with men, humour still helps, but body is more important.

Obviously they do. If you are trying to get into an IT support position and you look too good in a suit, clean shaven and bright eyed, you would immediately raise a suspicion.

    Not really.

If Brexit and Trumpism has proved anything it's that incompetent clowns can be successful as long as they're born into privilege and sound like they're know what they're doing.

Irish politics has already demonstrated this tbh.

    ?

Who thinks Trump sounds like he knows what he's doing? I mean even his devotees regularly say 'oh thats not what meant'/'oh he was being funny'.

'Looks' shouldn't be thought of in an unneccessarily narrow way.

Money does seem to be attractive to women. A male 5 can get s female 10, with enough cash.

Looks aren't all that matter but they count for a great deal. I'd say men have more leeway in terms of non-conventional looks but both genders seem to have to try that bit harder at most things if they're not gifted with a pleasant visage.

You can make up for a lot of it with style, individuality and personality, so it's not a lost cause if you're not classically good looking.

In the end, everyone's looks fade and what's left behind is what you have to deal with for most of your adult life.

I worked in a place where a girl from the factory floor got a job upstairs in the offices and no way in hell was it anything to do with her education, skills or experience. She is actually a very nice person but everyone knew why she was picked for the job.

Looks catch the eye but personality catches the heart.

Being good looking is an advantage. Being funny is too, creative, wealthy, bla bla bla... All advantages. Some you're lucky to have and some you earn or learn.
I'd rather be with a person who makes me laugh than be with a good-looking person if its one or the other. But I'd rather be good looking than funny myself, in the hope I could learn to be funny.
It's all subjective and relative etc....

But what we all ultimately want is to be happy and no one thing gets ya there. Just a myriad of crap and ultimately too much emphasis gets placed on good looks in our society.

I just wanted to ask the following without derailing the thread. Are funny people only funny because they are fat or not attractive? If a funny person overcompensating for their lack of looks? Does an attractive person not have to try to be funny?

It works ok with google employees.

Looks do matter. Use them while u have them, because they don't last.

This seems to be a fairly consistent refrain in such threads and debates. I don't get it. OK if you're 70 or something, but if you stay slim and healthy, don't look like your face got slapped with a shovel in childhood and you haven't the kind of babyface that goes off the boil by 20, your looks at 30, 40, even up to 60 don't shift that much. A good looking 20 year old is still going to be a good looking 40 year old. So you've a few decades before you should be reaching for the elasticated sweatpants and giving up. Goes double for men. Other than going bald(which can be worked around) they don't have the hormonal shifts or pregnancy or thinner skin and more fat tissue of women, so have far fewer excuses to "fade".

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Can only be worked around if you've the right hormonal profile, not an option for everyone :(

Sure look at Prince William - he's gonna be the King of England and yet he can do nowt about his hairloss
