Burns trolling stockdale with one handed finish...

    Very good performance by Ulster.

Didn’t someone reputable post a rumour that Lyttle might not be here next season?? Really hope it’s not true, cause he’s incredible - fantastic step, great at wriggling out of contact, decent in the air, and has a good kicking game.

Yes rumours as his injury record is appalling...

Aye Paul was saying that...but it was a while ago and in dact I think he has since signed a new deal

Unbelievable. Did not expect this at all. Fantastic effort lads.

Stockdale holding the hamstring didn’t look good.

Lyttle was great, Kane held up against a very very good front row, and Coetzee was quietly excellent - carried well and dealt with Watson and Mata very well also.

Very pleasing game to watch, backline and forwards just looked clued into everything!

On the positive side he can have a couple of weeks of now.

Lovely try for Burns. That's the BP!

Burns again played well tonight. Eventually he will start to get the credit he deserves.

What a find he has been this season! If I was Gilroy i'd be worried!

Balacoune needs to improve his aerial game a lot. If he does that he could be very good.

Stockdale and Lyttle working in tandem are lethal. The backs were a joy to watch tonight.

He’s been inconsistent, but he’s a tall guy who looks to have a good vertical, so at the very least he should be able to disrupt opposition back threes.

Congrats guys!! incredible performance!! hopefully Marty is ok

Great to see from Ulster, they totally outclassed Edinburgh and played great rugby!!! a bit of strength in the squad and a good bash at Europe next season......

In the last two years we have lost an entire backline of test quality including two or three players who at their prime could have been described as world class.

It's amazing that in a year we have turned things round to the point where we have a backline that can turn in a performance like that tonight.

It shows the difference a decent pack can make I suppose.

Ahhh lads... Just got to see hour-long highlights on TG4.

Stockdale has just turned 23, and is the old man of our backline for the crunch part of the season - Lyttle, Baloucoune, Lowry, Kernohan and him. (Have heard from Those In The Know that Baloucoune is the fastest in the squad - crazy fast, but just the way things have happened, the only time he has got to show it is when he's been pedalling back for a tackle.)

But the turnaround in our forwards... Edinburgh, with their all-international front row, should be scundered. I'm sure some doofus from Munster or Leinster will get the accolade, but EOS is genuinely, the best, most important young Irish player to emerge for a province this season.

Baloucoune is from a 7s background? would the lack of aerial skill be a result of that?

Regardless, he just looks so classy for being so young, not to mention his first year playing with the seniors.

Hard to fault anyone last night. Just really need to progress our backrow replacements/cover.

Folk on UAFC saying Stockdale is fine, crutches were precautionary. Someone else saying Lowry and Ludik should be back for QF.

Yeah for all the talk of improvement in academy forwards I'm yet to see any results bar EOS

Adam McBurney and Tom O'Toole have been doing fine. I think we will see a lot more of McBurney next season if Rory retires and Herring gets more Ireland gametime. O'Toole is really young for a THP and is probably well ahead where most THs his age would be, again with Herbst gone O'Toole will likely see more time next season.

I would like to see Matthew Dalton raise his game, but I wonder about his head. He seems a lose cannon. But he's young. He's only 20 so I wouldn't rule him out yet.

There are a few guys in the Academy that have potential, but who knows how things will pan out. I would say though to look out for Callum Reid. He's a prop so it might take another year or so but he's a good'un.

O'Toole's agression and carrying! Has been great!

Really need our academy backrows to put their hands up next season! Or atleast start getting bench time.

Its not sustainable relying on Coetzee, Muprhy, Reidy and Timoney. With Rea and Ross (Outa contract?) used sparsely. Wonder will the arrival of Roddy Grant help bring them on? Fingers crossed.

Front row academy is looking good I suppose I mean second and back row looks slim

Gonna put my head above the parapet and say this early.

It’s been a long season, and we have little depth. We’re getting thin in the backs, we’re already thin in the forwards. We’re one more injury from starting Peter Nelson, Andy Warwick or David Shananhan in a Pro14 home QF.

Weans against Leinster. Don’t care if we get bate. We can play for pride, or we can box clever and focus on playing for silverware.

Would be great to get a home win in the last regular season game. Although I do agree. I would not risk any of our big players. Hendy, Stockdale, Cooney, Coetzee should be rested.

The other way to look at it is around building momentum....tough call either way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Ideally we won't be risking our big players.

That said the Connacht is 3 weeks away so we don't want them to be rusty either. Someone like Henderson can step in and step up anytime, other players sometimes need the momentum.

I'd rest O'Sullivan, Henderson and Coetzee, I'd maybe try and give Lowry a start at 10 if he is fit. That said the more Cooney and Burns play together the better a pairing they become.

I would rest McCloskey as he has played almost every game, I assume they will want to give Cave the 13 jersey for this game anyway, so stick Luke to 12. I definitely wouldn't be risking Stockdale.

Momentum is more an individual thing anyway. Last week we got smashed by Glasgow, yet put in one of our top 2 performances of the season a week later against Edinburgh.

Leinster will send up a second string.
Most likely , both sides will be under strength.
