    It's not a clone. It's what aviation geeks call a data-plate rebuild.

If you knew you'd never sell it and keep it for good it would be highly tempting. Purely hypothetically of course!

No didn't get a chance. Usually I would remember that sort of stuff, the one time it probably is dodgy I miss it....

Kinda hard to find someone in Ireland willing to pay €2,350 a year on tax and keep up with the fuel and oil costs.

I think the point is to put it on 06 plates and get the cheap tax ;)

    and zero vrt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,197 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I know that, you know that.
But most people would not. And it happens A LOT. Especially in vintage car circles where cars are often "Mercedes - OTHER" on the book.
I concur I don't think he would get away with it (nor should he as it's illegal) but I share the pain re high taxation.

I think you're missing the point MM. Bring in a post 08 R3, and stick his old plates on it. No VRT, cheap tax, just an older plate. Also completely illegal

But there's no such thing as a pre 08 R3.

There's also no such thing as a 1979 LR discovery but here we are.

Yeah because that's what I set out to do by stating fact

Enlighten me so as to how it's done.

Everybody else probably knows this but I've just realised I can declare a vehicle off road online.
And for once they have made it simple.
Login with your pin and just press declare off road and that's it done.

And retaxing it online again makes life simple too.

Can anyone explain why the prices changes twice daily in circle k Maynooth ? One price in the morning and another in the evening. Take today miles and miles plus this morning was 1.41 each then some stage in the afternoon was 1.42 for miles and miles plus was 5 or 6 cent more. This has happened every day this week various prices twice daily.

    I dunno...

Find a damaged pre-08 car. Cut the vins out of it.

Import an R3 from the UK. Weld the VINs in.

It's really just rebuilding the original car using the engine, electrics, seats, carpets, body, lights, suspension, wheels and pecular scent of baby sick from a newer car....

I think the basic shell is the exact same. In theory, (And complete impracticality) you could take the bare metal shell and rebuild it entirely with parts from an R3....

Sure, if you have the VIN and the logbook, that's the car right there. Everything else is just rust and parts.

How much would you pay someone to take 2 tyres off alloys? My mechanic won’t want anything. But I want to give something for doing it. I don’t want to insult him either though! :o

In small situations like this I always give 10-20eu to my mechanics and most importantly add: ah, come on m8, a few beers for you tonight.
That 20eu might sound expensive at that point, your mechanic will remember it next time.

€10 tops. Taking off is a lot easier than fitting.

That’s actually a very good idea! Cheers! Much appreciated SH!
