Netflix without a smart tv?

Thanks for all the replies.
I am very ignorant of these matters.

So I got a chromecast and thought I was getting places just using WiFi from my phone.
But it only lets me get so far as chromecast disables the hotspot.
The google home link has to be via app so I don’t seem to be able connect via my laptop.
I don’t see myself using it much so I’d rather not sign up to a 12-18 month contract with a broadband provider.
I have limitless internet via my phone.
Does anyone know if there’s any way around this?
Or do I just have to stop being cheap?

How much are you paying for your mobile phone per month? What speed are you getting on your phone?

If you want to be cheap try to use your phones WiFi for apps like what’s app, get a top up package that you top up when you want.

get a broadband package and make sure to renew every year with a different provider. Shop around, if you can avoid getting home phone then do but it’s often similar pricing.

3’s has a 20 euro top up with unlimited data, free texts to all and free mins to other 3 mobiles. I try to avoid topping up as I use public and work WiFi outside the house.

You’d probably have been better of getting a HDMI convert for your phone and running the apps from the phone, what’s Netflix like on the phone?

3 reception is good and reliable and I use the hotspot to watch stuff on my lap top and it works fine.
I’m on the €20 3 package for phone and it suits me fine.

I can get 3 WiFi for house for €30 a month, but I’d really just be paying for the rare occasion visitors wants to watch something other than a dvd on tv.
And it’s an 18 month contract.

The chromecast hooks up to the hdmi socket in the tv fine.

Yes, I am stuck in the 90s!

If your not using the laptop when watching why not hook it up to the TV with a HDMI cable, no real need for the chromecast
