I recall Spurs being penned in first half by a very high press, perhaps dominate is the incorrect word but certainly, the main point being made here is we got annihilated in midfield 2nd half

We were decent first half. Not great in the second. But Spurs still needed a freak goal from Wanyama that he will never score again in his life and a fortunate pen to actually score.

    Hopefully Trippier starts sunday.

    Mane will destroy him 1v1

Aurier went off after injuring his hamstring at the weekend on international duty so Trippier will start this game I would assume.

I was also at the Spurs 2-2 game last year.
To be honest, I was still quiet drunk from the night before / topping up that morning for the start of the game when Salah scored so quickly :o I can't really remember much more of the first half but the second half, Spurs definitely dominated the ball in midfield. They got a screamer of a goal alright and stayed on top. I remember the Kop all saying that we had robbed a winner when Salah got his 2nd so late, but then the obvious disappointment with the 2nd pen then late from Kane.

from what I remember, we made some bad subs too, and just invited the pressure on aswell. did we go 5 at the back aswell?

Last years game has no bearing.

We beat them already this season. Spurs have struggled all year against rivals.

We play to a good level not even our best & we will win.
Chelsea at home will be more difficult imo.

SOunds about right , was in the Kop myself that day ,

Our midfield was Can, Henderson and Milner , I recall, OX and Gini came on and made no impact ,
We went 3 at the back for the last 10 minutes alright, Matip on for Milner I think ,

They got two soft penalties that day too.... Virgil no tackle on Lamela and Lovern swinging and missing the ball to allow an "offside" Kane to fall over Karius.

Its the final run in now boys. PL or CL or both. This could be the dream season yet, I'm so excited to see how it turns out.

PL the dream, CL instead would be more than fantastic. Both would be RandyMarsh.jpg

Neither would be disappointing but still in a 'that was a very good season overall' type of way to make you want next season to start immediately.

If anyone says that this season was our big chance to win the PL I'd have to say bollox to that, as City will likely get 94 points+ while winning it. If the winner got 85 or so and we didn't win it after being in the race, that might be a better argument, not when they are getting huge points totals on the board.

If we don't win it, it'll be because we weren't capable of putting up the points total that City was. This season anyway. Nothing more.

This Spurs game will be strange, because we have to win,
Normally we do not HAVE to win against the big six but we do now ,
Of course you Try to win ,but sometime you are happy to take a draw and not gamble on being beat but we can not afford any more draws ,

So NORMALLY we do not HAVE to win against a big 6 team however this time we do?

So if it is ok to lose/draw 10 games a season NORMALLY to a big 6 team what does that say?

I think that say we aren't one of the big 6/

I remember reading articles at the beginning of the season postulating that Man City may be the best Premier League/Div 1 side of all time.

To be still in with a shout of the title (and CL) as we go into April is nothing short of astounding.

I'm hoping we can blow Spurs away on Sunday.

    Prediction 3-0.

One thing I am confident in saying right now is that this is not the top of the mountain for this current team. This doesn't feel like a 'now or never' moment like 2008-2009 or 2013-2014 did. I don't see this team breaking up like this teams did.

We are on an upward curve here. We will improve on this season, trophies or not, and we will be challenging again next season in both the league and in Europe once more.

    Ride the wave lads.

This is a good point. Some fans have seemed to lost all sense of perspective. Hearing words like "crap" and "rubbish" after drawing a couple of tough games. Reactionary silliness.

The growth of this club since Klopp came in has been incredible. We'll likely end up with a points tally that would have won a lot of leagues in times gone by and have minimum made the last 8 in the CL.

    Massive massive progress.

Tbh,i enjoyed 13-14 more than this year, cjty are very unnerving but they WILL deop points this month and we have to capitalise unlike when they got beat by newcastle. Mental toughness is going to play a huge part.

Come on man its not hard to get what I'm saying ,

A draw can be seen as a good result against the big six in season's gone by or even at different stages of this season ,
For instance its 1-1 with 10 minutes to go the manger mite feel like that its enough no point going all guns out for a winner and losing,

Take the point and move on,

For instance CITY at home early this season was ok result, Chelsea away at the time was a decent result

This game we MUST win , 1 point and moving on will not do due to the CURRENT circumstance,

I'm still mad about that offside rule, it's so dumb that had Lovren missed the ball entirely Kane would've been offside, but because he got a slight touch on it it's fine.

AND on top of all that I'm not sure Karius ever touches him.

No, the rules are fine. The Ref just made a balls of it.

The player was offside as soon as the pass was attempted. Lovren touching it after that is irrelevant.

Everyone loves a comeback Shirley Karius will be a decent No2 when Mignolet leaves. Allison ironically has made more mistakes this season for Liverpool than Karius has for Beşiktaş, yet Karius has a label now, when he makes a mistake it's multiplied x 100 in the media and on social media. When Allison makes a mistake he's forgiven instantly as he too has a label, one of being brilliant.

I don’t think City could be described as the greatest unless they win the PL a hell of a lot more times than they already have.

Allison is a far better keeper. In every department. His mistakes are forgiven because if there is a shot on target its not an instant goal, unlike some of our previous GK's. His presence in this team and what he brings should be fairly obvious to anyone.

They are labels well deserved for both IMO.

The linesman said if Lovren plays the ball then Kane is onside and award the peno or something to that effect. Jon Moss, quite plainly said he had no idea if Lovren plays the ball. So, neither the ref or the linesman saw Lovren play the ball, couldn't confirm if he did/didn't yet the ref awarded the penalty regardless. It was a ridiculous call.

Everything about it was annoying, from Kane being offside to the ball rolling over Lovrens foot.

I dunno, on course for 190+ points over two seasons is fairly ridiculous......

That's not the rule. The ref actually got it right according to the laws of the game.

Also, in that clip of Kane diving...just watch his left leg. Concentrate on nothing else....amazing how it it loses the will to plant itself in the ground. Oscar worthy stuff.

The rule comes into effect even if he attempts to play that ball. He doesnt even have to connect with it!! If Lovren swung and missed Kane would still be onside according to the laws as they stand. The only way Kane would have been offside is had Lovren just stood there and not done anything .

The ref and linesman saw he attempted to play the ball, it didn't matter that he connected or not so Kane was technically onside.

It's a crazy rule that has no basis in common sense.

The law is subjective. It states that the player must have interfered with play to be offside, which is all down to interpretation. The ruling on the day was that Lovren was playing the ball, this ruling Kane onside. But another ref on another day could say that Lovren only made that move because (an offside) Kane was right there, prompting the action. No Kane, no move from Lovren, thus logically Kane was interfering with play before Lovren ever moves to touch it, and is offside.

The law as written doesn’t necessarily need to change, but consistency on what is counted as interfering with play needs to be clarified. Ideally though, they’d reword the law itself to be less subjective and less ambiguous.

I wonder what football would look like if there was no offside rule at all.

One or two defenders always sitting very deep, lots of red cards as they come out and foul the attacker running through...

He wasn't interfering with play going by the rules though.
Interfering with play, by definition, only comes into it if Kane touches the ball played by a team-mate .... and because Lovren played , or attempted to play the ball, he's then deemed onside.

Is he physically interfering with play? No. Which is grand witin the rules...what it doesnt account for is mentally Lovren is aware kane is behind him and goes to clear.

They really should make it black and white. If you're off, you're off.

Same balls of it they made for Sterling opening goal v Watford, at least there consistently poor
