Lads I have to be Jonest now....I have a few beers in me. Tonight was the first Irish international I have not watched in nearly 20 years, spent it instead playing ball with the kids and having a BBQ in the garden. After hearing JD being moved from A to B within the FAI to try and get fans back on side I must admit I am not closer to returning to games, home or away. It all kinda resembles the SK - Mick situation.

The move tonight only shows how corrupt the FAI really is. They have given JD the position to ensure he can continue to sit on UEFA comittees thus ensuring he still earns a health penny from football and he no longer has to answer to the press as he no longer runs the FAI.

I will be writing a mail to Fergus O´Dowd tomorrw expressing my concern at the workings of the FAI......something major has to happen and he has to ask the questions on the 10 April.

JD, Finance Director, Treasurer, head of press department and most of all head of security have to be grilled and if needed removed from office. These people have been facilitating gross misconduct within the organisation for some time.

Journo on twitter telling YBIG, that they have hundreds of documents from FAI and there’s more to come on this story

The entire was story broke by a political reporter (Mark Tighe of the Sunday Times). That says a lot about the sports jounralists who are cosy with the FAI in the press box.

back to the game and red cards would be great, supporters need to come together and get rid of the poison once and for all!

The problem is that you've got a tiny few disgruntled people on niche forums like this and in LOI circles, but the vast majority of people going to the Aviva are only interested in getting a snap of the kids in their new Ireland kits for Facebook and probably don't even know who anyone in the FAI is. Bad results is the only thing that will keep the daytrippers away and make a statement with a half empty ground.
What a load of sh1t. I brought my son to Irish matches long before Facebook even existed. I was there to support the team, not lecture a 12 year old on the merits of John Delaney.

Perhaps encourage fans who do go to games not to wear green, but red colours instead, as a symbol of how they're bleeding the game dry. Broadcasters would surely be forced to explain why on camera shots of the crowd so many fans aren't wearing the team's colours.

Saw another idea that fans should bring red cards into the stadium and wave them through the game.

I agree a boycott is the most powerful and effective strategy.

I don't expect anything to happen though. It will blow over eventualy like always and Delaney will probably return to his original post.

The best fan protests I have seen this year were in the Bundesliga against Monday night games...
    - Black tennis balls pelted onto the field from 1 block
    - Empty (Ultras) block for the first and last 10 minutes of a game

    Alternatives

    - 5 minutes silence and them loud shouts of FAI open the books/We are the FAI
    - Your idea is great but then black...everyone waving white tissues....chants of Football is ill, Football is dieing.

    - Most effective...complete boycott of home and away games (if I am correctly informed the FAI have been giving away more than 50% of match tickets recently)

Exactly. Most people don't give a **** so there's no point in organising a protest. It'll only happen organically when/if results really go to pot.

Fans should organise a protest in stadium

    Twitter
    Fan boards

    Has to be something simple

    Just after national anthem

    All in stadium
    Delaney out
    Clap
    Delaney out
    Clap

Would Niall Quinn being in charge be favoured by Irish fans?

Alternative....blow the roof of the Aviva singing the Anthem....
then all walk out with chants of......Delany Out...more changes needed.

Return 10-15 minutes later...chants of "We paid your wages"

The problem I have is that the people who are asking for protests aren't bothered to do it themselves, at the same time, they are happy to castigate others for not doing so.

    It's hypocrisy.

How do you know they haven't been protesting? As pointed out there are many ways to protest. Personally I haven't given the FAI a cent in years and actively take part in protests against the FAI at LOI games.

    “Delaney Now, Sir.”

    “Excellent.”

People should mass exit the game on Thursday 14 minutes before the final whistle. One minute for every year he's been in charge. That's the biggest visual impact that fans can make.

It worked for Liverpool when they tried to raise ticket prices.

I think Richard Sadlier summed it up best.

This move is supposed to be the outcome of a part of a strategic review.

What are the merits of a strategy that involves

The CEO leaving quiet abruptly, immediately, an hour after the final whistle, three days before a qualifier, in the middle of a controversy, a week after the High Court were called upon to keep things quiet.

The biggest problem with Ireland fans and mass protests is that the "Superfans" won't engage. There should have been a mass boycott years ago but these folks want to be able to say "I haven't missed a home game since nineteen dickety dix" or "I'll never leave a game early".

The only way to truly effect the FAI is not buying tickets but people will still end up buying their season tickets and won't damage their chances of tickets to away games.

It's very similar to Newcastle. They'll whinge and whinge about Mike Ashley but they still buy season tickets and the new Jersey, therefore nothing happens

Lads just thinking here as I drink more of this wonderful German water in bottles......

JD appointed to a new position within the FAI.....

    - Would this job not have to be advertised publically???
    - Will he be paid for the position and if so how much??
    - Will he continue to donate his UEFA earnings to the FAI??

An finally...to the FAI who are not rolling in money it seems....they do afterall need loans from their former CEO to get over the rounds.....how can they afford or justify the need for a new position and the expense it will bring with it. What will the new CEO be paid???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,429 ✭✭✭.G.

The new position came about as part of a strategic review which began a while ago and led by some dude who is formerly of the English FA. He recommended, among other things, that they create the role of vice president. So the timing was quite nice for them to create the role and hand it to Delaney, obviously hoping that we'd all be chuffed that he's not CEO anymore. I assume they had hoped to be doing it off the back of a strong win for the the team in Gibraltar too but they got that sh!t show instead.

Problem is, if we are losing to Georgia on Tuesday night, the stadium might naturally start emptying at that time, so it might just look like people leaving rather than a walkout.

Onto the pitch and stop the game like they used to do it

    Can't see that happening

Yes, the biggest problem in Irish football is clearly all those fans who come out to watch their national team :pac:

    Tomorrow’s Sunday Times Paper

FAI have paid Delaneys rent €36,000 a year on top of his salary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

Seems the Family Court thing is true and JD was "hiding" his money in the FAI whilst in family court. Also seems the FAI were paying the rent on his fancy gaff.

Most importantly if any of the 2 items are true, that is fraud and a criminal offence. His wife is going to sue the **** of him and the FAI.

Seems the whistleblower is the ex head of finance in the FAI.

from what Richie Sadlier said on the news tonight, he can't take his position on UEFA without being president or vice president of a national organisation, so this new position was created specifically for that. absolute shambles.

Oh please let this all be true. Most of us knew his day of reckoning would come but for it to potentially bring the walls in on that entire cess pool of a board would be beyond sweet.

Imagine this story coming out in any other civilized country in Europe. Now imagine the guy involved getting to remain within the organisation just in another capacity.

    We're such a shambles.

I really don't think the FAI are unique in that regard.

Look at UEFA and FIFA they are riddled with corruption and cronyism.

I doubt the characters involved only turned into bad apples the day they joined those higher bodies.
I'd say they learned their trade long before within their own FAs.

There was a poster a few days ago who outlined what was going on in other FAs with regards scandal, there was plenty.
