That’s a lad with like 100 followers who doesn’t appear to be a journalist?

I was about to stay that. There is absolutely no new facts and (or) speculation in that.
Thats a guy on social media on the couch trying to get a few new followers! The whole "dolly bird" reference proves that. You would swear Delaney is going to be ruined after all this. He is a very wealthy man with probably a few pensions still on the way and sits on a few boards. TBH, I doubt he gives a sh*te, he just wanted to leave on his own terms

The journalists are vague about the full facts but overwhelming speculation is that he is gone.

RTE saying he's stepped down as CEO but taken up new role in the FAI.

    Must be treasurer again.

Hopefully he is gone and Sport Ireland/Minister for Sport now tell the FAI that they need to put a 5 year maximum term limit for the new CEO going forward if they want anymore money.

The Chief Executive of the FAI John Delaney is to step aside from his role with immediate effect.

He will assume a different role within the Association, that of Executive Vice President with responsibility for all UEFA and FIFA matters including the proposed World Cup 2030 bid with the UK, the Under 21 Euro bid with Northern Ireland and matters pertaining to the Aviva Stadium from an FAI perspective.

It is understood that Ireland would host a significant number of games in the World Cup should the proposed bid prove successful.

The decision to step aside comes amid controversy around a €100,000 bridging loan which John Delaney provided to the association in 2017 which was repaid to Mr Delaney within a matter of weeks.

In a statement this evening, the association said the decision to split the roles was taken in recent weeks following a report into governance at the association undertaken by Jonathan Hall which recommended that oversight functions should be split.

The current Chief Operating Officer at the FAI, Rea Walsh, will act as interim CEO starting on Monday next.

It is understood a full public procurement process will be undertaken until the full time role of CEO is filled.

All set up to try bury whatever the real story around that loan is. They'll get away with it too.

He's just switching chairs in the boardroom. That's not changing anything.

Absolutely farcical that this is allowable. What a sham of a organisation.

I agree with this. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I'm no fan of Delaney but my view is he's either done something wrong in which case he has to go or he's done nothing wrong in which case could continue in his current role.

To shuffle his position around internally is paying lip service to the matter.

    What a shambles.

Got excited thinking he was finally leaving and now he's just in a diff role?

This whole charade doesn’t start or finish with Delaney, however, now that the FAI have a name to put behind it the whole thing will be buried and that’ll be it.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s about time there was some accountability for his actions but my guess would be that there’s numerous people involved and that after his name got out Delaney was “offered” the chance to step aside taking a new title for a cushy number (and with it a nice settlement) before he was pushed and/or exposed further. Sacrificing a big name like Delaney once his name was out there to save the many and appease the general public was always the cleanest option. There’s also many people Delaney could out so keeping him sweet keeps them safe too.

A root and branch investigation needs to be conducted but this will probably be the last we ever hear of it until the next person in the FAI gets caught out.

He's left his position. He's not f*cking us from the front anymore but from the side.

Full investigation needed here definitely. Don't care what FIFA have to say about government interference because they are taking Irish football fans for fools and it can't go on. Change is needed.

Does this get him out of any questions about the loan then?

It was said on radio earlier Apparently a whistleblower has provided documents to the committee investigating the FAI over the last few days. This story is going nowhere for the time being

I hope there is so much more and he has to sing like a bird to avoid being charged. Name everyone in the FAI who were complicit and get them all out.
