No, it was not compulsory. But it was handy to see the form required for the sit-ups and push ups etc. You can always view the videos online however.

Yeah I'll ring them now and explain the family situation!

They will ring you with a date and both will be held on different days in the station nearest to where you live, so you can’t choose the station. Good luck with the call and hope they take it on board

You won’t meet them together it’s two separate meetings. My daughter was told my the super that her vetting was cleared but I think that was because she was very near the end of everything, this campaign is a lot slower for her

Hi Courtney. I met my Sgt in January and JTS more of an informal chat. The Sgt will just bring you in and run through your form B again and ask you to declare anything before he sends it off. They will probably talk to you about the next stages too and just explain them and ask if you have any issues. It'll be done and dusted in about 20 mins

No bank statements,your only in as part of the back round check the Garda do themselves ,so just make sure you tell them about any trouble youv had in the past with the law if any and tell them if any of your relatives have had dealings with police.

There is due to be another compition in 2019- no date given yet. You can set yourself a profile on public jobs.ie to get an alert for when the recruitment drive is open.

Hi guys just got an email from public jobs saying iv got invited to the interview stage . I was originally in mid 2000s on the oom and didnt think i was going to get any further .

So id just like to know what information is required for the interview stage and tough are the competencies.?

I see it says you need to be involved into voluntary organizations or that it is a help for the interview. What if you are not involved does this have any impact ?

Any information would be greatly appreciated thanks .

Hey bud. Only advice I can give is to to think about areas in your life that you can base the competencies around , write them down . A couple for each 1 . And memorise them . Even if you have to slightly bend the truth . Eg. If you play on a sports team . You could say your involved in the youth development side .
Your an ear for some of the younger teammates, you offer advice . Ect .
Just make sure you are confident going in to the interview and you’ll be fine .
The panel do not want to fail you , in fact they will most likely try to help you .

I'm a teacher and the salary scale says what we make after tax. Same with the nurses so it'll be the same with the Gardai.
Bear in mind that figure doesn't include any over-time nor allowances. We were told by a sergeant at stage 2 that we can realistically hope to earn 40,000-45,000 in our first year.

I really don’t think that’s after tax.... if it is will make things a lot easier for me. I’m on mid 40s now and getting a lot of hassle about taken a pay cut from herself but if you’re right i will show her this haha really hope you are but I don’t think so

You're right actually. Texted a friend who's a garda there and he says it's before. Jesus, it's not much. Hopefully the OT and allowances make a big difference.

From speaking to someone I know, they advised the wages normally go as follows:

480

900/1000 (This the week you get your OT and out of hours pay)

So basically, for some people you may be working a lot more hours at unsociable times for less or for the same pay as your on now.
But I guess as they say, the money isn’t the main reason people go into the Garda, just unfortunate that the pay is lower than what it probably should be.

Again, I’m just going off what I was told, if anyone can provide a better insights into what type of salary to expect with OT included and allowances, please do.

Seems very low for what the job invloves. The salary isn't that much of a difference to the prison service I think you get a bit more as a prison officer. Can I ask if the salary is so low why do people want to do the job if they want to take a pay cut ? Is it just for job security? Or the benefits of the job ?

To put it simply for most i would think its pride in the uniform and the love of the job.But more importantly its the fact that you are there to keep people of ireland safe.Nobody joins the defence forces,Gardai or Fire service for the pay.Sorry for the patriotism i was in the Navy for 3 years and i know thats how alot of the lads felt.

Well it's a recession proof job you have great job security lots of opportunities for promotion or going into specialist units and then your money goes up every year .
The only issue I have is if they out you far distance away from your own like as in opposite side of the country but I think you can transfer closer to home after few years aswell

Yes that's true do they place everyone in Dublin and then you are based there for a good few years until to can transfer closer to home . Handy if you are from Dublin I suppose lol .

I don't think they would send you that far I think everyone has to start in Dublin not to sure .

You can get anywhere really but they more than likely are not going to send you the opposite end of the country. So when you are attested, you are on probation for two years and where you are stationed is your duty station for those two years.Once you're out of probation you can apply for a transfer.

There will be another recruitment for 800 coming up again within the coming months. There has been regular recruitment campaigns for a few years now The force is targeted to be brought up to strength by 2021. The age limit is 35. You can set-up alerts on your public jobs account to be notified of the next one.

Have my fitness test Friday week (22nd march) but I'm after injuring my knee playing soccer last night so don't know if I'll be able to do it. Going to see a phisyo on Thursday but would anyone have any advice? If i cancel will i be waiting much longer for another date for fitness test?

I've been waiting to hear back in regards to my vetting for months now. I did the interview and brought everything in, but was asked to provide more via post. I did that months ago but still heard nothing. Do you think it would be acceptable to ring them to enquire? I've emailed but got no response. What can I say on the phone? Can I request some sort of timescale?

Id say get in touch with hq maybe and see what the story is . Just be out front and say you did vetting awhile back and was wondering what stage it is at .

If you are from the 2018 campaign you haven’t been waiting that long considering. There are still plenty on here form 2017 and even some waiting from 2016.
If you ever lived abroad that could hold it up?

No harm in giving them a call to check everything is in order though.

I don't think you can get out of paying some sort of fee to get out of the contract mate. No offence and all but you did sign and agree to the contract which would have told you that there would be a price if you had to breach it.

You'll have to look into exactly how much it'll cost you id say and see if it's worth it for you.

Speak to an employment lawyer. No one here will be of any help.
One thing I'd be fairly sure of is that you can't be forced to work, regardless of a contract. Pure speculation here, but were you to 'retire' before starting the application process that could be a way out.

On another note, giving a 8 year contract to a young fellow (which you presumably were when you signed it) is immoral in the extreme, especially with heavy penalties in the case of non-fulfilment. Absolute joke of a situation you've found yourself in. Most of us are here because we also have had a change of heart. I hope you find a way out. Definitely speak to an employment lawyer anyway.

Nope, your background checks will take you up to the last minute in most cases! Have you met a sgt or super yet?

Garda at my stage 2 said a few garda previously had JLOs etc so you should be okay as long as you stated it in your form b
