Is there any substance to this Virgin Radio stuff that’s being bandied around?

Not heard anything except on here.

Virgin Media don't have the naming rights to Virgin Radio, it's unlikely that Virgin Media would step in to by Nova to rebrand as Virgin Radio, though perhaps they can call it Virgin Media Radio.

Wireless Group own Virgin Radio brand in the UK, they own FM104, LMFM, Limerick Live, C96/103, Q102. AKA News Corp AKA Sky.

John Clarke is leaving Radio Nova three and a half years after he joined to host his Biggest Jukebox show.

An announcement was made on-air this morning by John, saying next Sunday, 17th March, will be his last programme. Management at Radio Nova say his show has fewer listeners today than the slow did when he took it over.

Today was his last live show as next week’s will be prerecorded due to a family engagement.

The former head of 2fm joined Radio Nova on September 27th 2015, bringing the title of his show across with him despite legal objections over use of the name.

Kevin Branigan, CEO at Nova told RadioToday: “It’s about audience numbers, unfortunately. What’s disappointing is that John decided to announce a different reason for the cancellation on air today, one that he knows well is not the full story. None of us are happy with taking the Jukebox off air but the listenership was falling, unfortunately.

“We normally don’t discuss individual cases but, given John’s on-air announcements this morning, I’m happy to set the record straight on the matter.”

Former 2fm presenter Colm Hayes was appointed Programme Director at Radio Nova in May 2017.

Gave up listening to Nova about 2 weeks after Colm and Loosey started on with their shiiite. Just have Pat on now for the 20 minute drive home from work.

Saw this thread pop up on the main page and nice to see the station is still going down the pan. Was nothing better than a lazy Sunday with the missus, doing a few bits and pieces around the house or taking the dogs for a wander and listening to John Clarke.

Colm Hayes is a complete and utter gobshiite

    Fixed that there Kev...
Thats the most factual comment you ever made...its about audience numbers...unfortunately John got caught in the cross-fire....

The show may have less listeners but how much of that is down to the original Nova listenership leaving the station. I would be surprised to see any replacement show doing any better.
Sad day for radio, guess the chances of hearing Iron maiden on a Sunday morning on radio have vastly reduced now.

JC didnt mention Hayes (no surprise there) or Ruth Scott (follow up presenter before Liam Q took over) in his closing link.

No doubt the biggest jukebox replacement will be "cool" TXFM type music on automation or some comedian or presenter/comedian double act will be drafted in.

Another sad day for Irish radio...and obviously as they are part of same radio group..JC won't be going to Sunshine or Classic Hits

The comments of Nova, released today are petty , in the extreme. Figures down , really ? Release them . As for replacement - I shudder to think

What did he say to suggest a “different reason for the cancellation on air today, one that he knows well is not the full story.“?

Bye Bye Nova, you're now no different from the other commercial stations

Wonder will the name "Biggest Jukebox" stay with Nova, just like with Friday Night 80s. Branners got Tim Kelly and the show name and then a short time later, Kelly was dropped and the show stayed.

I now only listen to 7 hours of Nova a week - TA and PJ. And 4 hours of that is on the digital channel. My day to day station is now Planet Rock.

Brannigan&Hayes will be first against the wall when my revolution comes lol

    Edit

Just wondering will there be another unfair dismissal case, just like with Sinead?

Loosely and Miller's kids no doubt....

The Jukebox is going to be replaced by ' the Colm and Loosey ' 2nd best bits. If you missed it during the week, you can catch up with all the bits that couldn't make it onto the best bits.

I think John's show was the last one that actually played music. Tuned in about 4/5 times during the weekend, ads and ads and more ads (mostly about Colm and Loosey and the rest about how great Nova is). Nova is having its death rattle.

We only have ourselves to blame...Hayes is a big boards fan and regularly visits to see what we're saying about him....its been a bit quiet lately so he needed to do something controversial to keep this thread at the top, ...sorry John...:o

Wonder if we'll hear Larry Gogan on sunday mornings....:D

only reason i listened to nova these days was for the Jukebox

surely the morning show is on borrowed time if it's down to listening figures?

A lot of jc's listeners followed him from various other stations so will have no reason to stay with nova now. Did the powers that be even consider that? I'm down to 2 shows a week now Courtney and Gaughran who Id say might be rattling in their boots at the new regime.

Yep, used to listen to quite a bit of Nova, herself was living in Dublin at the time and would always throw it on the car radio as soon as I was close enough and was delighted when the Jukebox was resurrected a few years back. Would also listen then online too quite a bit.
Then the decline started and Pat James and the Jukebox were the only ones worth tuning in for.

Now I have no reason whatsoever to listen to Nova, nor will I. Bad doesn't come close, Nova is atrocious at the moment.

The article on RadioToday has been updated with an audio clip from John's link where he explained the reason for the show's end...

Interesting choice of words and the people he thanked, or didn't thank.

Be afraid..be very afraid....they've already fcuked Greg/PJ/MM etc around..and now JC , no reason he wont do the same to PC....

This sums Hayes "vision" up nicely......
