I heard Idris Elba mentioned a while back before Craig signed on for another film, I reckon he would make a good Bond. He can pull off the suave Englishman thing but he's tough enough looking that it wouldn't be silly seeing him bash heads.

too old. He would have been excellent ten years ago though

I don't think so. James Bond is Fictional. He can be whatever one wants him to be really? Just because bond was created in the 50's doesn't mean he has to stay there.

but that's his character. imagine trying to make the below characters white

    Axel Foley
    Apollo Creed
    Red from Shawshank
    Jules from Pulp Fiction

all "Fictional" but they're all definitely black in a remake

Doesnt matter who plays him now, they stopped being Bond films some time ago, once they cast somebody that can somehow suck all the fun and mischief out of the genre even further.

Tom Hiddleston would make a decent Bond too. Given, he might be just a bit too young for it.

if they go a new direction with the character it could work. thought they were going for a woman or a black guy next time?

    Good God I hope not.

That populist schick was deployed with Ghostbusters 2016 and that was a total laughable disaster.

All the actors who played James Bond have been over 6 ft with the exception of Daniel Craig (5'11).

IMO Cillian Murphy is just too small at 5'9.

I do see your point but keeping Bond the same character is getting boring.

ridiculous to have a Black Bond IMO

then there will need to be a Hispanic Bond, Asian Bond, Female Bond.

Bond is White. what's the big deal?

this isn't an episode of Barney the Dinosaur

He's also been played by English, Scottish and Irish actors. I don't see the problem here as long as the character at it's core remains the same.

Wasn't Red from Shawshank a white Redheaded Irishman in the original short story? Hence the name Red?

    Core Values of Bond:
Has to be easy on the eye to warrant all the ladies
Big and tough enough looking to whopp a$$ at the drop of a hat
    Look daycent in a suits
Be able to handle the sauce

If they went back in time and made the movies more slap stick type where bond fights 15 guys and comes out with a scratch or a hair out of place then they could pick anybody really

If they continue with the current vibe - copying the Bourne franchinse - then they need a specific type.

Maybe a Tom Hardy type (Although he was absolutely terrible in an absolutely terrible movie Venom)
I doubt he would sign up to knowing he would be bond for the next 15 years but may be an interim bond until they find the right guy for the long haul.

I think that's where the "maybe it's cause I'm Irish" comes from

Yeah, it was a good while back that I heard this. He'll always be Stringer Bell to me.

Would you have ever noticed Stallone is a mere 5' 9½"? Admittedly muscular but amazing what the right camera angles and a pair of platform shoes can do. I never thought any of his action roles suffered because of his stature, poor acting and script, yes.

a transgender, black, differently abled James Bond.

    That'd work

    Could do.

I've always thought you could stick a woman into a remake of diehard or a bond movie and it could work. You'd need the right actor, director and script. Unfortunately hollywood would probably go for Melissa Mccarthy.

For example, the problem with the ghostbusters remake wasn't that there were women in the roles, it's that it was a mediocre script to start with.

Yea but Tom is the first to play the character. Bonds have always been tall, masculine type.

Bond could be any race at all. The key thing about bond is that he's british. It would be silly to have a bond who wasn't british. can you imagine some guy in a chinese accent asking for a vodka martini.

Well that's embarassing. Red was an older Irishman in the book, it was felt that Morgan Freeman was perfect for the role so the character became black. And is now apparently an indelibly black character :D might want to take that one off your list...

Murphy is small but he's intense physically, saw him onstage last year and he seems like a tank even though you know he's not. He good be good as Bond and he'd be great as a villain. Signing up as Bond is basically signing up to do very little else for several years though, I don't know if that'd suit.

Beverly Hills Cop was originally mooted as a Stallone vehicle, scripts get rejigged all the time to suit recasting, characters are malleable.

IF you're saying Tom Cruise could play bond can I point you in the direction of far and Away. After that assault on an Irish accent, I don't think he should try an english one :D

James Norton would be my choice, he already was a bit bondlike in McMafia

A pint sized Pacino pulled off Scarface, the right actor can achieve lots.

Michael Fassbender will be the next bond.

    A fantastic choice imo.

He's too old. When they're picking a Bond they want someone who can do at least 3 or 4 movies. Say 10 years.

Cillian would be at least 45 in Bond 26. And he looks his age, he has a weird kinda old/unhealthy look to him. He could pull it off once but you'd never get 10 years out of him, he'll look like an old granny by the third or fourth movie.

Another decent shout would be Sam Heughan, the guy from Outlander.
He was in a pretty dodgy comedy called the spy who dumped me and was actually decent.

For me, James Bond has to be tall - this looks better in a suit. And of course, the Bond girls are never tiny either.

Different for wrestling/fighter films, they can get away with being shorter in height and bigger in build.
