4 girls aged 17

4 girls aged 17 are coming to stay with me for a week this summer. Two of them are my granddaughters. I haven't been around teenagers since their mother was a teenage so I'm not up to date on teenage stuff. I live in Dublin. They are coming from suburbia USA. Do 17 year olds go 'clubbing'? Would it be safe to let them out at night in Dublin? I could drop them off and pick them up but they certainly would want me to be hanging around. Perhaps 17 year olds are not allowed in clubs, I'm so not up to date I'm not even sure what the legal age for drinking is in Ireland, 18 I suppose.
Any insight would be very much appreciated.

Posting this in After Hours is only asking for trouble!

It's not a wind up! It's not unusual for grandchildren to visit their grandmother. I just wish they were much younger, it would be much easier to entertain them and I wouldn't be worried about keeping them safe while they are with me.

I'd ask their parents about their habits in the US, and what they think is acceptable with different and more lax laws here.

drinking age is 21 in the US, so tell the Irish ones to keep an eye on their American cousins,

You said you are unsure about legal age to drink but you are a grandmother!
    I call bull****!

You wont have to entertain them, they'll be too busy posing for Instagram shots.

Post some pics OP, that way if we see them wandering around Dublin lost or drunk, we'll be able to help them out, yaknow?

On the plus side 17 girls aged 4 would be worse.

Send them to the Gaeltacht. Sit back, relax and they will have a ball and will be someone else’s resbonsibility.

Dilema: how to post a jokey comment in this thread without coming across as too rapey.

Give them plenty of Johnnie's, don't want them to go back pregnant

OMG. I'm the grandmother not the mother! I don't hangout with teenagers everybody I know is over 60!! I never think about stuff like that normally.

You seem to know a fair bit about technology from your previous posts

I've legally changed my name to 'The Luas' for occasions just like this.

I think they'll be ok. I'll give them my high powered air gun and mace spray that I like to have with me in Dublin after dark.
