    Justice might be finally done.

Article says they'll be informed in a couple of weeks. Kerfuffle about nothing for now. Could almost say.... fake news.

This is not aimed at you OP but the term 'veteran' grates on me at the best of times, especially in this context.

Ex-servicemen is an improvement, but why not just say what they are? Former soldiers.

Bad timing if it pisses the DUP off as it will.

(the OP simply transcribed the headline)

If the guns ,of elite troops, were turned in such a violent way against the citizens of London , or the citizens of Glasgow,or Liverpool , or Birmingham, or Cardiff ,or any other urban centre in the U.K. ... against folks (kids in a lot of cases) on a civil rights march...

Well, would the good folks of those cities expect an account to be given from their authorities?

Or would they support, Instead, a leading headline... which basically suggests that "our veterans are being picked on"..... for firing on unarmed protesters (kids)?

How many were shot in the back?

Isn't that why these families have waited for justice for almost 50 years? Let's not annoy a few unionists.

I could never understand why the soldiers opened up fire on innocent people without provacation. That would be unlike the ultra regimented British Army.

Something must have sparked that day.

This might help. 'ultra regimented British Army' indeed.

The British public has always expected its soldiers to behave with absolute honour at all times but in the past has turned a blind eye to some of the
less savoury aspects of war. Today’s public and media are less lenient and
are quick to condemn when evidence of any apparently unnecessary
violence comes to light. Cicero’s ‘inter arma silent leges’ of 52 BC [in war, the
law is silent], the unwritten rule of ‘combat immunity’, is no longer sufficient defence as soldiers are being called to account for many acts of aggression. By February 2005, the British Military Police were investigating
137 incidents of alleged war crimes by British soldiers in Iraq and several
soldiers have subsequently been convicted. The Secretary of State for
Defence recently called on the British people to ‘be slower to condemn and
quicker to understand’ yet there have been few concerted efforts to try to
determine why individual soldiers might use force illegally. Therefore, the
purpose of this article is to try to understand why professional soldiers
commit these acts of ‘personal violence’ even though they have been
trained to control the application of force and are fully aware of the Laws of
    Armed Conflict.

I saw a clip of a Bloody Sunday march in Londonderry recently. Full of berets and provo looking bands. Is there different factions at play here within republican circles?

I didn’t think the victims families wanted to be associated with this but it obviously I was wrong.

Families are split. There is no majority on either side as actual families have split on it. Some march some don't. Republican bands march as IRSP, Saoradh and Eirigi have aligned RFBs who will march it.

The families asked that 2011 was last march but tjen support the march again.

How pathetic is that? Are you telling me what I have to refer to Londonderry, derry, doire or stroke city? Are you high up in the thought police?

I'm not telling you to refer to it as anything. I'm just saying I corrected it.

About as pathetic as coming on to an .ie website and typing stuff deliberately for the reaction you knew you'd get.

I think it’s slightly weird that they keep harping on about civilians as a full republican band with berets and sunglasses walks past in the back ground in Londonderry.

(You see I can correct things too)

I’m far from a new poster on here. I actually live in NI too. And actually in County Londonderry. I refer to the city mostly as Londonderry. I don’t start a hissy fit when others refer to it as derry or doire or anything else. I wld like the same courtesy. It’s really a non issue. This whole Ireland of equals thing doesn’t seem to working out that well in practise.

Oh it's working perfectly. You will be answering to Dublin within 10 years. Your as equal as I am, obviously more so of a mongrel but we accept everyone.

I’m not disputing that. I’m saying it’s weird that a beret wearing republican band is walking past in the background as the relative speaks. It’s almost like an Alan partridge sketch.

I have no issue with what you call it, attention seeker's will always want attention.

I was pointing out the irony in getting upset about being called out on the attention seeking.

Perhaps this thread might wonder off now on s tangent as to how the city should be called, rather than discussing the murders of unarmed civilians, who had the cheek and audacity to march for their civil rights, maybe that will be mission accomplished for you?

Lol. The true face of Irish republicanism shows it’s face quite quickly. Don’t put all your money on your assumption as poverty is a killer. (In fact go ahead.. ha)

I think you'll find that the band members are probably civilians too, mad isnt it?

I was not the one or ones who questioned the name of the city. I find it strange that others start whinging about my reference though. It’s not as if I will change my mind as to what I refer to a place very close geographically to me. It shouldn’t go off in a tangent. I accept others calling it derry and don’t whinge about it. I just expect the same for me.

    No you don't.

Really? Are you seriously telling me where I live now? This is just getting weird now...
