I looked this up last year October and from what I remember the clocks are going back in October this year

Good. Damn clocks coming over here and stealing our jobs and out using as a welfare charity!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Hang on. Does that mean that when the clocks go back on 31st October they will stay like that? Because that's not what I was hoping for. I thought they were going to stick with summer time? I HATE it with a passion when the clocks go back and it's all dark and dreary :(

Mornings would be darker for longer and evenings a bit brighter in winter. But it's the dark mornings I hate more.

Forward and back as per normal, then that's it. No changes at all next year (winter time is normal time - as in GMT for us - it's only in summer that it changes).

If they moved forward and stayed there, GMT would move to CET, and CET would move to EET (east european time).

NB - this is, as far as I know, still at the proposal stage and not confirmed.

What if we ditch summer/winter time and the UK doesn't.

Does that mean we could nip across the border for a last pint before closing time?
Brexit or no Brexit, I would imagine the UK will follow suit for the same reasons others want to drop the time changes.

I would rather it keep changing than keep GMT year round. I was hoping they were gonna keep summer time/CET year round.
Will be interesting to see what Britain does if this goes ahead.

The plan is (as far as I know) to go to summertime and never change back to winter time.

Can we not just... never go back to winter?!

Clocks going forward is the same weekend as Brexit, so I think the UK will be too busy that weekend to implement a time change.

When though? That is the question!

I think the plan is to change the clocks only once a year instead of twice.

Whatever the European high lords decide is best.

They reckon we will be busy enough erecting a hard border (that nobody in these islands want) for our Masters in Brussels this year. Next year they will want us to be European time, just like they kept us tied to European interest rates (which suited Germany) during our boom.

Assuming that all year round summertime is the chosen option there will be only one clock change on the last Sunday in March in whatever year the new system comes into effect. After that there will be no more clock changes at all.

    So no one knows really.

Brexiteers will laugh out fkn loud at the efficiency of this proposal.

I know it is low on the agenda, but it is a marker all the same.

Why change the clocks at all? I cannot get my head around this. As you will have noticed!

Uh OK maybe a change for year one, and then off we go. Sorry I probably responded too quickly.

Simple solution would be to launch a synthetic sun up in a geostationary orbit,
shinning it's reflective rays of sunjoy upon the entire Eastern side of the Island (from 6am-10am, then 4pm-8pm during winter).
The West rains too much anyway so they can make all the butter and farm stuff over there.

They won't be laughing when the Prime Meridian is moved from London to Paris. That will happen if there is a hard Brexit.

    This is just so confusing.

So is it a once a year change, No change or what?

    And what is the result?

Have to say I am totally baffled now. But that's not unusual for me either.

If it is once a year I hope they make it some sensible time like 12 noon or 6 in the evening. I hate having to get up at 2 in the morning to change my clock.

It will be at 1am. Of that we can be sure.

GMT doesnt really exist anymore, its not used, its UTC and variations of it.
It seems a bit silly for us to change our time relative to the UK who we have a border with, it would be ridiculous. Not sure what the benefits would be, might be better, but NI and really the rest of the UK and Ireland would have to be aligned, whatever is done.

They reckon we will be busy enough erecting a hard border (that nobody in these islands want) for our Masters in Brussels this year. Next year they will want us to be European time, just like they kept us tied to European interest rates (which suited Germany) during our boom.

Looking at a map of Europe, you'd think Western Europe should rightly not be in CET at the least Spain should be in UTC equivalent to what GMT was.
Probably wouldnt be practical for France, but geographically it seems correct, but Spain is divided by a physical geographical barrier from the rest of Europe and juts out as far if not further west than Ireland. It would make sense for Spain as Portugal uses UTC. Most of its connections are going to be by air where time differences can be more easily be dealt with by airline businesses.

Its already been there in the past, Europe can move what they want in name, but the Prime Meridian is set, it would create more confusion and hassle and I guess thats why legacy systems and conventions exist, because it would be too much inconvenience to change them and could lead to creating hazards and increasing risks.

    This is just so confusing.

If it changes only once a year that will cause some problems, probably end up getting rid of the whole system of hour forward/back eventually, but we will still be an hour after CET, we bloody better or I'll feel like Im getting out of bed an hour too early. Thats a joke, like when they changed calenders somewhere in the late middle ages, there was a kind of horror that time was being stolen from peoples lives, I think they lost days to go from the Julian to the Gregorian Calender, when in fact it was just aligning correctly with the actual time corrected for errors. In other words, it will have no effect on anyone's lives, especially as if they do this, there will be less change and people will just get used to it.

Spain changed to the same time zone as Germany because Franco wanted to keep Hitler happy. There is much debate there about changing back.

The further south you are the less important the timezone becomes as the difference between sunrise in summer and winter is less than in the northern countries.

For Spain (& France for that matter) it makes more sense to be in the same Timezone as their longitude dictates, but they seem to prefer to have darker mornings and later light in the evenings.

the Brits will be living in a Mad Max style dystopia by this time next year, they won't need clocks.

Are the clocks going back ?

It all depends on which side of the border you are on.
