Pope Francis offered $1m charity donation to go vegan for Lent

Is there anything that can't be bought?
Matthew Glover, CEO of Million Dollar Vegan and who co-founded the Veganuary campaign, said the Pope had been selected for his environmental leadership and influence...

The $1m has been donated by the Blue Horizon International Foundation, the charitable arm of the Blue Horizon Corporation, which invests in companies producing plant-based foods and aims to “accelerate the removal of animals from the global food chain”.

Real separation of interests there!. On top of the usual debunked soundbites and propaganda being spewed the fact that they are using a 12 year old child as the front person for this piece of commercial promotion is sick imo

The only good thing out of this is perhaps it will convince a few more people that it's all about the money.

The right arm gives the left arm one million dollars?

Well that's not dodgy at all.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

You're going to have a stroke if you keep thinking about vegans every minute of every day.

Edit: Btw I had cut you some slack as you a relatively new poster but that was a damn ignorant comment. My post was about commercial interests hijacking a diet choice...
And not about fracking 'vegans' The rest stands ...

Play the ball or not at all lol ..;)
Pointing out rubbish propaganda?; that's not really too hard now is it ...

It was meant in jest. No offence meant.

I don't know how drawing attention to any propaganda is going to help your cause though. Most people would never have heard about this if you didn't start a thread.

Why do the climate change/vegan activists keep using children as their pawns? Extremely off putting to their cause.

Surely goes against their teachings eh??

    The body of Christ...vegan alternative!

    The blood of Christ...vegan alternative!

No worries and no cause unlike the bunch pushing this stuff'. It was all over the News when I got up this morning. Like the debunked EAT report from only last week. So yeah most people probably will have heard about it ...

It's a fantastic idea from a marketing of veganism perspective.

Puts the pope under pressure to accept to donate the money to worthy causes etc and if he does, the result might be that many practicing Catholics begin to give us meat for lent in the same manner that they used to give us sweets. And if they manage to prove to themselves that it's achievable, and that they even feel better for it, then that's a big score for veganism.

    Jesus, how narcissistic is that?

In essence, "I, the CEO, have selected the Pope, deeming him important and influential enough to promote our beliefs etc etc....."

Wouldn't be an organisation I'd like to partner up with. Out dated beliefs, shameful covering up, and it's grasp on our culture slowly being removed. Seems more of a match for meat and dairy tbh

    Nonetheless he won't accept

    ....

The thing is that from the article it's big business pushing it. So I guess it is marketing alright ...

You're really obsessed about the veganism thing gozunda. You talk about it more than vegans do.

Are you a farmer by any chance?

A bit personal that. Just dont like bull****e mainly. I never realised there were restrictions on pointing this out. But there you go. There's a poster over in Cool Pics & Videos Forum who only posts pro vegan memes - maybe you'd like to interrogate them perhaps?

As to the rest of the post see this one ...

You are not helping yourself here. Saying you don't have a vested interest in farming would be like Harvey Weinstein saying he is a feminist

    We all see through it

You do know farmers grow crops as well as farm animals yeah? This is not about farmers but you know that.

The Article (which was all over the News today btw!) is about corporate commercial interests pushing plant based food industry agenda. Using cash, children and religion to do so. So are you saying you are in favour of this? Interesting...

Whatever this stunt is it stinks to high heaven (bad pun - I know)

Oh for the days you could simply point out a story like this and not get savaged by a small selection of irate foodists ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,115 ✭✭✭Unearthly

Well I don't like the Catholic church, however if a million goes to charity then I don't see the harm in it.

Yes it's a form of marketing and awareness, but a million going to charity is better than a million going to a tv station or any other form of marketing

Nothing to get your knickers in a twist about really

It's a big corporation making a significant donation to a charity and utilising a public figure's visibility to push an agenda yes. So it's that aspect of it, not veganism, which you're definitely no way OBSESSED with, that bugs you?

If so I've got some bad news for you, that happens all over the world, pretty much every day. You'll have to get annoyed about all of the instances now too.

    I can read bbs.

Linking to a "haters gon hate lol" post doesn't answer the question, what aspect of this story, out of all stories of agenda driven sponsorship particularly bugs you that it's the one out of thousands you were compelled to highlight it? Does it start with v, end with m and seem to consume most of your waking hours?

    So go vegan for Lent?

It's actually sort of fitting if you ask me. Lent a time when you should fast and deny yourself of luxuries. It's like these vegans actually admitting that their diet is a form of self punishment. :D

But then there is the whole bribing the Pope to do something.... Now that's got to be a fast route to hell.... (If you believe in such things)

Great idea linking up with the head of an organisation that engaged in staggering amounts of child sexual abuse. Just confirms to me that some things like the church should be avoided.

It would preclude him from taking communion for Lent though?

Since he's the head of an organisation that *literally* believes a piece of unleavened bread becomes human flesh after a few magic words are spoken and all...

    Isn't it not just symbolic?

You don't believe that the priest think's he turns a wafer into flesh, seriously it's just symbolic.

    It's a magic show.
