Developed from a cold bank of air over the Canadian Maritimes, which in itself originated over the greater Baffin region. Note how quickly it warmed as it crossed the Atlantic. Nothing new of course but doubtlessly, would have warmed quicker than it normally would, given the current warm state of the entire N. Atlantic region at the moment:



Note also how quickly the cool, stagnant air mass over Ireland/UK and the NE Atlantic warmed as this system approached. This doubtless was helped in no small part by the warmer than average SST's over this greater region, which would have help raise DPs and 'Wet bulb' temps to levels that would be outside of the norm for such a set up. So basically, we really hadn't a hope today of seeing anything substantial.

Just to add another point. the 'Climate Reanalyzer' final January 2019 stats for the Arctic region N of 65 degree north are in, and no one will be surprised to learn that January temps this decade in this greater Arctic region (the source of all our PM air masses) have risen by 0.6c, on average, since those during the previous decade, which in itself was way warmer than the climate norm.

Closer to home, despite our cool blip at the end of this month, mean temperatures for the month of January will come in at 1.0 Deg. C or greater above the long term mean.

Cork: not expecting anything more out of the ordinary for the cork metropolitan area. yes - there might be a few light sleet / snow showers but there's not enough there to cause any disruption / discussion in my opinion.

Back to normal temps next week too...
