It is a fair point though, did anyone try to place blame on the Stardust victims for being drunk which they most probably were given they were in a nightclub?

It's not a fair point. The fire exits in the Stardust were chained shut. Plus the Stardust victims didn't have the added responsibility of minding children on the night they died. Sickening comparison tbh but I would expect nothing less from the enablers of these people's behaviour.
Holy fcuk!! I have that poster blocked (and with very good reason) so only see their posts when they’re quoted.

That is an utterly repugnant comparison to make. Absolutely disgusting. Sadly, I would expect nothing less from such a person though.

Sorry about that... It does demonstrate what type of repugnant individuals leap to the defence of the indefensible.

No need to apologise at all Plumb.

The posters who should be apologising are those who are too busy defending and deflecting on behalf of the lowest scum of the lowest scum.

    Rancid cretins.

Party members who don't play the anti-Traveller card won't get re-elected, particularly in South County Dublin.

Very few people will vote for a politician who is trying to increase the number of travellers in their area. That's the reality, irrespective of the party spin.

I wouldn't vote for a politician who had a good word to say about travellers, nevermind try and increase the traveller population in my area

I'm in the exact same boat as you. It was one of the stupidest things I've seen written on this site.

To be fair to the poster they weren't the one to make the comparison first. John Connors made the comparison and some traveller campaigner made it also. It's ridiculous but that poster didn't do it first

None currently. I believe the personal injury specialists would object to it as it would result in a downturn or near collapse of their business.

Margaret has a picture post up

"My life. My choices. My problems. My mistakes. My Lessons. Not your business. Mind your own problems before you talk about mine. My life is not your story to tell"

Might be well and good if she isn't 100% dependent on the taxpayers for her lifestyle

Well, her life has become our business when she goes to the press to tell her story.

I wonder has she any tips on how to get car insurance.

I'm driving since 2001, full no claims but as I had a trade policy and going to private even though this policy included private and in my own name I can't get insurance.

I'm only able to get quotes as a no experience driver.

    Of course she can

'BETTER THAN NOTHING' Mother-of-seven Margaret Cash grateful to have roof over head as family move into apartment – but dreads four Luas trips a day when kids go back to school

The family, who made headlines last week after Margaret's six sons were forced to sleep in a garda station, have moved into a spacious three-bedroom apartment on Parnell Street in Dublin’s north inner city

I can’t be complaining really, because it’s definitely better than nothing, but it’s still not a home forever.

“I have it for a week’s trial and then it’s on a monthly basis after that. There’s loads of room anyway.”

“But it’s not a home forever — who knows how long we could be here and when we have to move again?

I’d rather be in Tallaght, but this will do for now.”

    https://www.thesun.ie/news/2998020/margaret-cash-grateful-apartment-luas-trips-school/

Go back to last week then

Homeless mum-of-seven Margaret Cash 'over the moon' with new three-bed house - but says it's not a 'forever home'

However the mum-of-seven has expressed her delight after she was finally allocated a three-bedroom house in her hometown of Tallaght, although she revealed that they haven't yet moved in.

She said: "I am over the moon.

"It's still a type of emergency accommodation but it's a house, a three-bed house which is what I told the council all along I wanted.

"It's still not our forever home but it's a house."

Can't please Margaret at all until she gets her forever home in Tallaght

You are one of our problems, Margaret. You, and others like you, who feel entitled to have numerous kids you can't support, never work a day in your life, disregard the law, and then rant on about how "de gubbermint" isn't handing you everything you want on a silver platter.

The money and the benefits and the free house you want doesn't come from "de gubbermint." They come from the pockets of hard-pressed working taxpayers, many of whom can't afford children or homes of their own, in part because of the "choices" that you, and others like you, are making.

On the eve of the funerals of four young men in Donegal, the Irish Times published an opinion piece on the culture of speeding and youth in Donegal, condemning it in the strongest terms and using the photos of the four dead men. Obviously the cause of this crash hasn't been released.
The cause of the carrickmines fire was released and there was nothing but hand wringing and excuses made for traveller culture by the papers. Why are travellers always absolved from all responsibility but no other group is.

“, a three-bed house which is what I told the council all along I wanted.“

What a neck. Can I just rock up to the council and demand a house of my desire?

That's still not good enough for her as it's "not our forever home"

The way things are going it will be workers with zero rights and thieving backstards will have it all......

Wait a minute it's already like this but can you imagine in 50 years how bad it's going to be with what's happening now....

One of the things I struggle to comprehend is how successive taoisigh and ministers for finance either haven't realised, or have simply ignored the fact that eventually we will run out of workers to pay for the non-productive, in the same way the pension schemes ran aground - the main difference being that most people who qualified for a pension actually contributed to it at some stage.

I’ve been reading the thread on and off as it has been a front-pager for months now. Believe it or not, you can read threads without commenting. Usually perennial front-page threads are of a different nature. It’s unusual for a thread on a particular news story to do so. It’s not outlandish to comment on that.

Anyway, are you the arbiter of what passes for a quality post on this thread? What qualifications are needed for that job?
I can't believe you don't know how to unfollow a thread or ignore a thread you disagree with

What’s wrong with commenting on and questioning a thread’s longevity? Can you not take your own advice and ignore posts that don’t interest you? Why the defensiveness?

    No not at all

I do find it funny when people's first contributions are basically to just want to shut down the thread

So we have you, tatranska, Vicarious Function, Babooshka and various others just pop up 'questioning the longevity of the thread', the thread title or wanting the thread closed

Plenty of time left to run in this story and plenty left to say until Margaret gets her forever home

The dramatics. ‘Shut down’ and ‘shout down’ have to be the most overused phrases on boards.ie. Some delicate questioning by two users and suddenly we want the thread closed down? I’ve no doubt it will keep rumbling on and I have very little power in getting threads closed nor would it be something I’d bother to seek very often. Another user and I are just wondering what more could be said at this stage. Very mild criticism. Very mild.

I have to say, I often find the deployment of the terms ‘shut down’ and ‘shout down’ to be a sly silencing tactic in itself.
