Conditions were so bad on the night, so maybe it's being too harsh on hennelly for the couple of handling errors (the soloing of course can't really be excused that easily ). Would be harsh to discard him on the back of Saturday.

I would agree re being harsh on Hennelly but there were lads struggling to solo out the field as well. What I would say is that Clarke would probably have just booted the ball away rather than even trying to solo it.

I wouldn't discard him either until there's an alternative. I'm not sure who's getting looked at but there's nobody screaming out from Club football. Any alternatives seem to be offered more in hope than anything else.

It doesn't matter how many scored we get from kickouts if every time a high ball goes into our square we look like conceding a goal.
Primary job - keep the ball out of the net

We seemed to do alright with Clarke in goals the last few years.
If it is a case that Hennelly is preferred and is not just getting gametime then it is absolutely madness

I recall Clarke getting MOTM in the last league meeting between Roscommon Mayo because he made a number of one one saves. On Saturday night that Hennelly error 1st half could have cost Mayo the game as remember it was game only won by a point.

Won't surprise me if Clarke starts against Tyrone next Sunday.

Has mr Smith got away with the eye gouge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,070 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Nothing offical, just a few stories saying 4C's will be looking into it

    https://www.the42.ie/tony-kelly-red-sheedy-moloney-clare-tipperary-4462920-Jan2019/?amp=1/

"Referee Barry Cassidy did not sanction Smith, meaning the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) can take action.

But Smith may not be looking at a lengthy ban, given Philly McMahon missed just one game after a similar incident in 2015."

Out of interest what handling errors had he besides the solo?

You mightn't want to risk it but Bus Eireann and Irish Rail are usually decent when it comes to using a ticket from a similar distance in my experience. I've had to do it a few times, never any bother.

One match ban for Donie Smith.

Good the precedent has been set now, so let the free for all begin.

Precedent had already been set with Philly.

Ok then, what could they have charged him with that would have facilitated a longer ban?

Nothing obviously, sticking your fingers into a lads eye is just part of the game now. He could only possibly have damaged his eye, but as you said, thats ok then.

Not clear cut that fingers go in the eye. Higgins can count his blessing the headbutt or attempted headbutt was clearly ignored. Should have got a ban too.

Precedent was set with Philly McMahon, one match ban he got for doing the same thing.

It was clear cut, he didn't have to take Higgins' eye out to show intent. He knew what he was at. Take off the Rossie tinted glasses.

Ya I knew that, but now its fully confirmed that eye gouging will at most get 1 match then its cool :)

No clear cut sign of any head butt, so he was never going to get a ban. And with most people, if anyone tried to stick their fingers into your eye you'd make them eat their teeth too.

At no point does his finger go into Higgins eye.

A headbutt or attempted headbutt regardless of what happened before hand has just been ignored.

So let me get this straight...

You don't think Smith did anything wrong and Higgins should have got a ban instead.

    Wow.
