    You should buy some Heatballs.

With a 95% energy efficiency rating they are perfect if you need to make your room just a little warmer.

    I'm assuming you're being sarcastic.

However if your not , Pete's of Parnell Street closed in 2013.
You also should think about buying a new price of string to hold up your pants.

You assume correctly...on the first count.

We're doing well to get 12 months out of the new bulbs. We ended going back to the traditional bulbs when the newer ones blew and we're getting well over 18 months out of them.

The savings in electricity is more than taken up by the costs of replacing expensive bulbs, for us anyway.

CT Electric on Sean Mulvoy Rd has them

Peats , the pirates of Parnell Street.

Still better value than Maplin though.

Talking of LEDs, anybody happy with the new streetlights in Dublin? Seems like a very cold white colour to me.

New ones on the North side of Cork are horrible. Not bright enough and awful cold light. Very hard to spot pedestrians in this light.

LED lamps should also have an extremly long life, or would have if it wasn't for the bastard manufacturers building in a life shortening "feature".

Planned obsolescence is a real pain.

I'd be checking the wiring if you are blowing bulbs that often, there is something wrong that's causing the bulbs to blow.

It's worse when driving in fog. The old sodium discharge lights gave a yellow light and you could see relatively well in fog, now you are driving into fog with overhead white light making it nearly impossible to see.

Check the post above this, they're made to fail!

We have done, nothing out of the ordinary showing up.

Well, nothing other than a small mortgage to replace bulbs every few weeks. Two different electricians looked and found nothing.

Nothing is made to fail. Everything has a design life and for led and energy saving bulbs it's multiples of an incandescent bulb. If they are failing regularly then there's something wrong with the place they are fitted, not multiple bulbs.

Please look at the video I posted above and review, the design life is another way of saying they're made to fail after a certain amount of time.

Incandescent bulbs also had a designed life expectancy - designed to fail. I have LED bayonet fit light bulbs in constant use for years now. The average life is close to 10 years.

    Edit. Check out Phoebus cartel

In fairness, Peterson's in Dun Laoghaire is the place for light and lighting accessories.

    Bollocks to that

In my day we used to dip reeds in animal fat.

Ah, yeah I remember them. Used to sell them in Peats on Parnell St....

FWIW, when i'm painting (walls etc.) I'm much prefer an incandescent to a LED. You do not get 100% CRI with an LED bulb.

    Holy F*ckballs

Replacing a fusable resistor with a piece of wire .

Do you want a fire ?

Because that's how you get a fire.

8:37 minutes at minimum wage is €1.40.
Dealz sell LED bulbs for €1.50

Fix the ventilation on the housing to solve the real problem.

At the very least replace the component with one of the same rating.

You've got a dodgy appliance somewhere in the house..I found an electric kettle was doing something similar, using too much electricity due to a loose wire in the plug.

That is not a fusable resistor, it is an underrated resistor that shortens the life of the lamp, if there was a fault it would have gone bang when he bypassed it!
