Instead of asking such a wide question - you're better off looking at cars at various sales sites and then checking on boards if the particular garage is recommended to deal with.

Just starting to look myself, however a lot of smaller non franchise dealers seem to have a lot of cars without an mot like a year or more out of date not sure where these cars are coming from.

If you’re checking them on the uk mot checker, they won’t show if they were MOTd in NI, even if they have a regular mainland UK reg number.

It's possible to call the mot centre it was tested at and used to be able to call dvla not sure if you still can i done this for a car for the missus as the hpi check had no mileage on it at all
