Well we are going to need a lot more direct Provision centers in the future as Coveney says here, he is looking for a lot more Africans coming in.

"I happen to be somebody who is quite liberal on immigration. I believe that Ireland has been enhanced significantly by the fact that so many people who were not born in Ireland are now part of our society and economy, but of course we need to also ensure that we can manage the numbers that are being welcomed and that they can integrate appropriately.

We estimate over the next 20 years that the population of Ireland will certainly grow by an extra million people. Linked to that estimate is that half of that number won't have been born in Ireland. I think that will be a really good thing for Irish society but we do need to manage it carefully so we don't allow the politics of migration to play a big part in Irish politics because I think it pulls us down a dangerous direction."

-Minister Simon, Coveney on November the 27th, 2018

Seen posters make this nonsense claim before. That level of population growth is normal(we've had similar in past twenty years) and nothing to do with one million immigrants or asylum seekers. Bit bizarre that you respond with racist crap after a potential act of arson.

I don’t condone the arson if that’s what it is but I’m not one bit surprised.

Huge amounts of ppl are absolutely sickened and disgusted by this open door policy the govt is determined to operate. Maybe slowly slowly something will change.

But that depends on ppl turning away from all the major parties who won’t change anything.

Define “Huge amounts of ppl” please. Be specific if you don’t mind.

8% to 10% in the case of Roosky.

    Agree with arson, do you?

The people of that town have the right to be against such things. But they were never asked, the decision was taken for them. You can call them racist or whatever but it's still their right to decide what goes and what doesn't go in their town. Their decision may be wrong, but in the end it's their decision.

Usual brain dead waffle from Charlie Flanagan on RTÉ just now regarding the fire.

Absolute scutter. Sorry sorry- verbal diarrhea.

Predictable from Coleman and Cuddihy on Newstalk, usual hypocrisy accustations, the Irish went everywhere in the world but don't want anyone coming here etc etc.

Cuddihy re the Moville fire..."you can be guaranteed if you asked the people of the Inishowen peninsula if they wanted an amnesty for the illegal Irish in America they'd all say yes"...has he done a poll?.
The Irish illegals took a chance, if they're caught I have no sympathy, USA , their country, their rules. Doesn't mean we have to take in anyone from anywhere in the world.
Charlie Flanagan was preaching the usual line that these asylum seekers are people fleeing war, who have lost everything. A high percentage are from Albania, no war there.
Lots of young lads coming from West Africa , places like Gambia, a holiday destination. Pakistan and Nigeria are huge countries with lots of safe areas.

    No, it's not really.
It's up to the owners & planners what goes on in that hotel.
Locals may think they have a right to decide what happens, but they don't.

I’d agree they deserve to be consulted but you don’t torch buildings to get your way.

Presuming of course, the fire was malicious.

Planners don't get a say either. DoJ officials sort out these places.
And fine, if locals don't have a right to have an input into what goes on in their own locality, I'll expect more of these actions so.

I never said that setting the place on fire is the way to go. But it shouldn't come as a surprise second time around either.

It really goes to show the level of desperation and utter frustration ppl have. Frightening the disconnect between govt and ppl but not surprising if ppl are completely sidelined and ignored.

Do they own the town or something?

Pretty sure the locals wouldn't view an arsonist in a positive way...

Collectively, yes, they do. People own the state, people are the state, not the other way around.

I'm sure if ye live in a location you should have some input into what goes into it. After all its not a new suggestion, Josepha Madigan and Catherine Byrne both FG govt junior ministers have previously and successfully decided who came into their localities.

    Whats good for the goose....

An 8% or 10% increase for doctors, classrooms etc is a fair old rise.

This is a wake up call to the govt to seriously change tack with the open door policy. Call me cynical but Won’t hold my breath.

I'm quite sure that no sane person views arsonists in a positive way. I'm also sure that some people, while being rightfully upset by what happened, are also a bit relieved that no one was hurt and hoping that the centre will not go ahead.

Well, yes,if people live in a town then they have more right than anyone outside the town to a say in what happens.

The local police station may be unmanned for a lot of the time and lets face it a lot of these men coming have no records so we dont know if they pose a risk to the locals and particularly the local young women.

As I said these small towns are chosen because politicans are forced by the EU to take these illegal immigrants and thats what they are, they are healthy young men looking very well fed and beaming on those boats. They are not welcome in Ireland by most people in spite of the media and the NGOS portraying them as some sort of refugees who need our help. They should be towed back to Libya as in to hell or to Libya, even if the majority of people in this country wanted to offer them homes we just dont have the resources to do that. The best we can do is pick out small towns in remote regions of the country where it rains seven days of the week and is dark at 4 PM for most of the year. There are no employment opportunities, very little social life unless you drink, the young women are independent and wont be interested in refugees who are stuck in direct provision with presumably curfews operating, this sort of policy is a disaster in the main and these men think by paying to get on thoose boats that they are going to be housed at someone elses cost in big cities with enough money handed to them to live on along with a free apartment.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the doctors and teachers torched the hotel then.
