Oh look, whoever is in charge of the Renua Twitter should be fired. Seems like it was just a tweet off the top of someone's head. Gives the impression of a party that is being run by one man in his shed.

    It is. Literally.

Very heated conversation on nurse pay rates and potential success from striking.

Shane Coleman arguing they don't/won't get a rise. Ciara making the somewhat valid point that there is demand for nurses, ergo, they need to be attracted somehow.

The average nurse income of 57K does seem high but it seems it is skewed by nursing management staff. I have heard that we have a disproportionally high number of nursing management staff. If so, then is a problem in 2 ways, less nurses on the floor and also it skews just what the earnings are.

I doubt there are that many Nurses in management levels that it so skews the level of pay...there are 14,000 nurses after all.

How hard can it be to put that info out there! But then again, this is the HSE we're talking about so they probably don't have clear info on the wage levels

It's the other way round really. According to wikipedia.
In 2016, the OECD ranked Irish personal taxation as the 2nd most progressive tax system in the OECD, with the top 10% of earners paying 60% of taxes.

    I thought I heard 37k, not 57k.
I just looked it up and it seems to be 37k.

I think they deserve more. I was in hospital for 3 days last year and they work their asses off. Not sure where the money will come from, though.

I must listen back to that part of the show, I was sure they said 57k. Will check it out.

That is not a representative number. It is combination of some people self reporting and of some job advertising. (This is not aimed at you but it annoys me when this sort of a poor data is presented with authority by companies).

Anyway the average is around 57k.

Coleman definitely said 57k. What does this work out at in take home pay though? It annoys the hell out of me when these figures are thrown about. If they said x person takes y amount home at the end of the month, it would make much more sense.

Well it works because it's comparable for many know what their gross annual salary is.
Even within the same role, take home pay can be different as people have different tax credits.

Is it me or does she railroad all the guests with her opinion on every topic, guests usually can't get a word in.

Nurses are nowhere near 57k. I'm married to a nuse with 17 years experience on 46,500 before tax. She will get a small increase at 20 years as your entitled to senior nurse status. This is fact.

INMO secretary was on Ivan Yates this evening and didn't dispute the average wage of €56,400.

I'm not disputing your wives salary but the 'average' seems to be accepted. Probably skewed by nursing staff in managerial roles if it is true but they are still classed as nurses.

If so, it's very difficult if those actually 'nursing' are misrepresented by the figure but if it is true, maybe it indicates we have two many in such roles.

thats still a very good wage. based on 5 days a week thats 178 a day.
asume 30 % tax taken leave 650 roughly a week.

if i wanted to make 178 a day self employed including holidays etc i would need to charge 325

There is no script yet at midday she can announce who her guest is & half a dozen topics being covered.

Back in the days of Gerry Ryan the first call was prearranged from emails but after that the show could go in any direction. If a caller was interesting but had to break for the news they brought the caller back after the news. Topics weren't boxed off in 10 minute slots. Really interesting ones followed onto the next day even.

I really think the show suffers at the hands of the production team

Ciara Kelly is so desperate to become a brand, that she just has to make everything about herself.

Constantly shouting her opinion over the contribution of her guests.

    "Yeah,yeah,I hear ya but ...
    Yeah, yeah,but but...
    Cackle cackle...
    Ok,ok....but..
    Greystones....
    I'm a GP...
    Cackle cackle "

    Vacuous ,egocentric and inept.

Quite the CV for a "down to earth" GP turned presenter.

I thought it was interesting enough segment about the ignorant parking. It's beyond me why council can't tow offending cars and clear the area.

Is she still married ? i know she moved house recently - considering shes left her doctors job and that - maybe shes left other things to - or he left her .

mad how shes just appeared from nowhere - i know its a bit sexist - but amazed how someone with x4 kids can be so self obsessed .
the fact she didnt go on witch hunt against George Hook is the only postive thing i can say about her and i have to say i think she looks good

People complain when she covers active news topics, they complain when she gives listeners the opportunity to discuss something which is of interest to them.

People still complain, and still they listen. Her slot has apparently achieved the highest ratings ever for Newstalk in the 12:00 - 14:00 space so she must be doing something right.

Can I ask how you think she is so self obsessed? She has an opinion, but doesn't everyone hosting a talk show or they wouldn't be in the job?

Someone mentioned Gerry Ryan above, cannot see how Ciara could be considered more opinionated/self obsessed than he was.

The bit about her marriage is insulting.

Yes he was obsessed , but some people still manage to have a warmth to them which she doesnt . Shes trying too hard and it shows . i like to increase my blood pressure listening to her .
You obviously know her if you are taking things so personally. Shes very passive aggressive - have you seen her face on The cutting edge when someone is saying something she doesnt agree with ??

her aggressive / in your face attitude means shes fair game for any comments against her

What makes you think I take things so personally? Cannot I not ask you to explain a point you posted on a discussion board?

Am I to suggest that you obviously know someone working on another station who is upset at her success?

Yes because I have a life not a sad case on boards all the time. Kind of sad how quick you replied to be honest. Is this your only outlet?
