I seem to recall some airlines would have different selections eastbound and westbound on the NAT, but that may just be my imagination, or when memory was very limited on IFE and the selection was much smaller.

EI definitely did this up until August 2016. I can remember being disappointed back then as I thought I could finish watching a film on our way back from New York.

They used to split the pages in Cara for Inbound and Outbound but a very quick check of online editions shows that the more recent ones with a two page film listing has no such specification; and the latest ones are on a single page. Probably a case that it wasn't worth the small, if any, cost difference of licencing to do it seeing as the storage had to be there for both sets anyway - and the risk of the swap being missed by the crew also.

Anyone know where ei-gaj is gone today ?

A very good question as the flight number is 2148, 2 normally means an extra flight and its even numbered so is a eastbound, 148 is not a mainline flight number so is positioning somewhere

    I'd say Ostrava

Would be very soon for a repaint. Only delivered less than 2 years ago.

Yes but I would assume repaints will be done as and when they're due to be. Could be wrong though.

Very soon for a C/D check too no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,371 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

It would be close to 10,000 hours on the clock by now. It is ETOPS and its a HGW model

Also EI can't be short a hull between Easter and October, there are at least 3 A330 out currently.

Has EI-GEY had it’s cabin refit?

I really don’t know what all the fuss about the new paint scheme is. What difference will it make to anybody what colour the plane is? Who cares if it’s white or green? As long as you get to where you are going, does it really matter.

Not to someone who doesn't care, however here on an aviation forum we generally have a deeper understanding or even respect for things like brand recognition, nostalgia, etc,

As long as you get where you're going, you could fly ryanair! If that's how you look at it. Hell, does it matter if it's a 191 Audi or a 99 Nissan Sh*tbox, as long as you get where you're going. Not quite.

New paint scheme is generally a big fuss, by the airline itself and aviation enthusiasts. Would you go on to an architecture forum and complain about how people are talking about the look of buildings, when all they should care about is the function?

Every A320 and A330 built were to a single design (with adaptations for 319/321 or 330 200/300) the only difference is the colour of paint applied. So talking about how buildings look is irrelevant. How two identical buildings are painted is more apt.

Maybe 30 years ago I’d agree with you. When flying was an experience. But now, an airplane is just a mode of transport, like a bus or a car. Would you choose one bus over another just because one has a nicer paint job. To carry on your analogy regarding a 191 Audi or an old Nissan. Ryanair’s airframes are on average a lot younger then the Aer Lingus fleet. EG CPE 33100 cycles and 49816 hours. CVA 33800 cycles and 48400 hours. Lowest on the list is DVN WITH 13735 cycles and 23460 hours. Starting to look like Aer Lingus is the old Nissan and no amount of paint will fix that.
As pointed out above, new livery is a big deal on an airline/aircraft enthusiasts forum. Not everyone will be bothered about this change but enough are that it is relevant to the forum. If you dont understand that concept then perhaps this forum isnt for you.

So why are Dublin Bus changing their livery? Why did Irish Rail change their livery from orange to green? If branding wasn't important, then companies world wide wouldn't spend billions every year on advertising their brands.

And in an aviation enthusiasts forum, people are going to discuss everything including livery.

No, thats besides the point though, its all about admiring the livery of the plane. Planes that have a stand out livery attract attention, which is the whole point of a livery. Whenever I'm flying it is a nice feeling to see an Aer Lingus plane, reminds me of home.

I never said branding wasn’t important. I just don’t get the hype over the choice of colour or when each airplane is going to get painted.

I’ve seen the drawings. It’s nothing special.

A lot of people admire liveries. Remember when BA did their world tales and the backlash that caused? Half of that wasnt even from enthusiasts. Again, if you cant understand why people may have strong feelings about an Aer Lingus livery on an Aer Lingus discussion you're probably on the wrong site.

This reply makes no sense, it’s highly contradictory.
So branding is important then!? And branding is the visual representation of a company no!?? So is that not a livery?
