Why is Netflix so terrible

I know this is a trivial annoyance compared the grand scale of things but I really wanted to vent about this and im interested in other peoples thoughts.
I finally gave into the hype and recently signed up for netflix, ive been registered for about 3 weeks now. Having signed up ive been wondering why there is so much hype around netflix, in my opinion, it is dreadful. Most of the movies are for children and teenagers, the few that arent, most of them are really not good movies, if I had nothing better to do I dont think id watch even half of them.
The documentaries are, uninteresting and often years old and dated, some of them I remember watching on channel 4 and BBC before we all had to get sky boxes, I havnt sat down to watch tv in years!
I thought it could redeem itself a little when I saw they had put up some David attenborough documentaries, I could listen to him all day, I love him and find him very engaging but netflix seem to have somehow managed to find his very few most boring documentaries that he's made and put them up for our viewing.
And whats this about only some countries getting Derry girls? Surely Irish netflix should get Derry girls, no?
Is this just me? Is netflix actually great and im the one missing out?

Whoever came up with the un-turnoffable feature that immediately plays trailers when you've stopped on a title for a second should be boiled alive in a vat of their own piss

A lot of good stuff has been added in the last few months. Lots of really good old and classic films. Netflix originals are generally not that great though overall in my experience.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

Their movies aren't too great but the series they have are amazing! try starting of with Narcos.

You are missing out on countless great shows, movies and documentarys on Netflix.

I have had Netflix for 7 years at this stage eg the 1st day it started in Ireland. I have used it nearly every day since I got it.

I have seen it change from painfull TV and crap movies to some of the best TV I have seen over the past few years.

Give it time look into what netflix oringals have came out over the last few months and start there. I watched YOU (TV show) there over the last 3 days and loved all 10 epps of it. Look it up might be something you fancy?.

I pay 14 euros a month for the 4k Netflix and its hands down fantastic value for money and i have never felt ripped off for paying it

Narcos is very good. Depending on which region of Netflix you have the content can vary, but I have always found the selection very good.

To the OP I suggest that you have a read of the following thread as well:

Lots of good recommendations on there.

If Maniac is on Irish Netflix give it a watch, 10 part series
Glow is a super fun show
    Lost in Space isn't bad

Agree tbh, hardly ever find anything I like on the irish version at least

A large number of the movies are just terrible beyond belief, almost like parodies, why even put them up? I think most would prefer quality over quantity in this case

it could be a lot better. ive a feeling that we're fobbed off with a lot of cheap netflix originals rather than some good films/tv shows.

    Aye. Well worth a goo.

"Dark" (German with subs) is good as well. "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" are - despite the expectations the genre might engender - intelligent, watchable and adult fare. "Mindhunter", "altered carbon" and "godless" are worth the time as well.

(I've no idea whether or not these are on irish netflix though)

Did we ran out of stuff to rant about already?

Damn, I love Netflix, using it pretty much since it started out in Ireland. We dont even have RTE channels anymore. Netflix is more then enough for us.

I'm too busy chopping up your guy on Netflix to notice...

Dont have Netflix myself but my mate does and from what Ive seen its not great with regards to movies (I believe its much better for tv shows?)

What other streaming services (legal) are available to Irish residents? Is it a case of them having a sort of monopoly over certain regions that they dont bother providing more and better movies there?

Amazon Prime, but like Netflix it's another watered down version for this region.

The Netflix originals are usually very well made and cost a bomb to make. I prefer them to other movies/series

Why is there a difference between the Irish version and whatever. Why is it not like Spotify?
Seems daft but we still sign up to it. Sh*t like that pi**es me off.
I get it for a few months then cancel as once I watch what I want there isn't much else to look at

Netflix is pretty good IMO and is improving all the time.

Netflix is amazing, far better than having sky, check reviews of stuff before you watch and you'll find that in amongst some crap there's lots of top quality tv. I've just started the last kingdom.. amazing so far.

Just awful films that went straight to dvd and bargain bins or they will show “blockbusters” that we have all seen 100x in the last 20 years

I always check the IMDb reviews and seem to always be around 3-5

Documentaries are ok, can’t be arsed sifting through the boring ones

Used to only watch the international films category , even that has got quite **** too

Apart from all of the stuff I've watched on that I've enjoyed and all the stuff I have yet to watch, Netflix isn't up to much.

It’s not really about movies - although there are some good ones. In terms of series it’s excellent.

Also. You don’t have to use it.

Netflix isn’t really watered down anymore. And amazon is way worse.

I find it great value, €14.99 a month and there's myself and 3 cousins watch it probably daily between us. For one person the lower plans are probably still good value even when you consider how much more the US version etc. have.

I'd pay slightly more for the US catalogue if it was an option.

By contrast my Mam has Sky installed in the house as well and I'd watch that about half as much (pretty much only the sports) yet it's nearly €100 a month. She gets the value from it but that's mainly because Netflix is an alien concept

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,266 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

The reason it doesn't have all the shows that the US has is licencing for our much smaller population of subscribers. I.E it doesn't pay them to show them here.

So much for t'interwebs being the great global leveller. It has great shows, but saw most if not all the ones I'm into already. The rest are ****ty kids shows, the usual 3rd Reich documentaries and ****ty straight to DVD Bollywood stuff.

I wanted to watch Babylon Berlin....googled...great it's on netflix...then not appearing on MY netflix wtf?

It's a godsend for watching while commuting on a bus to and from work every day

Is it illegal to talk about illegal streaming?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭Mr.Wemmick

Lots of surplus crap movies on Netflix for sure, but I have seen some great series and documentaries so on balance it is not bad at all.

The Keepers is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. The Staircase is also excellent.

TV series: The Alienist, The Dark, Stranger Things, The Haunting of Hill House and The OA to name but a few.. oh, and Star Trek Discovery.. and Black Mirror.

If Baggins loses, we eats it whole..

Not illegal but not allowed on boards.

I don't think VPN use to get around Netflix geostrictions is at all illegal, but still not allowed to be discussed in detail here I believe.
