    Hazard did.

Would you agree that it is rare and would turn off many a player, adding in the fact that they are halfway through their season?

This is United we're talking about!

But yeah it does make me wonder if they have a verbal agreement with Poch. Hopefully the story leaks and Spurs' season goes off the rails!

Its a worry if we do have a verbal agreement as they mean sweet fa.

You were trying to equate Mourinho not being ‘backed’ in the Summer to Poch not being ‘backed’ at Spurs despite the fact that the two operating in completely different circumstances that cannot be compared with such glibness.

Your point was nonsensical and you got called out on it. Get over it.
Yep. Whatever. You win, or something. Good one.

Just wondering why would Ole go as caretaker manager just for a few month when he has a permanent (as permanent as a manager can be) unless there is something else in it for him

His stock would be far higher from 5 good months at United than from 5 excellent seasons at Molde.

I actually thought Ole would be a good choice as DOF for United due to his history. As a player, as a coach and his work running a club on a smaller scale.

Even Roy Keane has a vastly more impressive managerial C.V. than this fellah. Who in their right mind would be willing to take on this mooted "Caretaker" position anyway?

This. A half decent job puts him in the frame for so many more jobs elsewhere

Whatever about the merits of Ole or Blanc as interim boss, the most critical decisions in all of this are director of football and a permanent coach. Let's not lose sight of that.

Plenty of managers have done caretaker roles.

    Benitez. Hiddink. RDM. Solari.

If it goes any way well he may get a better offer than molde afterwards. Close the gap on top 4 best he can, decent showing against psg and a good go at the fa cup

I'm not arguing agaisnt that (and I did also say Poch back then too).

My Hmmmmm is to do with Poch maybe wanting to leave Spurs for the same things Mourinho has moaned about all season. Leaving Spurs for the same set of problems.
I get that. I get that he'd have reservations but I still believe he'll have superior backing at United versus what he gets at Spurs. He may be waiting for one of the other top jobs but they are limited and there is always a danger that his stock will never be higher than it is now.

United were a sh*t show 3 years ago and we still managed to get one of the most highly regarded managers in the game. That manager was backed with over 400m pounds in 3 years so I can't imagine our stock has fallen that much in the game.

Previously people questioned appointed Poch because "he's won nothing yet", now it's "why would he go there"? If he's the right man we should just go all out for him.

Not many players would be looking to move in January to begin with.

But yes I think players would still be attracted to United and the league despite the manager scenario. Especially ones at clubs out of the mix in Europe for example and back themselves to be better than players United have.

Look at right back, if United went for a player like Denzel Dumphries from PSV or Klosterman from Leipzig I think the scanario would still allow a transfer.

I don't see United getting in any major signings but it is possible they could still bring in players of suitable quality to deal with problems now.

Seemingly Jose was blocking this appointment

Can't get my head around that tbh.

His ego wouldn't have someone looking over his shoulder in an oversight type role
Mourinho wanted full control over football matters. To be fair I wouldn't blame him their. Do you think Saf would agree to a director of football?

I love OGS as much as the next guy but manager of Manchester United? I mean

If Jose is as toxic as people said he was and we actually do have a good team we have 21 GAMES?! to put a dent in 11 points + knockout stages of CL and FA cup.

I’m going to give whoever it is every chance, but if it is Ole I get a strong felling we’ll be seeing posts such as “you can’t expect them to perform under such a limited manager” etc in a couple of months time as the players get off once again

I don't buy the "why would xyz join us now, we are a mess" line. It's still Manchester United, that badge and this club comes with a lot of history beyond the post Fergie years.

We have the best stadium in England and the finances to go toe to toe with the elite clubs in the transfer market. I don't think we'd have trouble attracting any top manager who is available.

If clubs like Madrid, and Bayern had bad season those names still come with a lot of weight and managers would jump at the chance. UTD is no different.

Very hard appoint a DoF with a manager already in place.
The next few months is the ideal time to get a DoF in and start the changes needed. Then bring in a manger in June who knows what they are getting into.

Every club Jose was at previous had a DOF.

The big difference is Ferguson had the likes of David Gill where as we have Woodward now.

David and Ferguson had a great relationship.

I think we can see now that Woodward is not a football man, the guy is unbelievable in marketing but this naivety recently from giving Jose a new contract and the summer debacle really opens the eyes

Yep. Whatever. You win, or something. Good one.

It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about discussion & debate. I gave a crisp, constructive reply to your assertion that Poch might leave Spurs because of particular issues, only to encounter the same issues at OT.

Instead of engaging in proper discussion, you sniped back like a sulky teenager. Pity.

Well well well. What a day.

I could care less in trying to predict what is going to happen next but I’m liking this apparent strategy to go for someone permanent in the Summer. I hope it’s Pochettino but can not see it happening yet. Either way the Summer is a better time to wrestle a manager away from a club.

G Neville excellent on The debate just now. Pretty much nail on the head with all the points he made.

Our club really needs to get its **** together. Get back to what matters most and that is the football side of things.

And if we go out and just hire anyone with a big name who is available right now then the club will be criticized for a quick knee jerk appointment.

If people were to turn against OGS within the short time he is due to be in charge then they are just sad and everything that is wrong with modern fans.

    This is solid strategy IMO.

Absolutely, the club has sold it's sole, it's all about haircuts and hashtags.

In fairness to Woodward he's a marketing guy and he's good at that, unfortunately when it comes to football and running a club he's clueless.
