With all this talk of smoking in pubs etc
I was just thinking to myself, how many here that smoke actually smoke while in a car with non-smokers (even if you own the car).

Its VERY different to a pub situation and as a non-smoker its sickening to be in a car while someone is smoking.

One day many years ago I was in a car with my sister and she was smoking I had to get out of the car I just couldn't take it (I was sitting right beside her so it was more horrific then usual)

So do you smoke in a cars?

I smoke fairly heavly but try to avoid doing so in a car.
But if i do i always leave the window down just an ince so the smoke gets sucked out.
You can always open a window if the smoke is too much and the driver is smoking.

Its not the same ***, the smell is very sickening
Yeah most of the smoke gets sucked out but there's still enough to stink your clothes.
    :(

There’s nothing worse than getting into a car that stinks of stale cigarettes – it’s horrible. I wonder how long it is before the Government try to make it a safety issue too, and ban it the same way they have mobile phones.

Yeah, if I'm buying a car and I get in and I can smell smoke or there is a yellow stain
on the roof inside, this is the one thing that will really put me off buying it. I don't
think I would ever buy a car from someone who used to smoke in it.

How about an option for people who don't smoke?

The government of Sinapore banned smoking in cars but then got rid of the law beacuse they police could not enforce it.

I don't smoke. My parents always did, I used to hate it! My eyes would burn and I'd always get a couging fit started! But...I know if it's your car you can do what ever in it!

Luckily for me I tend only to climb into cars with ppl who i know will respect the fact that I can't stand the smoke. However the worst situation is with taxi drivers. I really hate getting into a taxi and its filled with smoke. As I'm allergic to it, by the end of the journey, my clothes stink, my skin is ichy all over and I'm in a generally very irritable mood. Often I've been tempted to get out once I realise what the car smells off and refuse to pay the fair, but I haven't done it so far :P

Exactly - if it was my car and I'm alone in it, it's my business.

If there is a non-smoker in the car, ask if they mind.

It's just consideration. Most people wouldn't smoke if they asked that question and received a negative answer

In my own car, I smoke regardless of who is with me. Apart from my mother because she starts putting on this cough and it's just easier not to. Unless it's a long journey, I wouldn't smoke when she's in the car with me.

****ing evil. Why do people have to smoke in cars at all? It leaves the dirtiest stink for a start.

I smoke in the car with window down slightly to assist the removal of smoke. Though, if a passenger didnt smoke, I'd resist smoking unless it was a long journey. ;)

Because it's my car, I pay a lot of money for it, and I'll do what I please in it. I have an air freshener and always have the window slightly open so the stink is never too bad.

There is a special corner in hell reserved for those parents who smoke in the front of their cars while the fan heater blows the smoke right back into their kids lungs. Jeez - they might as well just pinch their noses and blow the tar straight in.

Well you can always get out of my car and walk. No I won't be slowing down.

And I don't smoke in the car - but get out you whinging maggot

(Curious point: In my home you're a guest and can pretty much do what you like and be treated nicely. In my car you do what I say or walk - your choice)

yes i would and will smoke in cars, unless someone in the car asks specifically for me not to.. (although if the driver says its ok and someone in the back asks me not to... im inclined to turn up the radio, smoke and say i never heard them :p)

also depends on how long the journey is as someone pointed out

    I don't smoke

And when i'm driving nobody smokes in my car. If you don't like it then don't get in.

For those people who smoke in cars then fine...indeed its your car and you can do what you want. But seriously....with all the health warnings i firstly find it amazing that you'd kill yourself slowly like that and secondl;y find it UNBELIEVABLE that you'd inflict it on someone else.

Don't you dixks have the ability to wait until you get where you're going?

    In my car. My rules.

A non-smoker in a car is in no way affected by the smoke that comes from my cigarettes. Window open, fan on, the only indication is the slight smell.

If someone asked me not to smoke, I'd consider their request; but if was some wanker who just doesnt want the smell they can go f*ck themselves. They are getting a free trip in a machine that costs a **** load to run. They are liable to be left on the side of the road. If too close to the destination, Ill drive further away and then kick them out.

Remember this is not a health issue. And people do have a choice. Stay in the car or get out. Simple.

And just because its fashionable to have an unreasonable intolerance of smoking, while at the same time politically incorrect to support the pastime, doesnt mean that smokers are going to roll over in their own property to the pc police. Smoking is ann addictive habit. It may not be possible for a smoker to not smoke. It is safer to allow a smoker to smoke in a car on a journey if they need it. Otherwise they will be thinking more about their next cigarette than the road in front of them.
"I wonder how long it is before the Government try to make it a safety issue too, and ban it the same way they have mobile phones."
-It is not a safety issue. Any smoker can put a cigarette to their mouth and light it without budging their eyes from the road, its a motor reflex.

A non-smoker is indeed affected, why do smokers always try to justify there stinking habbit?

Smoke stinks everything! clothes, hair and seats.
Your a smoker so you don't notice the smell as much as a non-smoker does.
I should know two people in my family smoke and we owned a bar for 75 years I know what smokers are like when it comes to people saying its bad etc.

Ok its addictive we get the point, so while we're at it we'll allow people to use hard drugs before they start and journey otherwise they might starting wanting them while there driving and that could cause a accident.

Thats not a very good argument now is it!
Ok the example is not the best either, but thats NOT a good enough reason for allowing people to smoke in a car!

Yes just like any fool can use a mobile while driving, oh wait, they have to get it out of there bag while driving.
they have to turn it on
they have to dial a number

    sounds similar to
you have to get the fags out of your bag
you have to find a lighet/matches
you have to light it up

shouldn't you have both hands on the wheel while driving?

    Hi Fluffer

This is not true. Environmental Tobacco Smoke does impact others regardless of the ventilation. Check out either the summary or detailed HSA report on ETS if you want more details.

Having said that, I'd have no arguement with your right to smoke in your own car, assuming you don't have kids with you.
It is not a safety issue. Any smoker can put a cigarette to their mouth and light it without budging their eyes from the road, its a motor reflex.
I'm not so sure. At best, you must remove at least one hand from the wheel for some period of time to do this. Are you saying that if an emergency (e.g. child running out) occurs just at this instant, your reaction time won't be a second or two slower than if you had both hands on the wheel? That second or two could make the difference between life & death.

Anyway if they get in the car with me they obviously don't give a shiit about their own health! :D
