Haven't seen much of this Koulibaily fella looking at him now though he's a beast! Very commanding as well looks a very good defender.

Were linked to him but no way Napoli letting him go in there right mind for anything less then 100mil.

:pac: ya big jinxy bollox ya

Hopefully he'll push for a move in January since Napoli will be playing in the Europa League next year

Cheeky bid for perisic now that inter are out of CL?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,804 ✭✭✭jimmytwotimes 2013

Alisson kept Liverpool in Champions League there. Has come up with big saves for them recently.

Funny how a club identifying weaknesses and sorting them has improved them.

Not overly concerned with Liverpool going through. I don't see them winning the Champions league, and it should cost them a few league points. #thinlyveiledhatred

Thought I clicked into the wrong thread for a second.

Congratulating Liverpool on scraping through a group they should have strolled.

    WTF.

I can't see us making any 'mourinho' signings.

Some result for spurs to get out of that group.

    Pochettino's stock rises even higher

''I don't care about Mendes statement''

Dont think that statement was discussed in here but it was very strange of mendes to release it.

Would love a crack at real madrid. Not the same team they were

Tbh I'm not so sure he would be suited to the current players at United, he has a pretty close knit group at Spurs and I don't know if he could do the same with the over paid Prima donna's at United.

I suppose we will see next season anyways

    ;)

I think a cup competition may suit us this year. Could surprise some teams in the champions league

Yeh, I said it earlier in the season, if united get to the quarters anything is possible with Jose as manager. He’s great in one on one games against coaches, a 0-0 draw at home for a Jose team in a first leg is not bad at all and plays into his counter attack preference.

Our own keeper is throwing them into the net at the moment and we haven’t had a clean sheet in ages. Our defenders are collectively shíte and our midfield gets chopped and changed every week.

I love the optimism but we are not a Jose team of old that can pull that off. We’d be better off going all out attack with this group of players than all out defend. We got embarrassed last year and we were better than this year.

There isn't much else left to be fair. FA Cup run about all we could hope for

IMO it was Jose's way of reminding United that he has a contract and no plans to walk away from it himself.

That's a big 'if' I think. Sure, Jose oversaw a good result in Turin this season, but the way he set-up the team and instructed them against Sevilla at OT still haunts me. Only a few days before that, he oversaw a good win and performance at OT against Liverpool, and we should have then went out and tried to kill Sevilla a few days later. But no, he changed Rashford's position which was very effective against Liverpool, threw the industrious Fellaini and Lingard in for McTominay and the more creative Mata, and played it super safe as opposed to 'going for it' against Liverpool just days before.

The players are responsible for a lot of the dross over the last 12 months, however that CL exit to Sevilla was all Jose's. That's why I have no faith in him faring any better with us this season. We won't win the CL, and don't deserve to anyway, by getting 0-0 results at home and hoping to nick a goal away. If Jose brings United to the late stages of the CL or the final, it will be because there was a serious and real change in performances and results within his team. I'm beyond hoping for that though at this stage.

It is a massive if alright and I don’t bank on it but I think while improbable it’s possible.

I don’t feel The Seville game should define Jose’s tenure , I think some people put too much stock in that game. Yes it was awful but that can happen to any team in Europe. You may blame Jose completely but let’s not forget that was around the time when him and Pogba fell out so it’s not all tactics IMO. I don’t think tactics was the problem anyways cause it doesn’t matter what tactics you play if the players don’t respond well or apply them properly.

The Juve and Chelsea away this season showed us is what the team can do when it clicks. The champions league is generally won by the team that gets a fair bit of luck and rides out at least one knockout tie. Also seems to be won regularly by teams under performing in their own league.

I'm sorry and I am biased of course but there is no way on hell this season Jose team is winning the champions League.

But the next round is not until the end of Feb, so maybe just maybe a new manager and a few new signings would give some hope.

This team with this manager, no way no how. Don't do it to yourself s lads.

And before you say it I don't think Liverpool will win it either, we missed the boat last year and we won't get the luck of the draw this year but TBF it will be wide open this year. Could see Spurs get a good run

Who said we would win it?

There’s a big difference between having confidence that something will happen versus believing it’s possible. No united fan is confident that this team will Win anything but that doesn’t mean we should give up all hope completely. Sure what’s the point in bothering to watching any games if you have absolutely no hope at all? In many seasons the best team (on paper/form) doesn’t win the CL and cup competitions are different beasts to league football.

United are dangerous if they click and while correctly under dogs there is no Standout team in Europe. There’s plenty of teams who should and can beat united but again that’s not the point. Will anybody be surprised if united draw 0-0 against pool on Sunday? That shouldn’t even be possible if we factor in the season both clubs are having. That may not happen but it’s what Jose can do in one off big games. Ironically these tactics may prove more effective against bigger teams in Europe.

I don’t expect united to win anything this season. Even at the start of season I thought quarter finals would be a decent run. Getting past the next knockout stage looks a tall order right now. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t be overly surprised if Jose rallied the team to do much better then we expect.
