I suppose what last night did show us it that without our big guns we struggled and it’s a pity we couldn’t have done it without them. But such a brilliant start. Keita, Fabinho will hopefully continue their improvement and Firmino has 2 in his last 3 league games. Hopefully Gomez is ok.

There were too many changes in one go last night.

Last night's game - we would never have won that two seasons ago, or even last season before Jan. We were always a 50% stable defence.
Virgil has made 10% difference in our defensive solidity in the last 12 months, Gomez the same this season (WHEN AT CB), and Allison has added another 10%. If Trent could focus on his defensive game more than his attacking, we are getting close to the perfect defence for a team that's always relied on attack to win games.

Maybe Fabinho playing regular in front of them is the last piece?

We're on course to concede 15 goals this season. Even 20 would be some turn around from last year.

A fully rested Mane and Robertson should make for a potent left-sided attack against Bournemouth.

A pity Klopp can't coach a defense maybe we wouldn't coincide at all.

Why was Dyche so pi$$ed off with Klopp at the end of the game?
Congratulations to the Irish Independent for the winner of this weeks Most Annoying Click-Bait Headline - the headline, on their home page in big font with a picture of Dyche making a pissed off hand gesture to Klopp was Jurgen Klopp and Sean Dyche have heated exchange at final whistle as Liverpool fightback beats Burnley

The report is then a Press Association generic match report with the last sentence, in fact half of the last sentence being 'at the final whistle, Klopp and Burnley boss Sean Dyche exchanged words.' That was it!
    Pr!cks!

I got the impression that he wasn't happy with Klopp celebrating the 3rd goal so vigorously.

Whats the story with Clyne? Gomez should not be played at right back now. Too late for that now after his injury last night

The absence of Clyne feels like more than a training knock, I'm not one for constipation theories but it does feel like something else is afoot. How often has he even made the match day squad? - twice!

I don't think Mane will start.

We need to manage players through this period.

Looking at the wider picture and another week with 3 games in a week (all big in their own sense), I think Klopp will want Mane Firmino & Salah to start both the Napoli & United games. So working backwards from that, Mane will continue his break at Bournemouth. Just to let the wound heal more, perhaps have him on the bench. So Shaqiri starts again and plays 90 at the weekend again. Then use him as the impact sub against Napoli & United.

Firmino / Salah got a break last night but we still need them for 70 minimum against Napoli & United. Sturridge / Origi to play 20 each at the weekend, possibly more from Origi as Sturridge played a rare 90 last night so probably can't start at the weekend.

The midfield issue seems to be kind of ironing itself out a bit now. Keita is back fit and played very well last night and I think we will need him against Napoli & United also and be fresh for those 2 games. The skillset he showed last night of picking the ball up, turning and dribbling with the ball to break lines will be needed against the banks of defenses that both teams will set up with. We have Fabinho settled now also so we have to pick 3 from Fabinho / Hendo / Milner / Gini / Keita now for the 3 games so we should be able to rotate there with relative ease and tiredness should not be an issue.

Robertson got his break last night again so should be ok for the 3 games, I think he is one of those players that should be ok to keep going. TAA has to play the games now really, unless Clyne gets minutes out of somewhere. VVD has to play all 3 also and hopefully Lovren can come in for a game or two aswell.

Think it'll be this at the weekend, with possibly another game where we try keep it tight and wear down the opposition and win it in the 2nd half. Mane / Keita / striker from the bench to make the difference.

    Alisson
    TAA Matip VVD Robertson
    Hendo Fabinho Gini
    Salah Firmino Shaqiri

I was thinking about this recently also. He's only 27 but may have fitness issues after the back injury last year which required surgery.

It seems form this article that he simply doesn't offer the offensive attributes Klopp wants from his full backs and with TAA and Gomez both ahead of him in the pecking order he'll likely be allowed to leave for another club if an acceptable offer is received.

Some of the front 3 will be rested again on Saturday. Maybe all 3? Might see the same front 3 as last night.

I think Keita needs to play and maybe Fabinho. They need game time. Start them and give them 60 minutes.

I think we could see Henderson or Fabinho at left back before Clyne!

Bournemouth away will be a great game for the neutral that's for sure, they'll have no fear in attack which hopefully means lots of space behind their full backs and central midfield

    Alisson
    TAA--Lovren-VVD--Robbo
    Hendo
    Gini---Keita
    Salah--Firmino--Sturridge

Keita off at 65 for Milner, or Shaq if he doesn't start, Hendo off for Fab at same time.

It does appear his career at Liverpool is coming to an end. A season long mystery back injury & now not considered at all really

Clyne played v Napoli in the pre season in the Aviva. Looked fine at full back. Actually looked like a guy that was trying to take his claim with Trent only back from WC duty. But 1 week later bam, onto the bench - he brought in Trent after little pre season as such but it was a huge signal from Klopp that trent was his #1. He is done at Liverpool. Way down the pecking order.

    As for the weekend ...

Gotta try and rest the guys that we'll need fresh for Napoli. Kieta must start, as should Origi else it just scuppers his mini revival. Sturridge probably can't but i'd like to see him get minutes - same with Shaq - he has been under used - play him!

The midfielders are a balancing act, Fabinho has to start then 1 of Milner/Hendo/Gini ... that leave sus in good shape for The week ahead.

I'd go with the following for Saturday

    Allison
    Clyne, Lovern, VVD, Robertson
    Fabby, Gini
    Kieta
    Salah, Origi, Shaqiri

If Gomez is ok for Napoli then TAA to play Saturday. I expect Henderson and Milner to start Wednesday so maybe both will sit Saturday out. Mane won't be risked incase the stiches burst and that rules him out for CL.

Liverpool have scored 8 goals on or after the 85th minute in the league with 3 injury time winners so the appetite to keep going certainly has not dropped under Klopp even if the overall intensity has.

The whole Clyne thing is very odd and I wonder if there's a bigger story that will come out when he's moved on to explain what happened behind the scenes. I've always liked the guy even though he was limited in an attacking sense, I thought he was very reliable as a RB.

He's kept quiet about it anyways if he has fallen out with Klopp.

Not Liverpool related per se, but a great article on David Brooks and looking forward to seeing him against us at the weekend:

    The absolute state of United.

Edit: very odd what's going on there. They conceded 28 goals all last year (the much mentioned 2nd best defensive record in the league by fans) and yet this year they have conceeded 25 goals in just 15 games.

It's Mourinho. Yesterday's man. Their outcome in the league last year hid a myriad of problems. Anyone who has actually watched them play the last two year's will not find their current position in the table surprising in the slightest.

This is so true. The “trophies” were used as a battering ram to anyone that challenged that they weren’t that good. But it was there last year as well. We were on a great CL run, Arsenal needed to get rid of Wenger, Chelsea needed rid of Conte.....
Utd have issues all over the place. The owners only care about $$$, a manger that only cares about himself, and a squad that doesn’t have the quality. Hope they extend Mourinho’s contract.

Love how Pogba last year was 'the best midfielder in the league and would walk into any team', and anyone who said otherwise was laughed at, to being a symptom of their problems and a "virus". :D:D:D

    Its a funny game football.

2nd rate trophies, any top club should only concerned about the CL and PL. Sure its nice to win a domestic cup, but its proven time and time again, owners don;t give a ****e at this level about them.

The fact that you could win the league with 12 draws tells me the game is now
at a much higher level even though people will swear blind it's not as good as it used to be. They also scored just 73 goals and let in 26 which is pretty dismal for title winners by 11 points

Game is not at a higher level. Top teams have improved massively while the others have diminshed. Saf and wenger were alwyas laible to come unstuck but man city arent even being challenged at the minute

If this ends how I fear it might, Klopp has nowhere to hide.

i wrote this after the Burnley goal.

i'm 99% sure if it had been the same situation last year, my fears would've become reality, and we'd have drawn at the very best, but probably lost.

it says a huge amount about where the team is at that it found a way to win. Milner with a superb shot. a set piece routine. and a last minute breakaway. nothing out of the ordinary, just efficient, professional goals.

Still in touch with the 'best team in the history of the Premier League'.
