We're just about 40% through the season and we're on pace for a 98.8 pt season, City a 103.9. They have set the bar at a new level, a normal season you could be 5-8 points clear but I also think City have elevated us and other teams, 3 draws, two away to Arsenal and Chelsea and one at home to City leaves us trailing! ****ing mental!

Why was Dyche so pi$$ed off with Klopp at the end of the game?

Typical Brit coach perceiving slights when there were none. If you play on the edge you can't blame coaches for taking issue with that if they lose players through injury.

“Sean Dyche saw signs of the old Burnley returning in tonight's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool - starting with some good, strong tackles”

They were reckless last night. We paid for it with just one injury, but that is not the way you are supposed to play football. You need a strong referee to protect the players and last night he was poor in this regard. There was one bad tackle as well on Moreno that didn't even see a card from Bardsley but on another day it could have been red.

Also, why no replays of their goal to show if it could have been offside? In the Man U game the first equalizer was also offside but they only showed it once. I think it is clear now that there is a directive to the TV companies who are producing the live matches that they shouldn't focus on this. The PL made a mistake by not having VAR this season and they are trying to hide it by not focusing on offside decisions which should be a easy fix with VAR.

In any case, we once again dominated the game, had 74% possession and 18 shots to their 10. Other than the goal, which seemed offside, they had one real chance in the last minute where Alisson had to make a save but we went on to score from there. Good performance that looked more fluid with Naby in the middle making some great runs past players. We have been missing this with Oxlade-Chamberlain out.

Good times once again, still only 2 point behind and we made up one goal on GD with City. Happy days!

Loved the small bit of swagger we had at the last 10 mins too, little flicks and one touch passing.. confidence

Only watched the game now, before we went down pretty poor but after the goal we were pretty much excellent. VVD being the man he is and getting that ball across for the second, Alisson makes a great save, keeps the ball in and I'm shouting go to ground and kill a few seconds :o, nah mate we're scoring a third

Gomez being injured is a worry, I'm hoping it is some sort of badly bruised/strained ligaments that hurts at first but just needs a few days/weeks to recover and not anything more. Lovren being fit is vital and not playing Matip, his performance and Origi barely kicking it (might not be his fault) today were the main downsides.

Also lol at the other 'top' keepers in the league today :pac:

Matip was good last night. His positioning was excellent. Origi did fine aswell. Himself and Sturridge didn't see much of the ball in the first half but held it up well when they did get it.

Don't think it was even given as a foul if I remember right

No piont winning the league before Christmas, look at hat happened to the team that won it last August.
I'd rather be too next year in May. So next year, hopefully will be our year.

This Liverpool team is impressive. Last minute winner and coming from behind to win by two goals away from home. Nice gal starting to form now too.

Big week ahead now too. If we can beat Bournemouth at the weekend we'll go top hours before City go to Stamford Bridge. That makes this an absolute must win. I can't stand early kick offs and Bournemouth have been scoring freely this season, but this is our best chance to put pressure on City before meeting them in the new year

    And then we have Napoli...

Alisson couldn't do much about the goal, he did as well as could be expected. We've seen fouls given there but if that had been a Liverpool goal chalked off I'd have been raging.
He seems to be getting more impressive by the game. He's easily made 3/4 great saves to turn draws into wins and that's what he was bought for. He still looks a little hesitant with high balls in but that could be deliberate with big Virgil attacking everything in the air. If he can keep it up for the season we'll be thinking it was a fantastic bit of business by the club.

Baby Keith was excellent too, I thought he faded away a little in the second half but that's probably to be expected as he hasn't played much football.
    Great win last night.

Allison has been the best keeper in the league so far this year. He's been excellent.

Our current points total would be leading the Premier League in all but one of the last dozen seasons.

Gamble from Klopp last night or stroke of genius? Initially i was amused to see so many changes in one go - but when you dig into it - we finished the game with Naby/Sturridge/Shaq/Firminio/Salah all playing in front of Hendo - which tells you simply that we can get away with that against teams like Burnley who totally bypass midfield in their direct approach. They key to this was the back 4 which were purposely setup to deal with the Burnley high ball - which was why Gomez was preferred to Trent and Matip was given the go-ahead cos he's trusted to shore up (Much like when he's introduced last 5 mins to defend a lead). The first few mins had them barging into the backs of our centre halves to try upset em - a telling side of the Liverpool evolution since the arrival of big Virg - they didn't buckle under that pressure.

Workmanlike first half - but more creative and calmer approach in the second half when we dominated the possession - kept them at arms length. Last 10 mins we virtually owned the ball and took the sting out of them. Make no mistake about it - that was a potential banana skin.

Thought the Ref was very forgiving and especially towards Bardsley who nearly broke up Moreno and had a few lunges in the opening 20 mins. He could have set the tone that he was not allowing wreckless tackles to go on - instead he set the tone that it was a free for all.

All in all, it's games like this that define a season, 3 points from this and Bournemouth set us up before going up against United that we can play our game and not get caught up in a mind game - if we drop points v burnley/bournemouth it would have upped the pressure v United as a "must win game" ... so lets use the rest from last nights key players and take 3 in the next game.

Huge week ahead and we've overcome a huge test. 1 of 3.

    Enjoy it lads ...

Or perhaps TV companies understand that most viewers aren't bothered with anal dissections of incidents in slow motion and would rather focus on the free flowing game in front of them? The only mistake with VAR is its conception.

Great to see Naby taking on players in the middle and giving an extra dimension to our attack. Was interesting to hear klopps comments on Shaqiri, that he didn't turn with the ball. Wants him to grab his chance and be the man.

Can anyone explain the difference between Mikytarian’s disallowed goal and theLovren/Kane non-offside that lead to the pen last season? The experts claimed that once Lovren played the ball, Kane was then not offside. So De Gea plays the ball but Mikytarian is deemed offside? I genuinely think nobody knows how to apply what is a stupid law.

A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball (except from a deliberate save by any opponent) is not considered to have gained an advantage.
A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal with any part of the body except the hands/arms (unless the goalkeeper within the penalty area).

That's the type of game where we would have gone 1 behind and crumbled or tried to claw a goal back.
I didn't see that last night, I seen us continuing the way we played because we knew if would be effective.
Burnley came out last night to use the physique of their front men and to not pull out of a challenge. They would never be able to keep that up for 90 minutes and our brand of football eventually would take over.

Naby was brilliant, it's beautiful to see a midfielder taking the ball and carrying it looking forward and not losing the ball. He also done a great deal of defensive work as well.
Allison was incredible for us in the past few games. His speed of thought and moving the game forward from the last man is genius.
The quick free against Fulham, rolling the ball into the opposition half against Everton and whatever magic that was he done last night to save, keep the ball in play and start the forward momentum.
    It's sublime to watch.

Great tune up match for a few players as well, Moreno looked good in the opposition half. Matip had a couple of wobbles but composed himself. Origi wasn't effective but got the minutes he needs. Sturridge showed he still has a shot on him, and that he's adapting well to the deeper role. When the game opened up in the second half, he was way more effective there.

Only sour note is Gomez, hopefully it's just an impact injury, it looks like he got a boot rather than a twist or landing heavy on it.

And that was last year with the same team in front of us :(

But last year, they were already 7 points clear at this stage.

    The absolute state of United.

Edit: very odd what's going on there. They conceded 28 goals all last year (the much mentioned 2nd best defensive record in the league by fans) and yet this year they have conceeded 25 goals in just 15 games.

I suppose what last night did show us it that without our big guns we struggled and it’s a pity we couldn’t have done it without them. But such a brilliant start. Keita, Fabinho will hopefully continue their improvement and Firmino has 2 in his last 3 league games. Hopefully Gomez is ok.

Last night's game - we would never have won that two seasons ago, or even last season before Jan. We were always a 50% stable defence.
Virgil has made 10% difference in our defensive solidity in the last 12 months, Gomez the same this season (WHEN AT CB), and Allison has added another 10%. If Trent could focus on his defensive game more than his attacking, we are getting close to the perfect defence for a team that's always relied on attack to win games.

Maybe Fabinho playing regular in front of them is the last piece?
