    If we're banning boxing , I'd like to ban tennis , not women's tennis , just men's.

I'm sure most of them are. But the peaceful, honourable and disciplined ones are rarely the ones who are most celebrated.

    You'll find this interesting;

According to this article, there's still a minority who will look negatively on a boxer for not using a chest guard, even though any risks to the breasts have been long disproven.

Women have had to constantly fight this notion that their physiology makes them weak little butterflies and thus they have to be careful about sport. And that their valuable genitalia need special protection.

I have no doubt there would still be many parents and grandparents worried about their little girls getting into sports because of the affect it could have on their "womanly" physiology.

I've a couple of mates with daughters and they've taken up boxing purely due to our Katie's success. So thrilled to see how they support them, one might be Olympic level - the next KT ?

I doubt it. Women's tennis is a much better game, especially to those of us who remember Pete Sampras and his .50-cal serve. :pac:

Not to mention his Robin Williams level of body hair. I was however making reference to the more aesthetic aspects of the women's game.

When women play 5 sets in GS, then they can have a modicum of respect.

It's an outdated "sport" and if it occurred outside the ring would likely lead to the participants being arrested.

It's time we took it down from the pedestal and see it for what it is, trying to decide an argument (who's best) by knocking the shît out of your opponent.

It cannot be something that we aspire to admiring or continue accepting in this day and age and it has no special merits that cannot be replicated elsewhere in the world of sport without resorting to the use of fists.

Looks like the IOC is taking it out of the Olympics too, for different reasons.

Theres no argument its a sport, they are thumping the **** out of each other willingly because they enjoy the sport. No one is forced to box or even watch it..take that away.. the money in boxing is crazy so it will never go away,

You should try a Ban MMA post they seem to be popular lately

Admittedly this has it's roots in the old notion of ladies being too "delicate" for the horror of five sets. But this isn't going to change, because no-one from the players to the TV chiefs wants longer matches than currently.

We should ban armies aswell, because going to war is out dated and stupid.

And indeed yes, some of the tennis gals are among the finest women I've ever seen. Sorana Cirstea, Caroline Wozniacki, etc etc...

We're all going to die. Life is short. So let it be an unconstrained quest for glory. Can you push yourself physically and mentally to the utmost limits? Trying to do so is an exploration and an adventure and a life worth living. Also you get to smash somebodies face in!

Or you can stay at home cowering under a duvet. You will probably make it unscathed to your grave. With all your retinas fully attached.

Don't bring up the subject of Death. It's a bit of a downer.

But... they don't in NFL. Have you ever watched American football? It's more stop/start than rush hour traffic!

Not really but it should be banned just in case

You can do your back in playing golf. Poor old Seve Ballasteros was having major back issues by the time he was 30.

Had a violent swing which wreaked havoc on his body.

Tiger has also had serious back issues in recent yrs.

I don't think I've met any half-serious golfers who didn't have some degree of back trouble.

In all seriousness though, the difference is that in fighting sports, a KO is considered a positive. When you talk about how good a fighter is, you talk about how many other competitors they've given concussions to. More == better.

In any other sport, that statistic is what will get them kicked off the team or banned from the sport.

Boxing should aim for a situation where a fighter who has many wins with few KO's, is considered a much better fighter than someone with a high-KO ratio.

You don't have to KOd to be damaged and in fact it is often better to be KOd than suffer prolonged sub concussive blows. Fighters take way more damage in the gym than they do in competition.

Both these sports have introduced concussion protocol in recent yrs.

Player welfare is now of major importance.

I think boxing should mandatory for all kids in school.it would teach them self defense,it would make them fit,and it would help with kids who are shy to interact with other kids and promote self confidence in them.
It would also help to take some of the pent up aggression out of people in a controlled and safe environment instead of killing each other on a Saturday night somewhere.
Might reduce the chance of a child being bullied.

Saying boxing should be mandatory is as bad as saying it should be banned.
