    I notice Skoda have pulled the Superb TSI now also... is this all part of the emissions problem?

    Can't remember if I asked about this before, I've heard there isn't much discount on options?

    German prices are much cheaper, for example 18" wheels are €655 vs €939 and LED headlights are €930 vs €1,853. R-Line exterior is around €1,100 and I think it was close to €2k here.

    Some options aren't much cheaper such as leather seats, reversing camera or upgraded rear LEDs but still cheaper but when you throw in a few options it's a few hundred cheaper.

    I read somewhere that VRT is charged on extras but even with that and the extra VAT rate the difference seems too big. Highline is similarly priced in Germany so it looks like there could be good money on the options here?

    Why is is there no co2 listed on the GTi pricelist, cars also not available to spec up.

    Is there a way to set the interior lights to come on when you press the 'engine stop' button, rather than when you open the door?

    Also, voice commands: at the moment its saying I need to go to a dealer to get a code for this to be activated - any experience with this process?

    Thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2019 (245bhp) Gti Manual with the technology pack. Any reason not to?

    Thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2019 (245bhp) Gti Manual with the technology pack. Any reason not to?

    Main reason would be, it's going to be a run out model soon enough, if that's something that bothers you. The MK8 will probably start appearing towards the middle of next year. GTI and R are usually 6 months behind that though.

    Is it a car thats already in the country or a fresh factory order? I'd say factory orders are still unpredictable with the WLTP fiasco.

    Yeah, looks like manual is still an option in the GTI.

    They've seriously trimmed down the range though! All they offer now is:

    5 door manual 245hp
    5 door DSG 245hp
    5 door DSG R.

    Oddly though, buried down in the spec sheet, "3 doors" is a no-cost option.

    It'll be similar to getting App-Connect activated. Dealer buys a "licence key" from VW and applies the software update/unlock on your car. Probably costs at least a couple of hundred. I really wouldn't bother. Maybe its just me, but I don't get on with "voice commands".

    Octavia came with voice and gesture control - I quickly got tired of swearing at the voice control and having gear changes select Marty Whelan, turned them both off.

    That low GFV is to your advantage imo. A tidy 3 year old GTI, old model or not, will be worth a fair chunk more than 16k. Mid 20k’s at least. This means that at 3 years you have a reasonable chunk of equity to roll into a new car. It being the “old” model will impact residuals a little but not hugely imo.

    Contrast this with say BMW. High GFV, very low or even no equity at the end.

    Yea that's what the sales guys were saying. Just have to figure out which is better for me, the lease or PCP, reckon I'll spend 2.5k a year on serving tyres and tax going the PCP route, it's included with the lease option and I keep my car so will probably get 12k back there. Lease is €625pm and PCP is €380. Self employed so waiting to hear my accounts take on it.

    Do they do a service pack, could be way over estimating service costs over 60,000km.

    They do, but whether its free or not depends on what the current offers are.

    My VRS 245 has 6mm left on fronts, 7mm on rears after 18k km so they are pretty light on tyre wear.

    Jeez, thats way more than you'll need. A typical standard service, every 15k, will cost you less than 200. A major service, which would only be every 2nd or 3rd, would be a bit more.
    You'll go through a set of front tyres in about 20k kms, so budget around 300-350 for a pair. Rear tyres will do a fair bit more kms.

    The GTI TCR is coming here too, 290bhp, dsg only and another few nice bits on it.

    Just got my 162 R serviced today at joe Duffy VW for 189 euro @ 45000km. This was oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and screen washer, as well as a "complimentary health check" (tyre depth / brake wear etc).

    Pirelli p zeros on front are lasting at least a year (20k km) and the back at nearly twice that duration/distance. They're 200 / corner.

    Current tyres cost me €250 a corner and I'll hardly get the year out of them, blew one out on the motorway the other day so another €250. Won't get into BMW service costs but €189 wouldn't go very far.

    I'd like the extra power of the R and 4wd for winter but don't think I can justify buying it new. 245bhp in the GTi should be enough.

    They seem to have gotten rid of the Dynaudio option for the GTI/GTD/R even though its available on the other Golf trims.

    I had to top up my Audi A4 1.4 tfsi so I dropped into an Audi main dealer for a litre and they gave me Castrol Edge Longlife III 5W-30. They mentioned that was what was being used across the VAG brands.

    What is the recommended oil for TSi engines? 5w30 or 5w40


    When you lift the bonnet there should be a sticker near the front of the engine bay with the oil symbol and the oil spec required for that engine. Mine for instance says VW 504 and VW 507 which are the VW oil specs and correspond to 5W-30. The label on the 5W-30 oil should show the VW oil spec it meets.

    I'm getting excellent wear off those tyres too on my Mk7 2.0L Diesel. I'll be getting them again I think.
