Cheap way to jump on the Luxobarge bandwagon with tax and test!

BMW 730D 500 euro under budget I love the colour..

    That's a strange looking 7 series :)

Possibly but that 3.0 Beemer engine is lovely but never drove it in 7 series so probably not as nice.

That was my fathers car from new. Never gave a minutes bother. He sold it in late 2014, it has had a good few owners since...

They always have loads of owners, either a result of dodging back tax or the usual story of folks buying them and selling on at the first sign of a bit of maintaince due. Funnily enough my brother was going to view that very car in August when he was looking for an E66 but the evening before we were going to go to Galway a nice low mileage low owner 730 went up in Dublin and he ended up buying that.

That is a lovely looking example. Nice colour, wheels, interior etc and a sunroof is rare enough too. Lots of them have pretty poor spec, especially diesels for some reason. Same goes for diesel CLS' of the same vintage, most don't even have heated seats. IMO the W221 S-Class or A8 are superior cars, but they're rarely as cheap as an E66 these days.

It was a particularly nice example. Think the invoice was €117k!

What a nice car, but god it just reinforces my hatred for black interiors, I just don't get how anyone could like them or spec them.

Too much cream is worse imo! My car has cream seats,80% door cards and cream headlining which is too much imo!

What you think of the 7 series I posted?

Why do people take pictures of their cars on grass? Free range A8 is it?

Yeh funny enough my mate was messaging the guy who has it for sale, he was looking to swap his 300C for it with €500 my mates way. The seller offere this deal, didn't pan out anyways, sounded like a very fair trade to me.

It's not a bad spec, has a unique colour combo and the wheels are conservative enough, nothing overly special otherwise. A better car all day long than a 300C I would have thought, but hey, let them at it!

    I agree with this.

Part of the problem is that the default option instead of black is often cream which I love personally but which doesn't seem to suit many drivers for "hard to keep it clean reasons".

And speccing cream usually means going for the leather upgrade on normal cars.

Theres such a big difference between cream and black that you'd think a nice compromise could be found with in between options

Love black leather interiors I just don't like all black. My own f10 was totally black inside was too dull so changed the trim to hex aluminium much prefer it then all cream but it's each to their own.

Audi black leather is very hard wearing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,769 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Light coloured leather interior looks and feels more upmarket than the darker colours but it requires more maintenance. I had dark leather interiors in my previous cars but currently have oyster leather in my current car. I used get away with giving the seats a clean every few months but with the oyster I nearly have to clean them every week or two. They show up everything and if you wear jeans regularly then the amount of dye they leave on the seats is unreal. That's fine if you your a keen enthusiast who enjoys cleaning their car but a lot of people simply aren't and the dark interior hides neglect better.

Low mileage if genuine. Leather looks good in pics. Lots of test.

Ah if it's cold it's fine.

Mine (3.0V6) used to rev that high until it heated up.

    Is an XF a Luxobarge?

Anyway this one has a long NCT to 12/19 and a 'dealer warranty'.

Not a fan of this in silver, but its a nice place to sit for a year or two. They get around 7.0-9.0 l/100 km on rural/N roads and Motorways depending on how heavy your boot is according to a colleague who has one.

€5,250 for this one with 144,000 km.

I think they were successor to the S Type so not quite luxobarge but that is a great find. Looks like a lot more than €5k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,769 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Yeah they would be more a rival to the 5 Series, E Class, etc. You'd really have to go to the bigger XJ for true luxobarge. Still a nice find though.

I don't see many Citroen C6's on sale here, probably because they were so niche it hurt.
A few for sale in the UK though, might be worth importing.
    Ultimate waft-mobile imho!
But the tax.... I'm going to assume that the 230mg of CO2 is going to make a post 2008 model astronomical to tax.

The late 2008 forwards had a lower tax of around €750, and that was the 3.0 diesel as well.
But then you'll have to pay a lot more for it.
I guess it balances out if you own the car for a couple of years.

11 months test and about €200 worth of tax on this Phaeton. I've driven them a few times and they are a fine bus if you can see beyond the badge. Not sure how complicated that seat repair is, worth checking up on first. Not the best pics and I don't personally like the wheels, but it's only €3900.

the broken seat is the front left which for a car that primarily sold in LHD is great as likely a lot more common a part, probably just the switches broken , seat adjustment is just a few motors anyway, nothing super expensive to break anyway.
