    I have a memory of an advert for Duckhams or Castrol or a car manufacturer from the late 1980s or early 1990.

    It definitely had Layla.

    Ski Sunday/Sportsnight are intro's I love. Might have nothing to do with what the O.P. is looking for, but hey.

    Oh! and "bbc test match cricket theme song" - "soul Limbo"...great stuff!

    Small update
    The misses thinks it Early 90s - the show was a Sports show or Car show - Male orientated


    Talk about a needle in a haystack.

    Nothing sounds like Layla.


    Well, apart from that piano bit in Billy Joel's Moving Out, and that wasn't a theme tune that I'm aware of.

    Just because the instrument ensemble in the theme from the show you remember resembles the ensemble used on Layla, it doesn't follow that it sounds like it.

    I'm trying to think outside the box (excuse the pun). Does anyone remember the "A car/chopper/bike is born" tv programme by Mark Evans on Discovery channel. I think there was a good few of them and they all had a different rock guitar song at the beginning. I've checked a few to no avail.. I will keep checking..
