I put someone on ignore once just to see how it works, never got round to unignoring them. I wouldnt bother putting someone on ignore as it would mess with the flow of the thread. As in, I would be seeing replies to posts I cant see. I just ignore posts of people who annoy me.
What does make me laugh though is when people announce that they are putting someone on ignore. I work in a pre school and I always read "Im putting you on ignore" as ... "I'm not your friend anymore".

Or when someone quotes an ignoree...
a certain poster keeps shouting "quotes" ....always gives me a giggle... especially if I'm the quoted poster!
    :)

Im not sure I understand...do you mean the person is giving out that people have quoted someone they have on ignore?

If I have you on ignore...and someone quotes your post...I see the quote...so it defeats the purpose of having you on ignore.

Nobody is on my ignore list, not even the arseholes. It takes more effort to put someone on ignore than to simply not bother reading whatever they've shat onto my screen.

Having an ignore list defeats the purpose of what a discussion forum is supposed to be about if you cant handle someone having a different opinion to you than you shouldn't be on such a forum in the first place.

Never put anyone on I disagree with, just the real sneaky tactical ones. 5 currently.

    This .
I have no problem reading peoples posts , whether I agree with them or not .

It's the underhanded sneakiness of sending unwanted pm's , because they haven't got the balls to post it on the thread , that has given one poster the privilege of being the first and last on my list .

    Hello ;)

Nobody mainly cos I can't be arsed. I love seeing all the different options. Life would be dull if we all agreed all the time.

The joys of being a mod on probably the busiest forum. Can't really put anyone on ignore. Except for Persepoly. After all the pm's looking for me to hook up with her I just had to block her:D

    Putin! And Seph!

    I am horrified and appalled!

The arrangement was that I could have all the hook ups I wanted with you both as long as I didn't tell.

    Hello ;)

You can turn off pms (except from mods).

I didn't want to turn off my receiving pm's , just didn't want anymore from one poster , that was all .

Not singling you out now, cause a few people have said it, but Boards isn't just a discussion forum, discussion is a part of it sure but it's also more than that.. It's a place for games, news,music/video/sports/history etc watching and reading, plenty of things where opinions don't come into it and people worth ignoring

Same here, nobody on mine. But I must be on some people's ignore list as I often see quoted posts, but not the original post...

    :)

Never bothered with it, I like reading differing points of view to my own and don't really get into nit picky arguements with people so no real reason for me to block people.

First they came for the socialists...

Don't have to be on an ignore list to be ignored.

    Ignore them?
Does anyone know who made this thread?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,700 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

I have one guy on ignore !

He was really unnecessarily rude in a really harmless thread of people looking for information, so off with his head.
Really rude, as in, the guy who'll shove you to go past you off the queue without even an acknowledgment yeah, don't need that in my life.

I wouldn't put people I disagree with on ignore, what's the freaking point of being on a discussion forum otherwise ?

Just the one forum member on my ignore list. I really try to avoid putting people on ignore but this person is a wall-of-text, verbose waffler who tries to beat their debate opponents in submission and “win” by exhausting them with sheer tedium. It wouldn’t be so bad if this person was open to having their mind changed but they seem to have little interest in that. I just can’t see the point of that. What enjoyment can they derive from posting in that style? Whatever point they are trying to make is not interesting enough to wade through the treacle that is their every post. And it’s not like I always disagreed with them. But obduracy is a trait that really gets on my nerves and they have it in abundance.

I am much happier posting here since whacking them on ignore.

Its not just a discussion forum. And some of the stuff that is tolerated I find intolerable.

Ah, I dunno, having a handful of people on ignore doesn’t make that much difference when there are hundreds of regular contributors.

And, as I said in my first post in this thread, I didn’t always disagree with the one person I put on ignore. Some people are just absolute doses which translates over to their posting style and - though I was doubtful whether it would make a difference - not seeing their posts except for the odd time they’re quoted has increased my enjoyment of boards immensely.

One person on it, but only because they’re actually unstable. They took to another message board pretending to be a man saying that I was a whore, a cheating slut, messaging him (her) for sex :D

I don’t mind a debate but that level of cray cray is too much to handle
Oh yeah people pretending to be someone else and posting lies about other people is awful.
