I stood beside a 730d on Sunday as it started up, sounded rough to me!

If I'm spending 35k of my money on a car. And I reckon I want a petrol as the diesel is rougher. A petrol I shall buy.

    Had a 330d it's deffo rougher than a 330

    OK :)

I was worried about that too before I test drove mine but I was pleasantly surprised and still am today at just how quiet it is but to each his own.

When it's warmed up it's actually decently smooth and quiet inside the cabin but it still sounds like a bag of spanners on a cold morning if you ask me.

Depends what your used to as well. Voodoo I think is used to petrol 6+ cylinders. So definitely gonna be rougher than those. If you're coming from a 4 pot diesel, it'll be an improvement

I don't have an irrational dislike for diesels, they certainly have their place. But I see zero reason to own one for anything other than economic reasons, otherwise I see them as an inferior choice in general to petrol.

The E-Tron is mega bucks now there is talk of only one launch model in Ireland, the reduced BIK offering has put it out of budget for me, too much of a stretch and also quite a risk to be taking into a brands first big electric offering.

The 740e could still have my interest, just Motomans fantastic 2 part review put me off slightly. You are essentially driving around with 4 cylinders most of the time, even though the combined output is 322bhp. I think i'd rather ditch the electric component and hassle of plugging in for just the straight six petrol in the 740i/Li. But it means 10k VRT more...

I still would like the 750, but insurance is really becoming an annual hassle.

It a shame they made the 740e a 4 cylinder. That said, Id say at 322 bhp and electric motor torque, it feels quite good im sure.
If your daily useage was somewhere close to the all electric range, it would have to be tempting though.

It certainly would be and in many ways it ticks a lot of boxes. If we're talking about trips to the gym, work and home, i'd likely get 3 days out of the meagre 25 odd mile e range.

I just spotted that the charge door isn't placed in a front fender like on the 330e, that placement annoyed me in terms of looks, interesting...

That's a beefy motor they're adding. A shame though that the range is still so poor in e mode 3 years on from the 330e launch. Granted the X5 is a big lump, i'd hope the new 330e at least doubles its range.

If the Etron was even a consideration why not the Porsche Taycan as it could be 20k cheaper? If it had 5 seats and 0 bik i'd already be saving for it.

It's never going to be an Audi or BMW but it's better than you'd expect!

Would you be tempted into one Mark? Will be interesting to see how they fair around depreciation long term. Most of them for sale seem to be dealer demos.
Would be a nicer alternative to the VW Arteon imo.

A 6 cylinder diesel option would be nice too but I'd say the 2.2 litre 4 cylinder already available from the Sorento was fitted to satisfy the decreasing European diesel market.

You won't see any 6 cyl VW Arteon about I reckon so the 2.2 in the Kia is more than ok IMO.

If I’d a company car allowance and it was on the list I’d give it a lot of thought. With my own money, you’d be nervous of depreciation. It makes something like the Arteon seem even more expensive for what it is though.

The Arteon with the R engine would be a great car.

Now you’re talking! The majority are 150bhp diesels though :(

They are and for such a great looking car it sucks but you can see what sells when this is the case!

I'd say that will be the problem with the Stinger, if your spending your own money then most would have to think long and hard with uncertain depreciation. If someone else was paying for it then the decision would be easier.

Is the Areton selling in any numbers though? I see the very odd one on the road and its a damn fine looking car. Punters aren't buying them though from what I can see. I remember having a chat with a VW salesman and he felt the pricing on them was ambitious. 45k for the 150bhp diesel. Pushing into 55-60k if you go up the engine range and add some spec!

They have a 2.0 TSI in them now but its "only" 190bhp.

Would make sense as a one year old dealer demo for say 35k. Lot of car for the money but you can be sure that most people want a premium badge over loads of kit on a Korean car that most associate with the budget end of the market.

The only arteon’s I see down here are driven by members of the Munster rugby squad.
Salesman In vw here told pal of mine they are overpriced by about 10k from where they should be to sell in any number.

Well, 10k is a bit OTT imo.... a quick look tells me a Highline 150bhp DSG Passat is nearly 40k. So the Aerton R-Line is only ~5K more than that as it is (and its probably better spec'd than the Passat), so a man could convince himself that the Aerton isn't so badly priced after all!

Trouble is, the vast majority of Passat's sold here are 1.6 TDI manual's and those are in the low-mid 30's. This is the problem VW have. They are for the most part (Golf R's and the likes aside), a bread and butter brand. There's a limited enough market out there for 50k+ VW's.

There is a tiny market for 50k plus Volkswagens I think.
They need to be selling a diesel 190 dsg arteon r line for low 40’s in my view to have any impact. When you can have a 5 series, e class or A6 for 50k this is where it needs to be. Same with the Kia but even more so as they don’t have the semi prestigious vw image.
I watched Marks video review there and wouldn’t be at all tempted by it.

Ya, an arteon with circa 200 bhp, dsg and r line for low 40s as you say would sell well.
I'm sure the discounts/pre reg offers will be coming thick and fast shortly though.

There is a 2.0 TSI with 190 bhp... presumably its a detuned version of the same engine that's in the GTI. 46.5k for the R-Line and that's before you add paint or tick any other boxes...

I thought the r line was more than that.

I'm just relying on their configurator, but yeah, according to that it's 46,695 for the 2.0 TSI R-Line.

But I imagine that excludes delivery charge (~800) and metallic (another 800 odd). Most of them are spec'd with the "tech pack" which is another 1500. So that's pushing it close to 50k all in.

Residuals wouldn't be brilliant but VW finance is pretty unbeatable in my experience, usually leaving you with comfortable equity at the end of a PCP deal (unlike BMW!!).

The 3 year GFV on an Arteon isn't great strangely enough. As many of you have said, it's just priced far too close to an A6 or a 5 series.

Ya vw got it right. Zero percent finance which makes them as competitive as discounting heavily but nobody sees it as discounting so it works well. Realistic gfv giving some equity at end means people are running in to take another Pcp. The zero percent finance again working a dream there as most people wanting to keep car will be borrowing and that might mean 7.9 percent.
