Same old dismissals as 2 years ago.
People are sick of being told that things they notice and are obvious are not to be discussed or they're bigots for noticing them. The sad thing is it's still happening and more people are and will be gathered in by the right. Yer boy Casey didn't get the huge vote bump for what he said about travellers, he got it because of the outrage projected at him and people rejecting it. When an area is ruined and it coincides with large immigration over a short period and people express concern they're shouted down. When people want to deny and deflect about Muslim rape gangs in England, when locals in Balbriggan are called racist for saying the things they see with their own eyes. All those things and plenty more are pushing people to the right.

It amazes and saddens me that 2 years later it still happening.

If people disagree with your opinion they are entitled to voice that. You can't blame these people for your own beliefs. If you are unhappy how people react to issues then put forth your arguments and debates. But stop pretending this is what pushes people to back racists. It's not.

Exageration, lies, propaganda are all techniques used by RW elites on gullible populations to get popular support for their fascistic world view. If they are challenged they scream about free speech.

Casey is aware of latent and live racism against Irish travellers. He kicked the hornets nest and those supporting him scream unfair when he is challenged.

If people are really going right because of this it just proves that this technique works. Not pushing back against the fascist allows these racist ideas to be normalsed. The solution is for fair transparent reporting and broadcasting. Casey got this. The Travellers clearly do not.

I don't agree with some of what you say, but racism is born out of ignorance and in order to dispel the "us Vs them" mentality, the facts and figures must be discussed.

However, what I find is that some (not this poster) use the cover of "pc gone mad" to cover their racist views. Give these people an inch and they will take the proverbial mile.

For example, some say that blackface isn't racist and use the above trope in their defence. My take is that if a portion of society find something offensive, then is it that much of a f'n hassle to "not do" that which offends? Really? You can't dress up as something else?

There was a discussion about black people using the N word, so it should be okay for white folk to do it. Again, if you're asked not to use that word then its very simple. Don't do it.

By all means, there are certain subjects which need to be discussed. But level heads must prevail. The idea that Casey got such a vote to be president because he made his remarks is nonsense.

Whats even sadder is that people fail to see that its such a big issue that people are willing to forgoe a lot of other indicators of a good candidate and vote for the likes of trump or Casey. A moderate candidate that just listened to and tackled these concerns would clean up and be best for everyone , sadly weve reached a stage where anyone speaking out against travellers or islam etc... is either far right or called far right because its become such a taboo.

Realistically everyones ideal is a bit of a JFK/Raegan type whonacknowledges these things but if it sits in a current 'trump is the only one who will deal with the thing' system then thats whats going to happen.

What I think is happening is somewhat inevitable given the way society is now: a kickback against a cultural situation where demographics formerly on the abandoned fringes of society - and often targets of abuse, derision, viewed as inherently sick or abnormal - are being slowly integrated into normalcy, while being championed or celebrated for the diversity it brings. You can debate the volume and noise of said celebration but fundamentally it's an inclusive, humane shift in culture.

Needless to say though, those that might have taken joy or satisfaction from ignoring or condemning gays, transgenders or yes, African Americans - are rankling against this shift in focus. Suddenly they're the ones on the outside of normal behaviour: society says you can't discriminate against gays, which results in some claiming reverse victimhood. With Trump, we see some of those sort in positions of political power, lashing out with decisions such as the proposed decision to lock in the concept of gender at birth, which would effectively destroy transgenderism.

TBH, when I hear or read those railing against PC, SJW, 'virtue signalling' or 'Liberalism', it always feels like a hollow bleating over not being able to be a complete d*ck to those demographics anymore; that presumed right to marginalise those you fear or hate. After all, it's not that many years ago since gays (for instance) were essentially viewed as perverts, and at best , in the media, portrayed as camp deviants to be feared. That generation is still around.

Obviously this is a generalisation, but taken as a broad sense of where Western values are heading, you can see a shift towards including those who might once have been maligned. Not everyone is going to be willing to embrace that change. And yes, there are also those on the other side: what I find most frustrating are the voices (mostly online) who get outraged now over some cultural entity not being progressive enough, which just feels like feeding the antagonists.

Casey was in the very low single digits until then. And from the opinion polls he got half his increase from Higgins. So of all the fascists/racists who voted for Casey half were on for the uber liberal until someone actually stuck their head above the parapet.

The "PC gone mad" thing builds over time and the dismissal of it feeds the perception. All the gender rubbish going on now is the most obvious example.
Also the conflation of things gets on people's wick. We're not America but people want to loop in their racial history with everyone else's. Like Black Pete in Holland now being racist.

I know a huge amount on the left aren't right-on idiots but while they share a platform with and give tacit approval to others under the umbrella they will get tarred with the one brush.

At the end of the day most people who voted for Trump aren't racists, though I doubt many racists voted for Trump. I think the vast majority who support Trump are idiots but idiots vote.

To me the problem with this point of view is, rape and murder is OK when committed by "proper" people, i.e. white, European (or indeed American), Christian people.
If such a person commits a crime, it is because the individual is the problem, not the race, color or religion.
Now if someone from a minority, differen color or creed commits a crime, it is because there is a wholesale problem with the entire group.
Personally I think that, wouldn't it be better if all crime was treated on an individual basis, rather tha condeming an entire group for the actions of other?
Or may we conclude that white, christian American or European males represent a serious problem and they should be placed under increased supervision? Because the commit a hell of a lot of murders and rapes.

If I'm supposed to sweettalk and mollycoddle these people, forget it. If someone is an a-hole, they are an a-hole and I won't kiss their ass for it.

That's it - it's "Not All Men" when the accused is a guy like them, but the same does not apply when the accused also happens to be Muslim, or a traveller, or an immigrant (especially if said immigrant is there illegally).

In those circumstances, it's a problem with the entire Muslim/Traveller/Immigrant communities.

On my lunch break I have often heard racism against travellers. IT might start with a story that someone mentions or was in the news. Then each person will recount a similar 'traveller story'. I would bet that not one of those people had ever a negative experience with a traveller. All hearsay. The fact that all these stories are flying around gives them the impression that they must be all similar to the characters in these stories. Men, women, children all the same, all menacing in their 'white van' eyeing your house etc.
I am sure many people have witnessed this tarvellor bashing amonst 'normal' settled people.
They are blind to the bigotry. Could not recount a good story about a traveller because they've never actually met one. Could not tell you about discrimination, historical and today against travellers because that's never occurred to them. Discrimination will only arise as a ruse by travellers to get away with their behaviour or free-load. And when a young traevller child gets called nasty names or bullied in school: It's blamed the parents. The same people are oblivious to the fact that their own societies bigotry that they inflate is screaming the abuse.

People in lower economic and discriminated against groups are charged with more crimes. Fact. eg Up until relatively recently the statement that Catholics in Ireland comitted 'a massively disproportionate amount of crimes' disproportionate amount of crimes compared to Catholics would be true.

In the abstract. Rural areas get targeted and it's not report on properly. If it was a regular roving gang it would be mentioned more.
Please tell us also which area got hit with a group of people that Casey referred too? Also could you comment on Caseys suggestion on the Late Late show that the entire TRavellor population should be forcibly encamped in the Phoenix park for 're-education. Idiotic. He also mentioned their massive levels of welfare "dependency" and not paying their fair share. Again, people will hear someone say a few things they agree with that no-one else will say and one they don't but feel a relief that someone can see the reality.

You mean the metoo movement? So women who have been violently assaulted fighting back and looking for justice is rubbish?
No. That's not what I mean at all.
    WTF?
Ya really don't get it no? Thought it was fairly straightforward. Issues that exists in other places don't automatically exist in Ireland or anywhere else.

If you know that Trump will target people by race and you vote for him anyway then you are probably a racist. Now most racists don't believe they are racist but they usually don't understand what racism is. Racism is learned.
See once again the denial of reality. Tribalism is completely natural. Xenophobia is completely natural. We have to fight and address them as issues. If I wander into the Amazon and some uncontacted tribe kill me is it because of power structures of racism that they learned from the West?

On my lunch break I have often heard racism against travellers. IT might start with a story that someone mentions or was in the news. Then each person will recount a similar 'traveller story'. I am a traveller in the "ethnic" sense of the word. I have seen family members close to death from being slashed, pubs smashed, houses burgled, documents stolen. Just about any tale I've heard about travellers I've seen within my own extended family.
Do blame the parents. My parents could have chosen to send me to school not able to count or wash my face or teach me basic manners. They chose differently. There was another traveller boy in my primary school, got on with everyone and it was only years later he was in the paper I copped he was a traveler. He was pulled out of school in 5th class. Damn racism eh?

Most trafficking rings in Europe traditionally emanated from the ex Soviet block. Orthodox human slavery is an issue. Disgree? Deflection!
I don't disagree. They are an issue. And I'm fine to say that they are.
EDIT: If you meant Orthodox in the religious sense I didn't get that. :pac: The common denominator between the Turks/Iraqis/Indians/Pakistanis caught in these rings is Islam. In other crimes and cases where there is a common denominator it should never be denied.

The detachment from reality in this thread is getting a bit unreal.

Travellers commit a disproportionately higher amount of crimes than settled people

Muslim rape gangs are real, and yet again proportionally they are responsible for more sexual assaults and rapes than natives of european / US decent.

Showing an image of a jewish person holding money is not automatically anti-semitic.

Acosta was being a dick and going way beyond the level of shouting and badgering a reporter should be doing in a whitehouse press briefing.

Jesus dude, can you even hear yourself?

"You can't make sweeping negative generalisations about entire classes of people anymore without being called a bigot."

That's because making sweeping negative generalisations about entire classes of people is called bigotry. If you want to make those sweeping negative generalisations, then you're demanding the right to be a bigot.

And if you want to be a bigot, go ahead and knock yourself out, but for the love of jebus will you man up and own it instead of whining about being called out on it?

It seems to be heavily suggested online that it was.
Could they really be so stupid to release a video which was also broadcast live?
I can't imagine they would be. I mean seriously?

I can't really get my head around it. The US government uses a doctored video from the country's most famous scumbag crazy. Huh? I'm guessing someone like Stephen Miller told the social media team "Here, use this..."

The detachment from reality in this thread is getting a bit unreal.

The meetoo movement is a witchhunt which has declared a 'guilty until proven innocent and even then still a bit guilty' fatwa on men. It started out to call out the weinsteins of this world but has ended up ruining the careers of people like Paddy Jackson.

None of these statements make me a bigot, a racist, a sexist or any other 'ist'
    Yes they do.
    They make you a realist.
