I've never been able to finish Sonic 2 on the Mega-Drive. Even a few years ago when I bought it on PSN, I still couldn't finish it. I can beat Metal Sonic, but not Robotnik.

I beat Sonic 1, 3 and S&K, but never Sonic 2. It is my Everest, but I can't be arsed trying to climb that mountain again.

    Skyrim

I've even owned a copy on PS3 but never played a minute of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,452 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

    Mario/Sonic/Final Fantasy/Diablo etc.
None of them appeal to me in the slightest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,893 ✭✭✭Canis Lupus

Skyrim and Witcher series I can think off of the top of my head. Pretty to look at but dull as f*ck in my book.

EDIT: I'll throw in with your Diablo 2 and Starcraft.

I remember being in Does not Compute in Dublin at the time, I was mad into Counter Strike and couldn't understand all the asian lads playing clickclickclickclickclick on Diablo 2 :D

Never been a fan of Mario or Zelda games unless it was on a portable device, so missed pretty much all the widely raved N64, Gamecube, Wii games for them. Played one Zelda on the Wii and disliked it so never even finished it.

Diablo 3, MGS, Final Fantasy games (I love rpgs and JRPGs but never got into this). Tbh, pretty much anything pre 2000 that hasn't been remade, and even several years after that unless it was a sports game or a popularish game on the Playstation, I probably missed it. I'd say it wasn't until 2005 that I got properly into gaming, both PC and console, and there's only so much time to go back and play some of the older games whilst still playing new ones.

Games that are considered classics that I haven't finished :

Final Fantasy VII - To be honest, I don't think I've finished any of the final fantasy series.

Any 'seminal' pc game released since 1995. ( Stopped gaming on PC's around then )

The Witcher 3 - Really tried with this one but I just don't see what everyone else does. I don't like the combat or even traversing the world. Weird weightlessness to everything that just didn't sit right with me.

    Chrono Trigger.

Symphony of the Night ( I've gotten close to beating it in the past but just stopped playing for some reason ). I'm going to go back to it though because it is a great game.

Any of the Mega Man games.

Chrono Trigger is only 20 hours long. Shame on all of you.

Half Life 1 or 2. I've been a PC gamer since the 90's, and I've owned copies of both of these games for many, many years. I've played the first 30 minutes or so of both and never bothered to play more.

I think it's some kind of cardinal sin for a PC gamer.

I've never finished the Baldur's Gate series, have gotten to the final boss in Throne of Bhall but never got over the line.

First they came for the socialists...

Chrono Trigger - I've started it a few times, and gotten maybe 10 hours in, but it was always on an emulator - if it got a proper Switch re-release, I'd probably get through it.

Diablo 2 is another one, but I have finished the third one so I'm exempt from that shame :D

Portal is another one - got close to the end, but then Portal 2 came out, and that was more fun. :)

Monkey Island. I've actually finished the first and third, as well as the fourth, but the most critically acclaimed second one never fell across my radar. The links of Day of the Tentacle, Maniac Mansion, Grim Fandango fall in here too.

Donkey Kong Country - all of them. Just can't stick with them. Not necessarily difficulty, just boredom.

    Shenmue. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Metroid Prime (the whole lot) - I have no excuses here.

Okami (I have started the Switch version, but it's been stalled a few weeks now)

Braid - just fell out of love with it, and I read the twist so I didn't bother after that.

LittleBigPlanet - falls into the Minecraft effect - I don't care about building worlds.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - I didn't have a Wii at the time.

Oh yeah never played a single second of any Legend of Zelda or Metroid game. Barely even played any Mario until about 10 years ago, as all bar one of my friends/cousins were always Mega-Drive to Playstations. So I'd played a little bit of Mario up in house once or twice, but didn't properly play them until early 20's with an emulator on PC, then one or two of the DS games when I got a DS. Was always a Sonic kid, then onto Crash Bandicoot.

The newest one is an absolute gem. Was never a huge fan of the originals except for thinking they looked great at the time

I've never played any of the Final Fantasy series, I'm just not a fantasy game fan. I've tried to play a couple of the Dragons Age series but I just can't get into the world. I love Bioware games (Mass Effect and the KOTOR games are some of my favourite games ever) but the fantasy world element just leaves me cold.

Only just played it for the first time this year. Only takes 2-3 hours to finish. One of the pros for playing it was that I knew I'd be able to complete it.

Don't know if I'd define final fantasy games as fantasy games.
I think the last one that had a fantasy type setting was 9 and before that 6.
Still they are an acquired taste. Personally I haven't played any since Final Fantasy X.

Another one that I own and haven't gotten round to is The Last Of Us

  • Final Fantasy 8
Tried to complete it three times

    Could never get into it

Ugh that final boss. I had a pretty kitted out crew and all maxed up level and still couldn't take him out. Baldurs Gate 2 on the other hand was so easy.

I haven't touched the Final Fantasy series, Diablo series, Zelda, Metroid, Baldur's Gate series.

Played a good bit but got bored of Skyrim and Bioshock. Put about 20 hours into the former. I think I almost finished the latter, but got to a point where I really couldn't be arsed.

Shocking the amount of people saying Zelda and Mario, in terms of pure gameplay there a step about almost every game ever made. Zelda botw been the greatest game ever made.

On my list there's Skyrim, Mass Effect 1&2 and Dead space, I will definitely get through them at some point as I've heard so many great things about them.

All the Metal Gear games. Tried them, hated them. Just couldn’t get into them at all.

Quote a lot myself. Mostly RPGS.

Plenty of classic crpgs like planescape torment, fallout 1 and 2, ultima underworld. Never finished deus ex despite starting it multiple times. The witcher games as well.

For jrpgs there's plenty like secret of mana, ff13 lightning returns, valkyrie profile, tactics ogre, dragon quest 5, digital devil saga 1 and 2. I played but not stuck with them. I've also not played Persona 4 despite being a shin megami tensei fan and owning two copies of the game.

Plenty of others too numerous to mention. Silent bomber, megaman legends 2, loads of ds games. And I've been neglecting indie games. Thank god triple A is so boring so I can do some catching up.

My shame would be the following three

    Final Fantasy IX
    Majoras Mask
    Suikoden

Never beat Super Mario Bros. Been trying the last year or so every so often but hit a brick wall around World 6/7.

People say it's easy but it's balls hard if you never grew up with a NES!

Any of the GTA's with the exception of the original two. I just get bored.

Witcher 3 - loved it for a time, then got tired of traveling vast distances not sure if I was doing a main mission or side quest. I know this can be fixed, but I’m sure I’ll get distracted again.

Skyrim - was having a great time, then got out on the Dawnguard DLC and my game file crashed. Not going back.

    Fallout 4

    Any GTA game

FFXV is the first main Final Fantasy game I haven’t finished.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

FFXV is the first main Final Fantasy game I haven’t finished.

I had it on the PS4 and barely got to Chapter 6. I did however finish the Pocket Edition on the Switch and found the pacing a bit more to my liking.

Metal Gear Solid 3. I've completed most of the games in this series (currently playing MGS5) and I never actually finished MGS3. I played about an hour of it on the PS2 and bought the collection for the PS3 but still haven't touched it.

Fallout New Vegas. I prefered this much more than Fallout 3 but for some reason I never finished it.

Skyrim. Never even owned a copy or thought about buying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

Still haven't finished the last B&W boss of The Witcher 3 and I loved that game.
I've left it too long now so I'm a complete noob at combat so it's like I'm level 1 again :(

    Half-life 1/2

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

I never had a Wii; never played anything on it outside of Wii Sports at a friends once which left no real impression on me.
I never finished a GTA game until V. Always got stuck on certain later missions in San Andreas and Vice City; got bored playing IV as it suffered in certain missions without a checkpoint system.
Most of the NES library on Switch I never beat and have zero interest in ever attempting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I won't say i'm embarrassed to have not played, but there are some 'classics' which I've never played.

Never understood the pull of Sonic. Compared to Mario, it's extremely meh. Felt like all you had to do was hold right and jump every now and again. I know it's not that simple, but that's what it felt like to me, so never played the majority of Sonic games, and the ones I did play, I gave up out of boredom after 20 minutes or so.

Zelda, I think I would like them, but never played one.

Any Final Fantasy due to the fighting system.

I remember having The Orange Box on PS3. I loved Portal. I loved Team Fortress 2.

Could not get more than half an hour into Half-Life 2. Just didn't click with me at all. The Orange Box was well worth the money for the hours I put into TF2 alone never mind how great Portal was, but HL2 just didn't interest me at all.

There's lot's of games I've given up on for which I feel no shame. Fallout 4 springs to mind. I'm really unhappy with myself I never finished Doom.
I never finished GOW, think I'll need to restart it to get back into it.

For HL1 I was playing it on an underspecced PC at a horribly slow frame rate, so I gave up.

HL2 just never clicked for me.

I’m starting to play through my backlog at the moment in between ranking up in blops4.

Currently I’m playing through the original Red Dead Redemption as I got the goty edition for €15 in Argos on 360 ages ago and there’s a lot of hype about the new one.

Don’t get me wrong it’s good but I don’t know if it deserves all the praise it gets tbh. It’s not blowing me away or anything.

Loads of other “classics” I need to play. Zelda a link to the past springs to mind but way too many others to list. Lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 552 ✭✭✭Stylesclash07

I have never played any of the Kingdom Hearts games. I just bought the PS4 remaster so once Red Dead is finished I’ll move onto them. Also never played any of the yakuza games either but after Yakuza Kwami was giving on PS+ I bought 0 to start with. My backlog is way to big.

My advice is to consider living in ignorance as Kingdom hearts is really not good.

I thought Half Life was an amazing game at the time it was released....there was nothing quite like it. Half Life 2 though, I just could never get into it, I've started to play it so many times but I just didn't find it compelling or satisfying to play at all.

Probably the most legendary game I just couldn't get through, and I say that as a major FPS fan.

Also have never been able to finish any of the GTA games, I just get bored after a time - not that I don't like open-world games, I'm a sucker for Fallout or Skyrim, but GTA is just something that feels like tough work to me for whatever reason.

No point mentioning games in genres you'd never play to begin with really.

Man you’re such a kill joy. Lol.

I haven’t played them either but with a couple of young kids I’d rather have that on the telly than other games because at least it’s somewhat cartoony even if there is fighting etc in it. Feels a little more child friendly but with RPG elements. Yay.
