That's different. If you are someone who is passionate about the poor and the oppressed, you can do whatever the Jaysus you want. Once you get someone else to pony up for it. Obviously.

It was Geneva but I suppose Zurich is easier to rhyme.

He stayed in a hotel where rooms can cost up to €3k a night, no-one has put up any proof that that was what was paid. Also the rumour was put about by that spoofer Craughwell.

    Was the allegation denied?

But the proof (either way) isn't getting released until after the election.

    Couldn't make this shyte up.

That you didn't pursue that career in rap is one of hip hop's greatest losses.

And even if it did cost €3k, no-one has any proof that Higgins had any role in choosing the hotel.

    You are full of sh1te.
As pointed out the 3k room wasn't denied. MDH denied everything else , so it's fair to save it's true.

Craughwell is far from a spoofer, he is a patriot .
If it wasn't for him, the fraud of Micheal D would have been shoehorned unopposed into a 2nd term.
He stood up and said he would challenge Micheal D if there wasn't another candidate to ensure the country saw democracy in action.

If you like micheal d or Casey or whoever ....you gotta thank Craughwell for the entertainment we've had.

Funnily enough I heard Fergus Finlay on the radio the other day talking about the time Dick Spring stayed in the Waldoff Astoria and got into bother over it.

According to FF the Ambassador in US at the time heard that Bill Clinton was staying there and thought he was doing a great job by booking DS in where he could do a bit of networking.

I have stayed in hotels where rooms could cost upwards of 3k/night, I paid €300 for my room, by your logic by the mere availability of a 3k room I must have paid that much. Doesn't compute.

Even Craughwell doesn't like the entertainment: https://twitter.com/GCraughwell/status/1054859613525413888 from during the debate on Tuesday

It's funny how you're hugely concerned by the €3k hotel bill, but not by the €20+ million bill for a pointless election, thanks to SF, some dodgy council decisions and the spoofer Craughwell.

It must be tense for him meeting that other scion of the Higgins family socialist dynasty, Michael D Higgins’ daughter Senator Alice Mary Higgins, in the senate. This sort of nepotism is the type of thing Michael D railed against in the past.

I don’t think a young Michael D would vote for the politician he has become.

You're sure that he didn't complain then? You're aware of all the interactions he had with Dept Foreign Affairs about that particular trip somehow?

    Or else you're just spoofing?

What do you expect him to do - walk out in a huff and trapse the streets looking for a bed for the night?

She was elected to the Seanad, how is that nepotism?

Are we so pathetic that we'd expect our president to sleep in some cheap place to save the country money?

He's our president and as such should be able to booked into something other than a hostel.

This type of nitpicking by the other candidates or their followers is a sign of how little they have to offer voters.

Voting tomorrow morning on my way to work. Giving Mickey D and Ni Riada my No 1 and 2 respectively. The others can go jump.

    That's ok.

Doesn't change much just a detail.

I'd have my doubts myself never having paid out 3k for the lie down.
I think the best thing would be to find out exactly what was going on and why they booked such an expensive hotel.
Perhaps put a cap in place for future bookings.
At the same time its just a sideshow in the middle of an election and wouldn't change my vote one way or the other.

Yes. We should look the other way when it comes to €3k a room hotels and bringing your florist to Oz for a month.
