He's just someone whose saying what he thinks. Is that only a good thing when Peter Casey does it?

I didn't hear Casey being abusive whatsoever. Still doesn't bother me the way he said that it - free speech etc however he is well out of touch with the people of Ireland no doubt do to being being based outside this country and the entire reporting blackout of Caseys progress.
He is running with what he believes is the popular opinion but how wrong is he!

I was that interested in the Presidental Election up until a week or two ago and I'm still not unduly bothered by it really, considering that in real terms The President's function is to basically eat dinners for Ireland.

But, I find it interesting all the same, that people are queuing up on here to profess their support for Peter Casey, a man 99% of you couldn't have picked out of a lineup until about a fortnight ago.

And on the basis of what? A soundbite about travellers? That's all it takes for a lot of you to suddenly give a sht? Name another thing he said up until that point that was worth even a moment of anyone's attention? No-one cared up until then, but because he hit the buzzword bingo jackpot, suddenly the nuthouse that is After Hours is inundated with Caseyites. Pretty craven stuff if you ask me, you are all very easily swayed. And I'm willing to bet, that despite all the bluster that Casey is going to shock us all, most of you probably won't be bothered your arses voting. Too much effort, easier to talk crap on the Internet.

Hillarious isn't it that an entitled millionaire who probably hasn't met a Traveller in 20 years feels it's ok to denegrate them whilst knowing that if he's elected president he'll have to attend ceremonies and functions for Pavee Point and The Irish Traveller Movement as part of his role!

I know Trump showed the way to the lowest common denominator is to find somebody different (Mexicans for example) dehumanise them (stealing our jobs etc) and then basically let social media do the rest for you but it is quite eye opeing the amount of people that can be sucked in by this stuff and attempt to legitimise it as well.

Ye can dress up it any way ye like after the facts, but if Casey hadn't flew a few kites about travellers there wouldn't be much else for people to latch onto.

Just to be clear, he was asked a question for a podcast, and answered it honestly, he didn't volunteer the info without being asked.

The people who asked for his opinion tryedto use it against him to further their own agendas, and it looked to have backfired.

Casey didn't knowhow his message was going to be portrayed I'd imagine.

Let me guess, you would have been in favour of him lying rather than rocking the apple cart yeah?

Not really. He gave his opinion, I don't really have a problem with that.

It's more just the people who now see him as some sort of political saviour, based on very little.

You initially said he flew a few kites.

    Now he gave his.opinion.

It's almost....... almost like he answered a question asked of him.....

I ask you again, would you prefer he lied when giving his answer?

Personally I’ll support him to send a message to our politicians (all parties) so that maybe, just maybe those who work hard and are sick of funding a bloated welfare entitlement class will receive a political voice. Leo started the conversation but conveniently lost his voice somewhere along the way.

It’s also refreshing for someone to raise the traveller issue without fear of the (as subsequently seen) outraged mob accusations of hate, racism etc.

Call it a protest vote if you want but in fairness I’ve respect for Casey for opening the long overdue debate.

    Well said.
The waste that went on during Hobbit years was ridiculous. He sent two Mercs back because he couldn't see out the back passenger windows ffs!

Good, so your now annoyed that he gave an answer to a question asked of him, have I got this right?

If so, that's a million miles away from kite flying to gauge public opinion.

I'm not annoyed at Peter Casey as such, he's entitled to express his opinion. You seem convinced that I want to him silenced or something, when I've never said anything like that.

I just find the sudden rebrand of him around here as someone who just deals exclusively in home truthes and a harbinger of a new accountable Ireland as another case of people talking nonsense.

But, please, ask me another hypothetical question about supposed opinions I surely must hold...

That is a joke right ? I find that hard to believe even in this banana republic ! Could they not have given him a nice thick phone book from the aras?!

you think that’s why trump was elected ?! I think citizens were sick of the same lack of action and pc bull**** from the the same old politicians. Decades of it. I’ve hit that point! I’ll rip up my ballot at the next general election or give renua a 1 and ff a 2. I don’t ever want to see that snake , the embodiment of all talk no action varadkar leading this country! I swore I’d never vote ff again , but they are a lesser evil than varadkar snd that’s saying something !

When Casey wins I'll be taking 1,100 from Betfair.

What will you do with your winnings?

If you're giving Renua your first preference vote, under it's current leadership, you're the dictionary definition of a spanner.

    I don't believe that for a minute.

Michael D is getting my vote tomorrow but if you can link me to a reliable source for this, he's lost my vote.

Go on, enlighten me (preferably with actual evidence) as to how the president "sent back" the cars which are not of his ownership?

he has no good ideas but as I said the role of President is only ceremonial so it's a great way of kicking the government up the hole without having any problems (as PC has no real power)

plus his salary will be given to county council's

So you want to put someone in the Aras who can't solve any problems and give more money to people who won't solve them.

This despite the fact that gardai advised the Aras in writing over a year ago that the President's car, with nearly 300,000km on its odometer, was "no longer fit for purpose" and needed to be replaced as a matter of urgency.

"There is no question that the President made any demand for a new car. He's quite happy to accept whatever model the gardai believe to be suitable," the source added

Notwithstanding the clear urgency of the situation, the Sunday Independent understands from an informed source that the process of finding a permanent replacement car for the President has yet to be concluded.

The source denied claims that Mr Higgins had made any demands for a 'new' car, saying that the matter was "being driven, no pun intended, by gardai"

because they were pertinent to the claim being made

one thing that did stand out to me though:

The issue of the President's transport has been the subject of some controversy in recent days following the publication of a report which suggested that while he had taken delivery of a brand new Mercedes, he had sent it back with a demand that it be replaced with a "superior model" worth some €40,000 more.
