That happens right across the welfare state, in settled communities as well.

What Casey did was target a minority community and only days later started on about the welfare state.

His action was despicable and hopefully Ireland will tell him that at the poll. 'Frustration', should not be exploited in that way.

That's your interpretation. Many don't see it that way, many have the view that he made a legitimate observation on an area that has been made taboo by political correctness and needs to be discussed. People are weary of the double standards, feigned outrage and perpetual victimhood, including (and this might burst your liberal ecco chamber bubble) some travelers, who find it patronizing.

I'd say 20 years and a day. Does that make me more hardcore than you? am I winning?

You do realise that we have prison sentences for this already? And the president has absolutely nothing to do with those?

I don't care for the office of president, I'm only commenting on peter Casey bringing such crimes virtually always commited by tinkers to the fore, yes I am aware that we have sentences for said crimes but they are much lower than my suggestion of minimum 20 years. I know these last 7 or 8 days have been very tough for the tinker apologists but I'm sure you'll move on to some other worthy cause. Did I offend you snowflake

I don't know any travellers or tinkers as you call them but is your argument that all crime is committed by travellers? Also you think Peter Casey is your saviour?
You may want to get a grip on reality.
I do agree that anyone that does those crimes you mentioned deserves over 20 years or life in jail though.

Wtf has happened to this site? Used to be that level headed people spoke here, now it’s an echo chamber of rants & crap.

Also, even though the position’s aren’t paralleled, how can you excuse a ‘protest vote’ for Peter ‘Trump-lite’ Casey when you see what such ‘protest votes’ achieved in the US?

Maybe protest voting is a convenient excuse for actually wanting to vote for a narcissistic crapbucket.

Cause I'm mad as well and not going to take it anymore. :)

So basically Higgins is unbeatable, in the opinion of the people whose livelihood depends on getting it right

He is unbeatable, despite not turning up for two debates and most people being unable to point out any actual achievement of his in office

Most will vote for him as he is "in the job". When was the last time an incumbent stood and didn't win?

It would probably be most cost efficient to just make it a 14 year term and forget about the middle election, such is the lack of relevance the role has and the amount general Ireland care about who is our president

    You don’t know any travelers???

    Good grief!! Lucky you.

Fact is Peter has tapped into a subject many of the hard working classes of Ireland feel strongly about. He’s also touched a nerve with the victims of crimes perpetrated by travelers. He is unlikely to win on Friday (but he just might) but if he polls we’ll (comes second or third) a lovely strong and firm message will have been sent as to how many of us really feel.

I really believe some idiots are fearful that a good turnout for Casey will cause many to implode with rage that their cozy worldview has been challenged. That alone makes voting for him worthwhile.

    VOTE PETER CASEY NO. 1.

Incumbents lose their seats in every general and local elections. It's not unusual at all, when you have alternative candidates that aren't utter dicks.

And as he said himself, Higgins has been turning up since 1969.

At a presidential election I meant

So is turning up a reason to vote for someone? Turning up to a well paid profession. What about achievements in his time in office? A socialist president has overseen ”record homelessness"

It's not even a dig, it's a why bother. Irish people don't like, or care enough to change presidents. Has anyone ever actually been voted out of the office of president in this country?

Why bother, just make it max 7 years, or just go the full 14

An incumbent president has only been challenged once before (DeValera) and he almost did lose.

What can any of them do? About anything? What has Higgins done to generate 70% polling apart from being the incumbent.

What are we actually voting for? Someone to shake hands it seems, something any official could do, and live in a big house on a large salary.

When does the moratorium black out begin, because I'm beginning to smell a rat ref the complete and utter failure of any polling stats being released post 16th of Oct.

Would it be too cynical of me to perhaps suspect that Casey is polling a hell of a lot better than the 2% they had claimed (and keep regurgitating as "news" ever since), the media and the establishment are afraid of their shyte that Casey's votes will get momentum, and so - and with the embargo rapidly approaching, the polling numbers of the 16th is what we'll be left with?

If the social media platforms, radio text in programmes, and general consensus amongst people i talk with (during my daily work), are anything to go by....Casey has a serious amount of support out there.

Not to mention, the bookies odds.....

    I smell a rat.

I've been told by my uncle in the know that Casey is polling extremely well.

Fine Gael have a post on Facebook with a lot of tds singing the praise of MDH in one sentence. Pathetic

You're posting in a poll thread. Is it not recent enough for you?

Casey will receive more votes than all the other candidates combined, no need for a second round.

To be fair there's been a load of crap on this thread. We even had idiots claiming that higgins is having an affair.

I'm voting for Casey, but if Michael D is having an affair at 77 I might just change my mind and vote for him.
When I'm 77 I just pray to god I still have enough strength and hand eye co-ordination to have a **** never mind an affair!

Is Peter Casey actually gonna win this election?? He has gone from rank 300/1 outsider to now the 16/1 second favourite behind MDH. Granted MDH is still the odds on favourite at 1/50 but am I missing something completely. How is Casey now 16/1??

(Sorry I am just raging because I was thinking of sticking a fiver on Casey at 300/1 for the craic but I didn't do it so I can't believe my eyes this morning to see he is now the second favourite with Paddy Power)

This poor man shot dead in cork.a man has been arrested. Decent chance it was by a traveller! The scum media wouldn’t release that until after the election though. These idiots voting mdh are responsible for the cesspit this nation is becoming!

YEs, but the bookies still have him as a big outsider, just like the others.

I'm not much of a gambler but there was a post earlier with odds of 10/11 w/o MDH.

Best I can find currently is 4/6. Is there anything better out there?

It seems to be about a local dispute with a man in his sixties after being arrested. It doesn't sound like travellers to me but I'll water for the facts before deciding to be outraged.

How was voting for MDH in a ceremonial role turning the country into a cesspit and how will voting in Peter Casey change that?

Why is the poll on this thread so completely out of kilter with national polls, media predictions etc.

Are Boards.ie members a complete anamoly?
