Got nothing. What’s the point in paying contributions all these years if this is how we’re treated. Told to go CWO only to be told no because we work! Ridiculous.

Agreed, I just hope seriously ill people that live on their own do have someone to help pay the bills and buy food. They do not need the stress of all this which has been going on since July, outrageous!

Also, some people previously unemployed are entitled to illness benefit as they had paid enough contributions when they worked.

Oh yes, of course, if I came across as sounding like I had any issues with people not working for whatever reason that’s really not what I meant at all.

From my own perspective I’ve felt a little guilty receiving illness benefit, as if I’m not entitled to it, but I’m finally thinking enough is enough, we all contribute in our own ways.

Jesus this a catastrophe of epic proportions. In 13 years I’ve never seen such an almighty cock up.Regina Doherty needs a good kick in the hole over this. I’ve no idea how she’s getting away with it.

I've fired emails to a local TD, the Taoiseach and the Minister this morning.
My TD and the Taoiseach's office both replied, requested further info and confirmed they would forward the query to Regina...
Regina's office has yet to even acknowledge the original email!

I have a feeling that Ms Doherty knows absolutely nothing about any SW cock up.

I’d say it’s more likely she doesn’t give a hoot, I had to sallow my pride and approach SVP so I can feed my 6 year and 4 month old this week after 4 weeks of nothing, behind on rent, electricity etc, I’m not sure how long more I can cope with this continuing, the stress they are causing is farcical

I completely understand the predicament you are in. Only for SVP I would be in a worse place. Make sure you explain to them the situation you are in, tell them about all the bills you are unable to pay. I was very apprehensive and a little proud too but was assured they are not there to judge. They gave me money to pay gas and electricity bill, they gave me vouchers for Dunnes and since they visited I have been getting a weekly food hamper. If i wasnt receiving this at the moment I wouldnt be able to feed my kids. Good luck and chin up.

Funnily enough, that's the local TD I had a near immediate reply from this morning!

Him and his ilk would need to be highlighting this on national media and not twittering to their followers about their concern. This is a three month old national issue that has the potential to result in the death of citizens. What do I find on Six One tonight - two blowhards muttering about blasphemy and some survey saying smoking is bad for you.

I got another reply from welfare on Twitter. They said they'd get the CWO to get in touch with me. Why? My issue isn't with her. And the last time I got a payment from her my claim was cut off for a month, so thanks but no thanks. I'd rather you just sorted my claim out.

No payment again this week. Sent a tweet on Monday, no reply. Filled in the enquiry form online, no reply. Maybe I can eat the letter they sent out.

Those letters were another wasted resource! Directing us to call a certain number or email the section. We have all tried and still to no avail!

I’ve still been paid nothing, despite sending in a new four week cert last week cover myself, I even wrote a letter and added it into the envelope, as I knew someone would have to read it.

I did receive a partial payment last Thursday but when I spoke to the guy on the 071 number on Friday he said that payment was actually issued on the 10th oct, and couldn’t understand when I said I only received it on the 17th.

The whole thing is a mess, he said illness benefit issued a blanket cert to everybody on the 10th thinking it would do some good, but it made things worse. How could it do some good, it cancelled everyone’s previous certs whether they’re on 1 week or 6 monthly certs.

I’m so doped up on painkillers for my illness there’s nothing more I can do at this point, no more letters, emails or spending half the day on hold only to be cut off. I’m done.

On the phone again now , in for an hour's wait at least , why did they have to change form my doctors office say there a nightmare on there end too as they now have no easy to access records of what they have given out
Joke of a department and it's not the staffs fault this goes right up the scale to the top management

Still not a cent received here either - but I did get my LPT bill this morning.. :(
Once my mortgage is paid tomorrow that's me wiped out.

I cant help but feel sorry for the people on the phone, as you said this goes way up to the top. I fired off emails to a few TDs there, pointless but will wait with bated breath to see if any of them reply.

Anyone know how SVP work? Thinking of contacting them. Not sure I want strangers going through my finances though. What would I need to give them access to?

They do not require anything. They are a great set of ears for listening also

Because they’re effectively distributing donations made by the public they have to do a little bit of digging to make sure that your genuine but you’ll understand that.
Here, you ring a central office, they take some details off you and then someone calls to see you at home.

I’ve filled in a form on the SVP website and got an email saying someone will come out to the house to talk to me. My nearest office is about an hours drive away so it’s great they’ll come to me. I have no problem with showing them my accounts or anything, I just wouldn’t want them questioning why I put such and such on my credit card when I’m skint. I didn’t know my income would completely disappear. I’ve been on illness for about 18 months now so any savings are long gone.

I live in a moderne 4 bed detached house that has very nice furnishings etc so i was very apprehensive about them coming out. I pointed it out to them and they assured they are not there to judge

That’s great to know. I’m living at home with my parents but they’re pensioners so we’re all struggling to get by at the moment.

    1hr 7mins

    cut off again

this is gone beyond a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,006 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I have just contacted my local TD about the issue, explained by personal situation and how nobody can get any information. He has responded very quick and said he has already helped people with this, hopefully this will all be sorted soon. If everybody tries to contact their local TD it might start to cause a stir, the more pressure on the department the better!
