An awful lot of morons wrongly accusing Peter Casey of being racist and a large number of morons on this site idiotically accusing their fellow posters of being racist for supporting him.

Equally there are a number of posters insinuating that anyone voting for Casey is intellectually challenged somehow.

I’m giving voting No. 1 for Peter because he has talked about an issue that resonates with me. An issue that certain sections of Irish Society would prefer remain taboo.

He has highlighted the criminal, anti-social, “culture” of a sizable, protected portion of our society. One which the hard-working, working classes of Ireland are expected to fund yet not question or object. Casey has opened up the conversation.

Most people understand that the role of President is largely ceremonial and without any power but the fact that Casey was polling at less than 2% before he actually stated some facts, only to be accused of being a racist by the out of touch media and several public figures, means that should he now poll well (hopefully over 20% - possible even better) a very strong message will have been sent.

None of the others are saying anything worthwhile to persuade me to give them my vote. He has!!

I am starting to feel that a number of posters and their fellow cretins in the media are beginning to really worry that Peter Casey is going to do really well on Friday and that just does not chime whit their deluded view of the world they think they live in.

Away with your common sense! We'll have no common sense here!!!!! :D:D:D

Casey's getting my #1 vote on Friday.

It really is hilarious. What do these people think the president of Ireland actually does?

If they really want to make a point with their votes they would do well to wait for the next General Election.

Otherwise all they’re doing is punishing Michael D for things outside his control.

    Punishing him lololol

Will he have to pop down the council and register himself homeless or something?

    He's already a millionaire socialist.

He can most likely still enjoy a life of riches, just not via the taxpayers.

Voting him out the presidency because you dislike travellers and their demands or because you think the social welfare needs an overhaul and you believe nothing is being done about either is effectively let him take the fall for things he can’t control.

Especially if you are determined to vote in someone else whom you’ve fooled yourself into thinking can do something about it.

Look I agree with Peter Casey’s statements as much as anyone but voting him into the presidency solely on them is just silly.

Time is up for Ireland's oldest student. There seems to be very little radio coverage of the election as the vast majority of texts they are receiving are in Casey's favour..

    Peter Casey No. 1!!

Michael D damaged himself significantly on the Pat Kenny debate. He struck me as arrogant, and incredulous that these people had the temerity to ask questions, a bit out of touch. He seemed surprised and shocked at some of the questions, that had been in the media preceding (other than the halting site objection jibe).

If casey hadnt sounded off. I'd still have voted for him. Not now though

(Someone said earlier Gavin Duffy hasnt really put a foot wrong. He hasnt either, and even comes accross "presedential". But no.)

We'll still be paying for those dogs long after Michael has departed for the great Aras in the sky.

100% agreed. That is exactly why I am saying that polls done by the media have Casey way down in order to try and influence the public into thinking that one must be mad to vote for someone as 'racist' as Peter Casey.

Actually....has anyone checked whether or not Peter Casey has any dogs or other pets?

    No. Read it again.

I said "a number of posters and their fellow cretins..." have a deluded view.

Same old misinterpreting of the point.

To reiterate, very, very few voters believe the role of the president is anything other than ceremonial. The people voting for Peter Casey are not racist or stupid.

The reasons for those of us giving him our No. 1 have been well documented here. Choose to ignore that all you wish.

It'll be some laugh to see the reaction when Casey polls well on Friday.

    VOTE PETER CASEY NO. 1.

    Yes.

I often think that these people ignore reality and the truth.

It doesn't fit with their ideology.

I am strongly against tax evasion / tax avoidance / excessive income inequality / lack of houses, and socialists should target these issues.

Yet they spend too much time defending criminals / illegal immigrants, and on identity politics.

Still no 'official' Ipsos poll published as of today?

Maybe they have the 'fear', or are keeping the results under wraps.

Normally in elections in this country, or referenda, we are nearly hit with a new poll every day.

    Seems strange this time round.

Totally untrue unless you mean the meaningless text/phone in or online polls. Nothing strange at all

Not really. Only contentious issues or general elections are polled heavily.

This was widely considered to be a dead rubber so the lack of polls isn't surprising. I doubt there's even an exit poll planned

Buzz.ie are from the same media groupings as Fake News INM

    They write for Higgins

    Michael D. Higgins

The four pillars of the current office-holders campaign are Equal and Together, Strong and Sustainable Communities, Sharing History & Shaping the Future, and Ireland's Voice Matters.

His focus in the debates that have taken place so far this campaign has been on his career of activism.

The main criticism has been about his spending while President.

    And for Peter Casey
Peter Casey has been in trouble over comments on the Traveller community, Michael D's dogs and golf balls.

He suspended his campaign briefly last weekend.

Tell me the media are not conspiring for a MDH win?

But how does one really know the national average? I mean these Red C Polls for example are a load of codswallop. They are tools used to influence the public to vote a certain way. In Britain there was no hope of Brexit winning if we were to rely on their polls, there was also no hope of Trump winning according to their polls. Now, I do not think Casey is going to win by any means but I would be willing to bet that he is far more than 2% that the national polls are trying to lead one to think.

I would suggest you a havent a clue what you are talking about. The Brexit polls were mostly within the margin of error and in fact up to a week befote voting were showing Leave winning, and polling in the US Election correctly forecast Clitnon winning a majority of the popular vote

It's a bit conspiracy theoryish to think that. A stunning turnaround in the race would drive a huge amount of traffic to the publisher, and that's what the poll is for, to make money for the publisher.

Is there an actual poll due out today or what?

The polls generally ingonred the pop vote question as it's largely irrelevant due to their system. Instead focused on who'd likely be the next POTUS, Clinton had the lead in this from the getgo, not once did Trump have better chance or odds. In fact he was 10/1 even as the votes were getting counted!

Brexit was closer, but leave never had the lead in any of the major polls (for longer than a few days). The bookies also never once had leave with a better chance than remain.

Yes indeed, 2% vs 69% is such a tight margin - could really go either way.

    This is completely wrong.

National polls in the states always focus on the popular vote. To get a good estimate on the Electoral College vote, you'd need a statistically valid sample in every individual state, maybe 50,000 people. A national poll of the popular vote only requires 1000 people or so.

It takes maybe 8-10,000 calls to get 1000 responses, an Electoral College poll of 50,000 people would take a half million calls. No-one is paying for that.

Well i accept that and i kinda see your point but there were national pop vote polls every day and they were fairly close to the pop vote result, certainly within the margin of error. So 'the polls' as such were not that far off which was my point

Have you been living under a rock? The poll is completely outdated and from before Casey made any headlines at all. There has been a clear shift in his direction since then if you'd paid any attention whatsoever.
