Would have thought the US was the route to get back up the rankings, much better world ranking point tournaments over there

Better fields too though, so harder to get those higher points?

They are bigger points because of the better fields. The ranking points available for a tournament are based on the ranking of the players in the field

If you are in the play offs yes but in Europe you have British masters, Dunhill, Turkish Open, Nedbank and Dubai which will all have big ranking points

All them events only pulled in mid 30 to 44 bar Dubai which was 50. While US playoffs was 60 and 3 in 70's

    Huge difference in points.

UK in October isn't going to be a big crowd puller.

China, Turkey, South Africa, Dubai isn't the most appealing 4 weeks travel in a row.

    At most they'll play 3

Come mid Feb European tour going to be a quiet place for high ranking players until mid June so less ranking points

Yeah I know, but its much harder to get those points *because* of the better field.

So you have to arguably play better to get points but conversely on a week where you do play well, you will get more points on the US tour.

So maybe a streaky player should go US and a steady eddie should stay Euro...

But he’s not in the play offs so it’s a non runner

The events in America after the play offs will be similar if not lower rankings than those in Europe

Very good opening round in Portugal. 7 under and had 2 bogies on par 5’s.

Really fancy him this week after starting to get some form towards the end of the US season.

A crazy round currently on the go for Shane today.

    -4 thru 3 + 1 thru 13 then a hole in 1 on 14

The European Tour website is currently showing him as tied 3rd after 8 holes of his final round. Was there play after the weather interruption that hasn't been updated?

So it's tied 3rd, 4 shots behind Garcia, with 10 holes to go. Is that correct?

Is this going to be on Sky tomorrow?

    Definitely

They've done every other Monday finish to this point and Valderrama is a pretty big one especially as it decides which players get their cards for next year. Top 116

No coverage at the moment is there?

Birdie on 10 has him 3 behind Garcia now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,073 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

No sign on Sky, damn them anyway. Only 2 behind now.

Shane is now just 2 behind after 11 holes.

No tv coverage and the european tour leaderboard also seems to be broken.
It is showing Sergio on 10 holes but their blog just posted about his drive on the 13th hole

EDIT: Their leaderboard has finally caught up

Bogey on 13 for Garcia and his lead over Lowry is down to 1 shot

Lowry putting the squeeze on now has the momentum.

Going on the betting in running. Looks like Shane could be in a spot of bother. After going from about a 3/1 shot to 10/1+

*Actually looks to be because Sergio birdied 14
**And a double from Shane at 15.... :( That looks to be that. Hopefully he can hang on for solo 2nd

Shane rounded off with a birdie to nab solo second. Well done big man.

At least he looks set for solo 2nd with the birdie at the last.
Great week considering the overall form this year. Even if the field was woeful.

Hopefully this will give him some confidence and he takes the positives out of it. No point kicking himself over the double bogey. He had to take risks in chasing.
