He could be surprisingly good, especially at the breakdown. We have to see more of Dalton/Montgomery/Regan now? Treadwell, after some initial promise, has proven to be a dud.

Caleb Montgomery always seems fairly prominent in the match reports for the As. Is a back row or a second row...or both?

Marcus Rea seems to be another who is doing well, although I think he is purely a back row.

With the obvious proviso of "how much can you really tell from pre-season games", thought Montgomery looked handy, albeit in back row.

Didn't he impress is pre season last year as well?

It will be interesting to see if any of these A players get a run during November.

How do you upload a photo?
Use the manage attachments button below the post text box and select your photo in the pop up box. When you close that you'll see the photo listed under the manage attachments button and you can right click and copy the location to post it using the image tool in the toolbar.

Agreed, thought the same. Had a bit of dog about him, not sure he's big/heavy enough for the row. But did look very athletic for a blindside. As you said looked good in pre-season last two seasons.

Thought some of you might fancy seeing some of these schools in action.  Some cracking match ups plus plenty of local talent on display.

Should be more of these tournaments. A few tournaments like this held annually would be good. Would give a lot more schools good competitions to aim for. Too much focus on cup and this even held later in year would be another potential competition to win.

Cave is filling in for Andy Goode on new episode of The Rugby Pod and Best is on later as a guest.

Cave was really good on The Left Wing so I'm looking forward to this. If only there was some way to mute Jim Hamilton.

I listened to it earlier and he's very good on it...
I don't mind big Jim, he doesn't take himself too seriously.

Does anyone know when Rob Lyttle is due back?

That 15 should be able to put pressure on Racing in parts and keep things respectable, but when the benches come on it's going to get ugly.

Needless to say an away win would probably end up being one of the performances of the tournament. A lbp would be a massive result going into the double header.

I think it's likely however that Racing will run out comfortable enough winners unfortunately.

    Treadwell over O'Connor is odd.

If Treadwell just threw his body about a bit.more he could be a very good player. He also needs to improve his hands.

    Anyway 22/23 are IQ.

14/23 have come through (or are coming through) the Academy.

I make it 10/23 players are under the age of 25, although mainly on the bench.

This is why I am frustrated with him so much. If he was just useless it'd be one thing, but the guy is actually enormous and totally incapable of using his size to any sort of advantage.

He should be running over the top of people in contact and melting players out of rucks, but he usually gets stopped dead and is ineffective in general.

I don't really know how you fix that. How do you coach a player to throw their weight around?

I don't know that you can fix it. That edge can't really be coached. Maybe he needs to be blindfolded and dumped in the middle of West Belfast and told to find his own way home...that might harden him up...

I read elsewhere people saying Adam McBurney needs to calm down etc etc...does he feck...he has the talent, but his also has that edge...sure it might cost the odd card, but it's better than being soft as s**** when you have pretty much everything else in your locker.

Rodney Ah You is the man you want to dump in the middle of West Belfast on is own, you want to harden Treadwell up, not make him disappear.....
