They are only the messengers, who unfortunately always get the blame.

They should have proper training, both on products and how to use the telephone. I was hung up on twice and when I spoke to a rep, they had no idea how to resolve the issue, totally useless at all levels to be honest..

So what "compensation" are you BB customers looking for on Eir?

A whopping 2 - 4 euro off your next bill?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,129 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Compensation, if any, would not be worth the effort.

If Eir had any sense, they would do this:

    - email all customers with an apology (properly!)
    - give a summary of what happened
    - explain what you will do to prevent it happening again
    - discount all bills by €5 for the month, or issue credit to prepay customers

But of course none of this will happen. They won't learn, and there will be future outages. The only way to deal with this is to move your custom elsewhere.

The amount per customer might be small but if all their customers did this, the total bill would be reasonably high. Don't forget that the cost to eir includes the callcentre time talking to each of the affected customers who are ringing to ask for their refund.

The total cost might be enough to make eir have a proper incident response plan - one that involves communicating with their customers, managing their expectations and providing workarounds when they exist. The cost might even encourage them to properly evaluate their DR strategy.

I assume you are talking about the modem admin page?

The admin username and password are usually printed on a label on the back or underside of the device.
With the F2000 I believe the admin password is usually the same as the default wifi password.

This again will depend on the router you are using but the default is to remove the static DNS setting you enabled earlier the router will then receive the setting from Eir on which DNS it should use.

It's an F2000.  So is it just a case of restarting the router and letting it detect the Eir DNS settings?

The best thing to do would to log back into 192.168.1.254 and untick the static dns box that you selected earlier then click save. You will lose connection briefly and it will revert to using the Eir DNS, no restart is required.

No worries iceage , happy to help. BTW there is no real downside to using an alternative DNS and in some cases it can even slightly speedup browsing but generally the difference is fractions of a second. I guess the only thing is how much do you trust that company. I'm happy enough to recommend Google as they know everything already :P

That depends on if their internet is complacently down by coincidence and it's unrelated to this topic.

The DNS should be back for everyone at this stage but perhaps some limited areas are still experiencing problems.

In this case I would recommend power cycling the router. I have a few other things that can be checked if that does resolve it.

Why are the EIR representives on here not getting in contact with cutomers?

Why are they ignoring these Threads?

Virgin or SKY would not ignore the threads.

they are an absolute joke of a company EIR.

Simple answer is Eir made a mistake outsourcing customer service and are now seriously understaffed while they try to sort that out.
Staff on here are probably overworked and would lose their job for speaking out about it publicly.

I'd advise people to switch provider if they can.

It's not the customers service fault my understanding is they are working with a skeleton crew while they move from an outsourced copy to taking all staff back in house again.
However if someone on here can post a solution in less then 5 minutes then perhaps they could have designated one member of staff to make an announcement over social media for people who do not use boards.

Yeah i mean like, some people are still without internet since Saturday afternoon. When people ring up to complain, no one answers the phone.I'd say that you wouldn't be posting that, if you were still one of the unlucky few without a service, and had to put up with customer service like that.:)

True, however for me a dns issue will never prevent me from useing the internet as normal. I'm not aware of any other issues not related to dns.

I have been keeping track of the lack of customer service from Eir. If it wasn't for my contract I'd move asap. As a customer all you can realistically do is vote with your wallet.
However I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people complaining will not switch providers.

My mobile broadband has been terrible for the past 4 weeks. It was perfect for last 2 years but now I have to reboot my huawei b315 at least 10 times a night to watch 2 hours of netflix and when I query Eir, all they say is that there's no problem and its that too many people are on at the same time.

I even queried last Saturday and was told that nothing was wrong as the whole system was collapsing.

They just ignore or lie to customers at this stage.

I swear I'm still having issues on my phone this evening. On 4G and various app messages are coming in batches.

    For me, its still problems.

We can access internet with the Google DNS. Not with the eir one. And for whatever reason our old PC, which is directly connected to the router is unabled to connect at all.

I've a Virgin box for TV. I take it switching to them would be fairly painless.

I’m still without and it does not bother me at all, I know I can fix it but just not bothered. I might get rid of it all together now as I can honestly say I didn’t miss it.

No TV but WiFi and phone working okay, I did factory reset my eir tv box (not the router).

I’m just getting a welcome screen on the tv - can’t get beyond that

“Thank you for choosing eir vision....,.

    .....Network connection -“

    Any ideas?

We are still without internet and our phone line is also not working properly.  I've tried 3 times to get through to Eir via phone, and trying now for a 5th time, and again they have just hung up.  Loosing the will at this stage.

I tried to use the easy fix on 192.168.254, but it won't work, I just get a message saying connection error no internet connect, check cable.

I need to have access to my work emails in the evening, and also, our TV works off internet.

This is what is lighting up on the modem.

Try using a wired connection to allow you to change the DNS settings, as mentioned earlier.
